Photo exhibition

B N P Paribas will be presenting ‘Women Changing India’, a photo exhibition at the Chitrakala Parishat, till October 20, from 10.30 am to 7.30 pm. On display are the works of six acclaimed ‘Magnum’ photographers — Martine Franck, Alex Webb, Patrick Zachmann, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Olivia Arthur and Raghu Rai — who have documented the changing roles, aspirations, opportunities and challenges that Indian women face, whether they live in villages or cities.

Great acts

The ‘Ranga Shankara Theatre Festival’ will be held from October 27 to November 11. This year, the theme celebrates William Shakespeare. In store at the festival are productions from different corners of the world and two from India.

 From Mumbai, there are Atul Kumar’s ‘Twelfth Night’ and Sunil Shanbag’s ‘All’s Well That Ends Well’. And from overseas, the plays include Dhaka Theatre’s ‘The Tempest’ from Bangladesh; and Marjanishvili’s ‘As You Like It’ from Georgia.

The opening ceremony  will usher in the festival with a theatrical ensemble that will feature renowned theatre personalities. There will be a sonnet recitation evening, screenings of two films based on his work, arts appreciation course, solo performances by renowned theatre personalities, a poster-design competition, Shakespeare readings in the parks and more. ‘Nothing Like...’

‘Nothing Like Anything’, a stand-up comedy, starring Kunal Roy Kapoor (‘Delhi Belly’) and Anuvab Pal (‘Loins of Punjab’), will be presented on October 19 at Alila Hotel and Residence, Whitefield and on October 20 at Park Hotel, M G Road. Both the shows will be at 7.30 pm.
The topics will range from reality television, fashion lingo and the noveau riche to the various other absurdities modern India has to offer. Passes of Rs 1,200 per person is inclusive of food and beverages.

In concert

Jagriti Theatre in Whitefield will host a Carnatic music concert on October 20. Keerthana Vaidyanathan, a student of Bombay Jayashri, will sing at 6.30 pm. This will be followed by Bombay Jayashri’s concert. She will be accompanied by Embar Kannan on violin, J Vaidyanathan on mridangam and Anirudh Athreya on khanjira. French feast

French musician Frédéric Pelassy will present a recital on October 31, 7.30 pm at Alliance Francaise. This violinist is among the most feted French artistes in the international music world. In a career spanning 20 years, he has performed in more than 50 countries in all continents. He is said to be a great romantic capable of uplifting music to celestial spheres. In France as well as in Germany and the USA, his Beethoven and Brahms renditions have been saluted as exemplary. The musical evening will feature Jean Sébastien Bach, Sergeî Prokofiev, Darius Milhaud, Jules Massenet, Jacques Ibert, Eugène Ysaye and Nicolo Paganini. Entry is free.

Veena strains

Ananya  is presenting a veena recital by Yogavandana, accompanied by V S Rajagopal (mridangam), Raghavendra Prakash (ghatam) on October 27, 6.30 pm. The venue is Ananya Sabhangana , 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram.

Sing along

Music sensation Enrique Iglesias will perform at Nice Grounds, International Exhibition Centre, 10th Mile, Tumkur Road, Madavara Post, Dasanapura on October 21, 6 pm.

Mellifluous tunes

Nadasurabhi Cultural Association is presenting a grand vocal concert by G Ravikiran on October 21, 4.15 pm at The Indian Heritage Academy Hall, 6th Block, near police station, Koramangala.

The vocalist G Ravikiran will be accompanied by Nalina Mohan on violin,  K U Jayachandra Rao on mridangam and Phanindra Bhaskara on ghatam.

Odissi recital
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations is presenting an odissi dance recital by Vandana Supriya on October 19, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road. The recital is a part of ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’.

‘Nayani’

Nayani, a dance programme from Raadha Kalpa Visual and Performing Arts Production, will be held on October 19, 7 pm at Chowdiah Hall. It is being presented by ‘Heritage’, an NGO, and is a benefit show to support the less privileged in rural India.

The dancers are Parshwanath Upadhye, Pavitra Bhat, Shruti Gopal, Surabhi Bharadwaj and Suhail Bhan. It is a newly choreographed bharatanatyam show, currently being presented across 10 cities in the USA. The choreography, script and direction of the dance programme is by Rukmini Vijayakumar. Music is by Tirumale Srinivas, story is by Vijayalakshmi V and lighting by Arun Murthy.

Gala time

Cultural splendour

The Navaratri Cultural Festival will be held till October 24 at Sri Padmavathi Kala Nikethan premises, No. 161B, 2nd Cross, behind State Bank of Mysore, Mathikere Layout. On October 19, 6.30 pm, Yakshagana will be presented by Karnataka Kala Darshini. Watch the kuchipudi dance ballet Shivaganga by artistes of Padmavathi Kalanikethan on October 21. On October 22, 6.30 pm, enjoy a kuchipudi recital by Vyjayanthi Kashi’s Shambhavi Dance Ensemble and bharatanatyam by the students of Sri Padmavathi Kalanikethan. For details, call 23379968.

‘Nrithyollasa’

Ananya is presenting Ananya Nrithyollasa-5 in the City. On the occasion, bharatanatyam recitals by Bhargavi Prasam, Preethi Bharadwaj and Susheela Mehta will be held on October 28, 6 pm at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, Malleswaram.

Fine rendering

As part of the Navaratri Cultural Festival at Sri Padmavathi Kala Nikethan premises, Mathikere Layout, on October 18, 5.30 pm, musical recitals will be presented by the students of Sri Padmavathi Kala Nikethan and by Chintalapalli Jalaja Prasad. At 6.30 pm, there will another musical concert by Srikantham Nagendra Shashtri.

On October 20, 6.30 pm, there will be a clarinet recital by Pandit Narasimhulu Wadvati and team. Veena recital by Suma Sudhindra will be held on October 23, 6.30 pm and on October 24, the cultural festival will end with a Mahamangalarathi.

Intricate footwork

Drishti Art Centre is presenting the bharatanatyam rangapra­vesha of K Shubha, a disciple of Anuradha Vikranth on October 25, 6.30 pm at Ravindra Kalakshetra.

Melodious mood

Ananya is presenting vocal recitals by Manasi Prasad and Vinay Sharva on November 3, 6.30 pm.

Vocal treat

Malleswaram Sangeetha Sabha is holding a vocal recital by Pavan Rangachar, accompanied by H M Smitha (violin) and B N Chandrmouli (mridangam) on October 20, 6 pm, Sri Ram Mandira, East Park Road, Malleswaram.

‘Rangapravesha’
Rasika Academy of Performing Arts will present the bharata­natyam rangapravesha of Sirisha Yadav L, a disciple of Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran, on October 20, 6.30 pm at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road.
