‘Splendour of...’

Banyan Tree is presenting, ‘Splendour of Masters’, a musical extravaganza on January 25, 7 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall.

There will be a bharatanatyam performance by Alarmel Valli and an odissi recital by Madhavi Mudgal on the occasion.

There will also be a musical concert by Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (mohan veena), Rakesh Chaurasia (flute) along with Prasanna (electric guitar).

Mohamed Farghaly (oud) and Hamda Farghaly (qanoon) will also perform on the occasion.

Cultural mix

CounterCulture is presenting a concert  by Soumik Datta on January 18, 8 pm. As a resident artiste for the London-based ‘Alchemy Festival’ and the ‘Rich Mix Cultural Foundation’, he has led groundbreaking arts projects earning him an international reputation. His top collaborators include Beyonce Knowles, Nitin Sawhney, Raghu Dixit, Bill Bailey, ‘Olivier Award’ winner Akram Khan, ‘Mercury Award’ winner Talvin Singh, Shankar Ehsaan Loy and Javed Akhtar. ‘Ganesh Talkies’

‘Ganesh Talkies’, a musical programme, will be held at Bflat, Indiranagar on January 18, 8.30 pm. ‘Ganesh Talkies’ blends alternative rock, reggae, ska and pop, peppered with influences culled from cinema. The result is Bollywood’s extreme ‘kitsch’ meeting a dance-heavy ethos. Like a movie plot, the songs of ‘Ganesh Talkies’ tell stories that unfold collectively to make the whole picture. Sarod strains

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Infosys Foundation are presenting a sarod recital by Vijetha Anati at Indian Institute of World Culture, Basavangudi on January 24, 6 pm.

 Vocal treat

Bhoomija is presenting two exquisite concerts by Sanjeev Abhyankar, the Hindustani vocalist in the City.

There will be a performance by Sanjeev on January 25, from 8 pm to 10 pm, at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield and another concert on January 26, 7 pm at Brigade MLR Convention Centre in JP Nagar.

He will be accompanied by Vyasmurti Katti on the harmonium and Viswanath Nakod on the tabla for both the concerts. For details, call 41242879.

Soulful notes


Nadasurabhi Cultural Association is presenting a grand vocal recital by TNS Krishna on January 20, 4.15 pm at Indian Heritage Academy Hall, 6th Block, near police station, Koramangala.

Krishna will be accompanied by C N Chandrasekhar on the violin, B C Manjunath on the mridangam and Gururaj on the morsing.

Graduation special
Bflat, in association with The Nathaniel School of Music, is presenting, ‘Batch 19 Live’, the graduation performance of the School on January 17, 8 pm. Fine footwork

Ananya Ramesh is presenting her bharatanatyam rangapravesha on January 20, 6 pm at Ravindra Kalakshetra, J C Road.

Legends together

The ‘Sadguru Sri Thyagabrahma Aradhana Kainkarya Trust’ is conferring the Nataraja Samman for the first time ever on five legends of Indian classical dance, namely Vyjayanthimala Bali, Birju Maharaj, Yamini Krishnamurti, Sonal Mansingh and Bharathi Shivaji. The event will be held on January 19, 6.30 pm at the Tamarind Tree Resort, Konanakunte.

All the awardees would be presenting a short dance piece for about 15 minutes each.

There will also be a dance tribute to the awardees and the awards ceremony will be followed by Smarana — a charity dinner in the memory of Late Namrata Venkatram Reddy who had succumbed to cancer.

The proceeds from the charity dinner will go to the Kidwai Memorial Hospital, specifically for pediatric cancer patients. The event has been conceived and designed by Venkatram Reddy and Usha R K. For donor cards, call 9845082329 or 26532314.

Kuchipudi

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will be presenting a kuchipudi dance recital by M C Sujendra Babu from Channapatna, Ramanagara under the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’ on January 18, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.

‘Urban Ballet’

A contemporary dance, ‘Urban Ballet’, will be held on January 27, 7.30 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. ‘Urban Ballet’ produces a skillful melange between classical music and hip-hop inspired movements.

The result is unique work of art, tinged with the myriad influences of its choreographer.

Inspired by classical ballet, ‘Urban Ballet’ is composed of four acts that show four incarnations of the body. Each of the 10 dancers tries to express artistic singularity through a gesture that slowly frees itself from the usual hip-hop ‘delivery’ and evolves in a universe, borne by the standards of classical music repertoire.

‘Kinkini...’

Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran are performing on the inaugural day of the 29th Kinkini Nrithyotsava on January 25, 7 pm at JSS Auditorium, Shivarathreeswara Circle, Jayanagar.

 Drama


 ‘Sakhi’

Indiranagar Sangeetha Sabha is presenting a special Republic Day programme on January 26, 9.30 am at Purandara Bhavana, 8th Main, HAL Second Stage, Indiranagar. There will be a theatre performance celebrating friendship titled, Sakhi by Gowri Ramnarayan and team from Chennai.

The production explores the many hues of friendship, which are familiar and not so familiar. Admission to the programme is free. For details, call 25215525.
