DRAMA

‘Aaine’

Museum Theatre is presenting the Hindi play Aaine (‘Mirror’) on July 27, 7.45 pm at Yours Truly Alma, No. 1 E, 17th Cross Road, Indiranagar. The play is a collage of highly engaging and hilarious folktales, directed by Kamal Pruthi, and written by Rashmi Ramani. For details, call 8861907362.

‘Indian Diva’

The Bangalore auditions for the ‘Indian Diva 2013’ will be held on August 2. The city auditions will culminate in the final round of auditions in Mumbai, where the lucky finalists will be shortlisted and selected to take part in ‘Indian Diva 2013’. The grand finale will be held in Mumbai. The ‘Indian Diva 2013’ will compete in ‘Miss Universe 2013’, in November, in Moscow. Talent search

Spicmacay and Doordarshan are presenting a national competition of classical music for children. Called NaadBhed, it will have masters of Indian classical music as judges.

The regional rounds of the competition will be held at Doordarshan’s 20 regional Kendras, including Bangalore. The awards can be won in categories such as ‘Vid MS Subbalaxmi Yuvapuraskar’ (Carnatic vocal); ‘Vid Sheikh Chinna Maulana Yuvapuraskar’ (Carnatic instrumental); ‘Vid Palghat Mani Aiyar Yuvapuraskar’ (accompanist); ‘Pt Bhimsen Joshi Yuvapuraskar’ (Hindustani Vocal); ‘Pt Ravishankar Yuvapuraskar’ (Hindustani instrumental); and ‘Ustad Allah Rakha Yuvapuraskar’ (Hindustani accompanist). The last date for applying is July 31.

Lecture

As part of the ‘Art In Sight: Meet the Curator Series’, a lecture by Kathrin Rhomberg called ‘Characteristics of Contemporary: A New Era?’ will be held on July 28, 6.30 pm at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan. Entry is free. For details, call 25205305/6.

Sari sale

There is an exhibition-cum-sale of ethnic saris with co-ordinated jewellery by Usha Sridhar from Chennai at Rain Tree, No. 4, Sankey Road on July 26 and 27.
The exhibition has different types of embroidery in kanchivaram silk saris. There are also block-printed saris in pure silk, silk cotton and handloom cottons and a few from the ready-to-wear variety too among others.


Children’s workshop


Sanchari Theatre is organising a theatre workshop for children titled ‘Balasanchari’ from August 4 at Sanchari Theatre, KH Kalasoudha, Hanumanthanagar. The classes will be held every weekend. The timings on Saturday is from 3 m to 6 pm and Sunday is from 10 am to 1 pm. The classes will conclude with the children putting up a performance during the children’s day week. Walkathon

Community Services of Bangalore, in association with Nova Speciality Surgery, Koramangala, is organising a ‘Walking Tall For Charity’, a walkathon on July 28, 7.30 am at Cubbon Park. Malnad Mela’
Monsoon Malnad Mela will be held at Vriksh, The Organic Store’, 88, 3rd Main Road Vyalikaval on July 26 and 27, 10.30 am to  6.30 pm. On July 28, it will be held from 10.30 am to 6:30 pm at Sara Organic, Sahakaranagar Main Road. A range of monsoon seeds will be available along with garden, field and forest produce. In addition, a limited number of Malnad tubers will also be available.

MUSIC

‘Sound Awake’


‘Sound Awake’, the electronic dance music festival, a platform for performances by international artistes, will be held on August 4, Supernova Arena and Convention Centre, Yelahanka, Airport Road. DJ Darude will be performing at the festival.

Rock on

Bflat is presenting a concert by ‘Clown With a Frown’, a brass rock band on July 27, 8.30 pm.

The concert will feature Michael Mueller (Germany) on the saxophone, Rahul Joshua Thomas on the trombone, Kavya Lakshminarayanan on the trumpet, Rahul Richard on the trumpet, Jonathan Reuben on the guitar, Abheet Anand on the bass, Reuben Jacob on the guitar, Abigail Attavar on the vox and Pramod Pratap on the
percussion.

 ‘Clown with a Frown’ is an eight-member pop, funk and rock band who perform a repertoire that includes their own compositions as well as a variety of covers, always with their own twist.

Tribute

The Bangalore School of Music is presenting Le Giulianiane, celebrating Mauro Giuliani, the Italian guitarist composer, on July 26, 7.30 pm at Alliance Francaise. The programme has been put together by guitarist Dinesh Khundrakpam and will be joined by popular artiste Len and young artistes Nandini Sudhir and Jason Dass to perform duos, trios and solos. Classical strains

There will be a Carnatic classical vocal concert by Harini and Sharada on July 27, 6 pm at Krishna Kala Kendra, Bhavani Shankara Devasthana, Vasantapura. The singers will be accompanied by Aditi Krishnaprakash on the violin, BC Manjunath on mridangam and G Guruprasanna on khanjari.

