Bharata Ratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi

Unmatched in his renditions, panditji regaled his audience for close to 7 decades. He is probably the only artist of our times who impressed upon a large variety of audience, connoisseurs and amateurs alike. His stress on purity of the swaras, power of taans and the emotion of the song itself moved many to tears and audience listened to him in awe. His strict adherence to the tradition of Kiraana thought amidst his own improvisations serve as a reference for countless music practitioners today. Gifted with a powerful and free flowing voice he sang raagas & compositions with respect they deserved and excelled in every form of music he choose; pure classical or thumris or bhajans in Kannada, Hindi and Marathi. Panditji is a phenomenon and his music will continue to inspire listeners for generations to come.
