MUSIC

Jazz time

The ICCR, in collaboration with Embassy of Israel in India and International Music and Arts Society, will be presenting an evening of jazz music by Ararat, the internationally-acclaimed jazz troupe from Israel, on March 18, 7 pm at Chowdaiah Hall.


‘Laya Raaga...’

Sthree Thaal Tharang is presenting Laya Raaga Samarpanam on March 16, 5.30 pm at Snea Bhavan (JTO Hall), 13th Main, 20th Cross, near Balamuri Ganapathi Temple and Allahabad Bank, Sahakarnagar.
This is part of the ‘Karnataka Sangeetha Grand Musical and Percussion Ensemble’. Sukkanya Ramgopal will be on ghata tharang, ghatam and konnakol. Yogavandana (veena), Soumya Ramachandran (violin), Ranjani Siddanthi Venkatesh (mridangam) and Bhagyalakshmi M Krishna (morsing) will accompany her.

‘Yaadgaar Nagme’

Yaadgaar Nagme, an evening of music from the golden era of Indian cinema by Babloo Mukherjee and his team, will be held at Chowdaiah Hall on March 16, 6 pm.
The singers for the evening include Babloo Mukherjee, Salim, Hitesh Mehta, Sinchan Dixit, Sanjay Singh, Raja Dattagupta, Kavya Maiya and Abhishek Mukherjee.
Music will be by Irfan and team. Donor passes are available on www.indianstage.in and www.bookmyshow.com.

In concert

Lucky Ali will be perform on March 16, 6.30 pm onwards at The Courtyard, Phoenix Marketcity, Mahadevapura, Whitefield Road.

Soulful tunes

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Infosys Foundation are presenting D R Bendre and Ananda Kandhara Geethe by Mukunda H Kulakarni at The Indian Institute of World Culture, No 6, B P Wadia Road, Basavanagudi on March 14, 6 pm.

DRAMA

‘The Long Way...’

Evam is presenting ‘The Long way Home’ at Alliance Francaise on March 16, 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm. It is directed by Karthik Kumar. The cast includes Anita Ratnam, Amrutha Varshini and Lakshmi
Priyaa C.

‘Blackened...’

AAKT, an independent theatre troupe based in Bangalore, will stage ‘Blackened Petals, a woman-centric play on March 16, 7 pm at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram. The playwright and director is Pradeep Sastry.

‘C Sharp...’

As part of the ‘Curtain Raisers’ event at Jagriti, Whitefield, ‘C Sharp C Blunt’, a devised performance, will be staged from March 15 to 17. On Saturdays, the show will be at 8 pm and on Sundays, at 3 pm and 6.30 pm.

This Indo-German collaboration is being produced by Flinntheatre, Kassel Germany. It is directed by Sophia Stepf from Germany and performed by M D Pallavi.

 ‘Q Theatre Productions’ (Mumbai) play ‘So Many Socks’ by Annie Zaidi will be staged from March 22 to 24. Tortilla’s’ ‘Seussification of A Midsummer Night's Dream’ by Peter Bloedel will be performed from March 29 to 31. For tickets, log on to www.bookmyshow.com


ART

Group show

A group show will be held at Renaissance Gallerie till March 15. Paintings by Faiz, Palash Das, C N Kodandaram, Tamal Nandi and Til­ok Mandal will be on display.

Fine strokes

Paintings by Ramesh Gorjala, Leela Tyagi and Thota Vaikutam will be on display at Renaissance Gallerie till the end of March.

‘Bargain’

A painting exhibition, titled ‘Bargain’, will be on display at Magnitude Gallery till March 31. The latest collection will have more than 150 original paintings to choose from.

Varied lines

Paintings by Rakhi Sharma will be on display at the Renaissance Gallerie from March 19 to 23.

‘Infinity... 

Nivriti, the art quarter is presenting ‘Infinity of Hope’, a solo show and charcoal expressions, featuring Jayant Hubli, from March 18 to April 18.

POT POURRI

Artisans’ world

Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Limited is holding a ‘Handicraft Month’, an  expo of carpets, ethnic and contemporary furniture, pottery, metal craft, woodcraft, stoneware and home décor from across the country, till March 27, 10 am to 8.30 pm at CCIE premises, 144, MG Road (near Trinity Circle Metro Station).