Competition

Hard Rock Cafe is organising an ‘OpenMic Competition’ with an emphasis on musicality and stage performance. The effort is to find some of the best voices of the country and provide them with a platform for their singular talent. Young voices

Athang Expression Private Limited is hosting a concert titled Malhar on July 26, 6.30 pm at the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Course Road. There will be a vocal concert by Yogesh Hunswadkar with Ravindra Katoti on the harmonium. They will be accompanied by Udayraj Karpoor on the tabla and Ashwin W on the harmonium.

Rare combination

Ananya is presenting a violin-khanjira-piano recital by Jyotsna Srikanth, N Amrit and Shadrach Solomon on July 28, 6.30 pm at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, Malleswaram.

First steps

Natyantharanga is organising the bharatanatyam rangapravesha of Ashritha Segu on July 28, 5.45 pm at JSS Auditorium, 1st Main, 38th Cross, 8th Block, Jayanagar.

‘Naman’

Naman, a festival of odissi dance, will be held on July 28, 5.30 pm at the ADA Rangamandira, JC Road. Performances will be rendered by Pavithra Reddy, Rahul Acharya, Ramesh Chandra Jena and Madhusmita Mohanty. This will be followed by honouring and felicitations of gurus and guests.

‘Nritya Sambhrama’

Natya Niketan is presenting Nritya Sambhrama, a bharatanatyam performance on July 26, 6 pm at the Bangalore Gayana Samaja. Artistes Sahana Kashyap and Ragashree Komandur will perform along with Deepa Srikanth.

Kuchipudi


The artistes of Sri Padmavathi Kala Nikethan are presenting a kuchipudi performance on July 27, 7 pm at Sri Chamundeswari Temple premises, Doddabommasandra, Vidyaranyapura. The performance is part of the 22nd anniversary celebration of the temple.

Bharatanatyam


The bharatanatyam rangapravesham of Priyadarshini Vasudev and Meghana Vasudev will be held on July 26, 6 pm at ADA Rangamandira. Both are disciples of Soundarya Srivathsa.

Cultural treat

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will be presenting a kuchipudi dance recital by Anjana Parashar under the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’ on July 26, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.

ART

Original works

A series of abstract original paintings, under the theme ‘Esoteric Expressions’, will be on display till July 31, from 10 am to 8 pm, at Magnitude Gallery, 27th Cross, 13th Main, 3rd Block, Jayanagar.  This collection will present non-representational and subtle magic of vibrant colours and media.

Creative form


A solo show of illustrations, photographs and installations by Vimal Chandran will be held till July 28 at Thalam, Level 2, 80, Krishna Reddy Colony, Domlur.

The show is a jugalbandi of various creative media including photographs, illustrations, audio and video installations.

Abstract images

Kynkyny Art is presenting ‘Many Worlds’, featuring the mixed-media murals of Basuki Dasgupta, at Kynkyny Art, till August 14. A master of contemporary folk art, the Tumkur-based artist turns grand, weighty themes like folklore and mythology into abstract, quirky, almost minimalist
images.

‘Homelands...’

‘Homelands – A 21st Century Story of Home, Away, And All the Places in Between’, a contemporary art exhibition by Suki Dhanda, will he held till August 14 at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Palace Road. It is curated by Latika Gupta.

Collaborated show

A collaborated show of paintings by Karen Rempel and Sayyad Shaiek is on at the Renaissance Gallerie, No. 104, West Minster, 13, Cunningham Road till July 27 between 11 am and 7 pm.

‘Plot’

‘Plot’, an exhibition by Sreshta Rit Premnath, will be on display at Galleryske, Berlie Street, Langford Town, till August 24.

Best pieces

Artist Milind Nayak is showcasing some of his best works till August 16. The venue is The Studio, 26/2, between 1st and 2nd Cross, D’Costa Layout, Cooke Town. The timings are 11 am to 6 pm (Monday to Saturday) and 2 pm to 6 pm (Sundays).

‘Sojourn’

Gallery Time and Space will hold ‘Sojourn’, a painting exhibition, at its gallery on Lavelle Road from July 27 onwards. Paintings of artist Surajit Chanda will be on display at the exhibition, which will be open from 11 am to 7 pm, on weekdays and Saturdays till August 3.

‘The Last Harvest’, an exhibition of paintings by Rabindranath Tagore, will be held at the NGMA, Palace Road, till July 28.

‘Looking In’

‘Looking In’, an exhibition of sculpture by Lalitha Shankar, will be on view from July 28 to August 17, 10.30 am to 6 pm, at Gallery Sumukha.

Copper sculptures

‘Of Sounds and Silences’, an exhibition of copper sculptures by Raviram Ramakrishnan, will be held at Galerie De’Arts, 11th floor, Barton Centre till August 8.

Cartoon time

The Indian Institute of Cartoonists is presenting Rama Baana, an exhibition of works by cartoonist R Krishnamurthy, popularly known as Ramadhyani, from July 27 to August 10 at the Indian Cartoon Gallery, No. 1, Midford House, Midford, Garden, off MG Road, Trinity Circle.
