Sarod strains
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Infosys Foundation is presenting a sarod recital by Vijetha Anati at Indian Institute of World Culture, Basavangudi on January 24, 6 pm.

Santoor notes


Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will be presenting a Carnatic music recital on santoor by N Ganesh from Coimbatore, under the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’, on January 25, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.

‘Bonjour India’
‘Bonjour India’, the colourful India-France cultural exchange, will celebrate friendship between the two countries on January 25 , 6.30 pm at Fortune Select JP Cosmos (behind Sigma Mall) with a book launch of Kenizé Mourad’s ‘In the City of Gold and Silver’. The book, that celebrates the coming together of cultures, is a salute to Hazrat Mahal – a meteor in Indian history .

   Festivities will continue with ‘Urban Ballet’ by Compagnie Rêvolution on January 27, 7.30 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. ‘Urban Ballet’ produces a skilful mélange between classical music and hip-hop inspired movements, the mix of urban dance and a classical score explores differently the relationship between dance and music. On January 30, 7.30 pm, the auditorium of the Alliance Française de Bangalore will play host to Christophe Chassol, pianist and arranger, who composes for films, unites sounds and images to produce music of great elegance in ‘Indiamore’, a tribute that he pays to India through this unclassifiable oeuvre. German course
The Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is offering a combined weekday evening and weekend German language courses from February 17 at their centre on Cunningham Road.
These courses are designed according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The courses are conducted in a learner-friendly ambience by highly qualified, trained teachers using the latest interactive teaching methods and state-of-the-art equipment. ‘Swara...’

Swara Shradhanjali, an all-night music festival, will be held at Bangalore Gayana Samaja on January 24, 9 pm. The festival is in memory  of  Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. On the occasion, there will be a Hindustani vocal recital by Raghavendra Gudi (Dasa Vani), Mukunda Haveri (Santa Vani), Omkarnath Havaldar (Carnatic vocal); T S Satyavathi (Ranga Geethe), Ashok Huggannavar.

A kathak recital will be dance ensemble comprising Murali Mohan, Smitha Srinivasan, Tushar Bhatt, Arpita Banerjee, Poorna Acharya, Samanvitha Sharma, Pooja Bhatt,  Chandana Ramesh, Nandini K Mehta.

 There will also be the screening of documentary Swara Namana, a short film on Pandit Bhimsen Joshi produced by Sunaada Art Foundation. Tabla solo will be presented by Ravindra Yavagal, and Hindustani vocal by Nagaraja Rao Havaldar.

Vocal treat
Bhoomija is presenting two exquisite concerts by Sanjeev Abhyankar, a Hindustani vocalist in the City. There will be a performance by Sanjeev on January 25, from 8 pm to 10 pm, at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield and another concert on January 26, 7 pm at Brigade MLR Convention Centre in J P Nagar.
 He will be accompanied by Vyasmurti Katti on the harmonium and Viswanath Nakod on the tabla for both the concerts. For details, call 41242879.

‘Yamini’
The Spic Macay IIMB Chapter is presenting Yamini 2013 from January 25, 7 pm to January 26, 6 am at the IIMB open air theatre.

The dusk-to-dawn musical night will feature the doyens of Indian classical music and dance.
The series of concerts bring together a few stars plucked from the galaxy of Indian classical music and seeks to light the night with an enchanting musical experience. Yamini is a pageant for young and upcoming artistes to perform alongside established artistes and weave the magic of their artistry that has descended from generation after generation in its purest form.

The event will begin with a bharatanatyam recital by Malavika Sarukkai at 7 pm, followed by Carnatic violin recital by Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi at 9.30 pm.
At 11.15 pm, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt will present a mohan veena concert.
At 1.30 am, Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar will present a Hindustani vocal recital.
From 3.45 am to 6 am, Bombay Jayashri will
present a Carnatic vocal recital.

‘Drishti’ fest
The 8th edition of the ‘Drishti Dance Festival’, organised by Drishti Art Foundation, by  Anuradha Vikranth and T M Vikranth, will be held at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on January 26, 6 pm. The event will be a visual feast with an array of delightful performances. It will have an odissi dance recital by ‘Nrityantar Dance Ensemble’ led by Madhulita Mohapatra; bharatanatyam by Anuradha Vikranth and her ‘Drishti Dance Ensemble’; and Indian contemporary dance by Samudra, a leading Indian contemporary dance company from Kerala. The evening will also feature Punyah, a classical dance ensemble led by Parshwanath Upadhya.

‘Ananya...’
As part of Ananya Nrithyollasa-7, bharatanatyam recitals by Ganna Smirnova Rajhans (Ukraine), Ashwini Srivatsan (US), Varsha Jayaram (Bangalore), will be held on January 27, 6 pm at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, Malleswaram.

Kuchipudi
Shama Krishna, a disciple of Veena Murthy Vijay, will present a kuchipudi recital, as a part of Rasa Sanje dance festival on January 25, 7 pm at ADA Rangamandira, opposite Ravindra Kalakshetra, J C Road.



‘Sakhi’
Indiranagar Sangeetha Sabha is presenting a special Republic Day programme on January 26, 9.30 am at Purandara Bhavana, 8th Main, HAL Second Stage, Indiranagar.

There will be a theatre performance celebrating friendship titled Sakhi by Gowri Ramnarayan and team from Chennai. The production explores the many hues of friendship, which are familiar and not so familiar. Admission to the programme is free. For details, call 25215525.

‘Kinkini...’
Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran will perform on the inaugural day of the 29th Kinkini Nrithyotsava on January 25, 7 pm at JSS Auditorium, Shivarathreeswara Circle, Jayanagar. The festival which will be held till January 31 will also have artistes like Priyanka L Achar and Poornima Ashok among others. For details, call 26631526.

‘Manas’
Manas, a bharatanatyam performance by Yamini Muthanna, will be held on January 26, 7 pm at JSS Auditorium, 1st Main Road, 38th Cross, Jayanagar 8th block. The choreography will be broken into five chapters inspired by the hymns in the Taittiriya Upanishad, where it is said that the human organism has five layers. Yamini has explored this concept in the production Manas.

‘Rangapravesha’
The bharatanatyam rangapravesha of Sandhya Muralidharan will be held on January 26, 6.15 pm at the Indiranagar Sangeetha Sabha, ‘Purandara Bhavana’, Behind Indiranagar Club, 8th Main Road, HAL II Stage.