Workshop

Renowned theatre artiste from the UK, John Britton, in collaboration with ‘The Arshinagar Project is holding a two-day intensive workshop and performance on March 23 and 24 at Vist­har, Dodda Gubbi.  John will conducting a workshop on ‘Ensemble Physical Performance’. He will also perform a theatre piece called ‘Echo Chamber’ on March 23, 7 pm.

Film festival

The Bangalore International Centre (BIC), in association with Suchitra Film Society, has arranged the ‘18th European Union Film Festival — Celebrating Women’ from March 21 to 28.  Films will be screened at venues like the Bangalore International Centre, Suchitra Film Society and Alliance Francaise during this period.  Five films will be screened at Bangalore International Centre – on March 22, 25, 26, 27 and 28. All the films at BIC will start at 7 pm.

Indigo exhibition

‘Woven Air’, a woven narrative in handmade indigo, by Maku will be on display on March 15 and 16, 11 am to 7 pm at the Vermilion House, 3/12, Cleveland Road Cross, Fraser Town. The collection promotes indigo blue as a single colour through its wide product range of saris in khadi, silk, Jamdani of Bengal, dresses, tunics, khadi pants, scarves and accessories.  The exhibition is being conducted by Santanu Das and Chirag Gandhi. The brand ‘Maku’ makes a very bold statement by promoting a single colour indigo through its wide product range in textile, from fashion to home. Santanu Das will also have a talk about his products on March 14, 4 pm. For details, call 41225830.

Science camp

‘Info Evening - Study Bridge and Science Camp’ for 11th and 12th grade students and parents will be held on March 14, 6.30 pm at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan. Entry is free. For details, call 25205305/06.

German course

A youth course, ‘Learning German is fun’, will be held from April 2 to 19 at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Indiranagar.

With songs and stories, dance and drama, movies and much more, the course for those in the age group of 12 to 16. The timing is Monday to Friday, 10 am to 12.15 pm. Super intensive course for teenagers with international certification will be held from April 8 to May 23 at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Indiranagar. VThe age group is 12 to 18 years and the timing is 2 pm to 6 pm.  Intensive course for teenagers with international certification will be held from June 10 to Nov 29 at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Indiranagar (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 5.15 pm to 6.45 pm.) DANCE

Vasantha Nrityotsava, a festival of dance, will be held on March 15, 6 pm at Nayana Auditorium, J C Road.

Dharani T Kashyap will present kuchipudi, Vidya Shimladka will present bharatanatyam and Sankhya Gopal will stage a kathak recital.

‘Bangalore Fictions’
‘Bangalore Fictions’ by N+N Corsino, will be presented by the Alliance Française de Bangalore in association with Galleryske, The Embassy of France in India and the Institut Français at Gaalleryske, 2, Berlie Street, Langford Town, from March 18 to 21. It is an interactive choreographic navigation by N+N Corsino that has been created in India and France. Based on the principle of a graphic novel, texts and images blend together in a narrative process and construct an imagination of body movements.

Choreography and direction are by Nicole Corsino and Norbert Corsino. The dancers are Revanta Sarabhai, Pooja Purohit. Music is by Jacques Diennet. The musicians are Jayan Nair, Rajesh Parichipully, T Palanivelu, Manikanth and Shajeesh Rajan. The translations are by Neelabh Ahsk, Usha Rau, Pravin Pandya and Jean Poncet.

Yakshagana

Havyasi Yakshagana troupe will stage a yakshagana performance on March 17, 6 pm at Shree Prasanna Anjeneya Temple, Ragigudda.

Bharatanatyam

A bharatanatyam dance recital will be presented by Preethi Kumar on March 15, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road under the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’.

‘Natarajotsava’

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, in association with Karnataka Nrityakala Parishath and Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy, is organising Natarajotsava – 2013 on March 17, 4 pm at the Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Senior dance teachers Jyothi Pattabhiram, Mala Shashikanth, Gayatri Keshavan and A V Sathyanarayana will offer Natya Seve on this occasion. Bharatanatyam teacher Nandini Easwar will be felicitated on the occasion.

‘Shiva Ganga’

Artistes of Sri Padmavathi Kala Nikethan are enacting a kuchipudi dance ballet, Shiva Ganga, depicting the story of Gangavatham Bagiratha on March 17, 11 am at Chowdaiah Hall.
This is part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Telugu Vignana Samithi.
