Saxophone recital

The Bangalore International Centre is presenting a classical Carnatic music recital on saxophone by G Ramanathan on September 7, 6.30 pm. Ramanathan will be accompanied by Pradesh Acharya on the violin and Vadiraj Bhatt on the mridangam.


Ramanathan will be highlighting the songs of great composers like Thyagaraja, Purandara Dasa, Bhadrachala Ramsay, Annamacharya etc.

‘Yuvajanothsava’


MES  Kalavedi is presenting Yuvajanothsava, the annual youth festival by the students of MES Institutions, from September 6 to 8 at New Conference Hall, MES College, Vidyasagara Prof M P L Sastry Road, 15th Cross, Malle­swaram.
 It will be inaugurated on September 6, 4 pm. Shashidhar Kote, a ren­owned singer in semi-classical music, will be present on the occasion.

Light strains


Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira is presenting a special light music programme by Rohini Mohan and team on September 9, 6.30 pm at Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira Concert Hall, Banashankari II Stage.
The programme is being organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture.

‘An Evening of...’

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), High Commission for the DSR of Sri Lanka in India and National Gallery of Modern Art are presenting a musical extravaganza ‘An Evening of Songs’ — a performance by ‘De Lanerolle Brothers’ (Rohan and Ishan), accompanied by Sri Lankan pianist Rohan De Silva — will take place at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Palace Road on September 9, 6.30 pm. ‘Horizon Series’


Under the ‘Horizons Series’, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), in collaboration with Bhar­atiya Vidya Bhavan, will present a kuchipudi dance ensemble by Chennai’s Kuchipudi Art Academy in the City. This is in memory of  Vempati Chinna Saty­am, founder-director of the Academy. The performance will be held on September 8, 6.30 pm at the Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Hindustani tunes

A Hindustani classical concert by Kannada playback singer and Hindustani vocalist H G Chaitra will be held at Yavanika Auditorium, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road on September 7, 6.30 pm. This is being organised by the Indian Council for Cultural
Relations.

‘Great Symphonies on Keyboard’, a musical programme, will be held on September 8, 7 pm at the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore.

It will be presented by Bangalore School of Music faculty member Sheba Kurian and senior students Meera Somasekhar, Ashvin Varadharajan, Vishal N N, Pranav S and Sanjeet Sivakumar. It is directed by Maxwell P J.

The programme will have ‘Symphonies No 4’ by Scarlatti, ‘Concerto for Trumpet’ by Johann F Fasch and ‘Overtures’ by Verdi and Handel.

This will be a treat for all music lovers as great symphonic sounds will fill the
auditorium.

By popular request, the composer and musical ensemble will also perform Indian ragas with full orchestration and maybe a ‘bhangra’ or two, to round-up this special evening that celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the Music School.

Ethnic handlooms

Orissa Arts and Crafts is presenting a display-cum-sale of ethnic handlooms and handicrafts at Prema Chandra Kalyana Mahal from 10 am to 8.30 pm. The exhibition will be on till September 16. Craftsmen from all over the country are participating in this exhibition.

Chittara workshop
An introductory workshop on Chittara painting will be held from September 10 to 14 at Center for Revival of Indigenous Art (CFRIA), 452, 1st Floor, 3rd Cross, Wilson Garden. Chittara is an art practice of an indigenous community called Deevaru, residing at Sagar, Shimoga. Chittara drawings are intricate patterns that represents the auspicious ceremonies and rituals of life symbolised in geometric patterns. For details, call 22235413.      


‘Aadab Manto...’

Atta Galatta, Koramangala will be staging Aadab Manto Saheb on September 8, 6 pm. It is a collage of short stories of renowned writer Saadat Hasan Manto in Hindi and Urdu. It is directed by Kamal Pruthi in the museum theatre form.
The stories to be staged are K­h­ab­­ardar (‘Beware!’), Karamat (‘The Wonder’), Bekhabri Ka Fayda (‘Price of Innocence’), Ghate Ka Sauda (‘A Bad Deal’), Halal Aur Jhatka and Manto’s most renowned and appreciated work Toba Tek Singh to be performed by storyteller-director Kamal Pruthi. Entry is free.
