Special treat

On the occasion of ‘Women’s Day’, Hard Rock Café, St Mark’s Road is holding a week-long celebration till March 10. You can dance to the tunes of women rock stars that will be played by the DJ. Foot-tapping music of Madonna, Tina Turner, Avril Lavigne, Courtney Love and many others will be played.

Great blend

MES Kalavedi presents a music programme at New Conference Hall, MES College, Malleswaram on March 9, 6.30 pm. The artistes of the evening include Priyanka C Prakash on the vocals, MP Aditya on violin and VS Rajagopal on mridangam.

Vocal delight

Sursagar is presenting along with Alliance Francaise a vocal concert by Omkar Dadarkar on March 8, 6.30 pm. This is part of the ‘Music Discourse’ series. The venue is Alliance Francaise.
   He will be accompanied by Gurumurthy Vaidya on tabla and Ashwin Wal­avalkar on harmonium.

Women composers


As part of ‘International Women’s Day’, a musical programme called ‘Women Composers of India – Celebrating the Unsung, Songs in Eight Languages’ will be held on March 8, 6 pm at Bangalore International Centre, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II Stage. Concept, script and narration are by Sakuntala Narasimhan. Archana Udupa will sing on the occasion.

‘Kalotsav’


Sree Ramakrishna Bhajana Sabha Trust is organising Kalotsav 2013 till March 17 at Odukathur Mutt Hall, Gangadhara Chetty Road. The different artistes at the programmes are Mysore Nagaraj, T M Krishna, Visakha Hari,  Abhishek Raghuram, P Unnikrishnan and Bombay P S K Murthy and party among others.  Nritya Jahnavi’

A classical dance festival called Nritya Jahnavi will be held on March 10, 6 pm at Sri Munivenkataih Bayalu Ranga Mandira, Ideal Homes, Rajarajeshwarinagar. The inauguration of the festival is by Guru Vasanthalakshmi. The artistes who will be participating are from the Academy of Bharatanatyam, Rajarajeshwarinagar; Vishrutha School of Performing Arts and Tandava, the vibrance.

‘Kathak Ki...’

Nadam Ensemble led by Nandini K Mehta and K Murali Mohan will be presenting Kathak Ki Khanak — an evening of vibrant and mesmerising kathak, under the ‘Horizon Series’ by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), on March 9, 6 pm at Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Unique act


‘Bangalore Fictions’, a unique performance, will be presented by Alliance Française in association with Galleryske, The Embassy of France in India and the Institut Français. ‘Bangalore Fictions’ is an interactive choreographic navigation by ‘N+N Corsino’ that has been created in India and France. It is based on the principle of a graphic novel. Texts and images will come together in a narrative process and construct an imagination of body movements. The choreography and direction are by Nicole Corsino and Norbert Corsino. The dancers are Revanta Sarabhai and Pooja Purohit. Music is by Jacques Diennet. The musicians are Jayan Nair, Rajesh Parichipully, T Palanivelu, Manikanthan and Shajeesh Rajan. The translations are by Neelabh Ahsk, Usha Rau, Pravin Pandya and Jean Poncet. It will be held from March 18 to 21 at Gaalleryske, 2, Berlie Street, Langford Town.

Bharatanatyam


A bharatanatyam dance recital will be presented by Raksha Karthik on March 8, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road under the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’.

‘Pranamamyaham’

Rupesh K C is presenting a bharatanatyam recital Pranamamyaham on March 10, 6.15 pm at ADA Rangamandira, opposite Ravindra Kalakshetra,
J C Road.

‘Yudh...’

‘Yudh: Three Perspectives, One Truth’, a solo bharatanatyam dance theatre performance, will be presented by Savitha Sastry on March 9, 7 pm at Chowdaiah Hall. The story and stage play are by A K Srikanth. The music is scored by Chennai-based composer Rajkumar Bharathi. Entry is free.

 Kannada play

Dakshinee will present the Kannada play Kooga Keluvavarill, based on the original Hindi play by Nadira Raj Babbar, on March 9 and 10, 7 pm at Sinchana Aptharanga (Intimate Theatre), 1420, 9th ‘B’ Cross, 39th Main, JP Nagar 1st Phase. It is adapted to Kannada and enacted by Suryakantha Gunakimath.

Music and sound are designed by K R Ganesh. It is designed and directed by M C Anand.

‘C sharp...’

As part of the ‘Curtain Raisers’ event at Jagriti, Whitefield, AllMyTea (Mumbai) will stage ‘Cock’ by Mike Bartlett from March 8 to 10; ‘C sharp C blunt’ will be staged from March 15 to 17 (On Saturdays, 8 pm and Sundays, 3 pm and 6.30 pm). This Indo-German collaboration is being produced by Flinntheatre, Kassel Germany.

It is directed by Sophia Stepf from Germany and performed by MD Pallavi. Q Theatre Productions (Mumbai) will stage ‘So Many Socks’ by Annie Zaidi from March 22 to 24; and Tortilla’s ‘Seussification of A Midsummer Night's Dream’ by Peter Bloedel from March 29 to 31.  ‘Skin of...’
‘Skin of the Earth’, an exhibition of recent works by Babu Eshwar Prasad, will be on display at Gallery Sumukha, Wilson Garden till March 13. Working across media with painting, digital prints and videos, the exhibition engages with the idea of soil.

‘Two Artists...’

‘Two Artists, Many Perspectives’, an exhibition by Joe D’souza and Munaf Shaikh will be held till March 10, 11 am to 7 pm at Alliance Française. Joe D’souza’s works are essentially anatomical. Munaf is a self-taught artist. All his works are in shades of black and white. According to him, these two shades can represent many shades of life.

‘Bargain’
A painting exhibition titled ‘Bargain’ will be on display at Magnitude Gallery till March 31. The latest collection will have more than 150 original paintings to choose from.

Collective strokes

A collection of  paintings by Ramesh Gorjala, Leela Tyagi and Thota Vaikutam will be on display till March end at Renaissance Gallerie.

 New Voices...’

NGMA Bengaluru, in association with the Toto Funds the Arts (TFA), is screening the second edition of  ‘New Voices in Indian Films’. It will have Anoop Sathyan’s ‘A Dream Called America’, Raam Reddy’s Ika (Feather) and Anusha Nandakumar’s Sita Haran aur Anya Kahaniyan, on March 16, 5 pm to 7 pm at the NGMA Auditorium.

Artisans’ world


Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Limited is holding a ‘Handicraft Month’, an expo of carpets, ethnic and contemporary furniture, pottery, metal craft, woodcraft, stoneware and home décor from across the country, till March 27, 10 am to 8.30 pm at CCIE premises, 144, MG Road (near Trinity Circle Metro Station).

‘Home’


‘Nice Package’, in collaboration with Time and Space Gallery, is presenting ‘Home’, an exhibition of vintage furniture, old rugs and handmade linen. The exhibition will be on till March 10, from 11 am to 7 pm at Time and Space Gallery, Lavelle Road.

The documentary film Dinarang will be screened on March 15, 6.30 pm at Bangalore International Centre, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II Stage.

Exhibition
On the occasion of ‘International Women’s Day, Galerie De’Arts and Studio Revola are presenting an exhibition titled ‘All Things Women’, where art meets fashion.

It will feature an exquisite range of bags and accessories with a unique single and limited edition prints of original art works. The exhibition will be held from March 8 to 10, 11 am to 7 pm. The venue is Galerie De’Arts, 11th Floor, Barton Centre, 84 MG Road.
