POT POURRI

‘Down the...’

India Foundation For The Arts is holding the screening of ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’ and ‘A Very Old Man With Winged Sandals’, two films by Yashaswini Raghunandan and Ekta Mittal, on August 27, 7 pm at 1 Shanthi Road. For details, call 9880227706.

‘Pichwai’ collection

A collection of Pichwais of Nathdvara, painted by Mukesh, will be presented at Vermilion House from August 22 to 24, between 10.30 am and 7.30 pm. Pichwai is the pictorial manifestation of pushtimarga tradition.  

‘Voices from...’

As part of its participation in ‘Voices from the Waters’, the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is collaborating with City-based water researcher and writer S Vishwanath and documentary photographer Vivek Muthuramalingam who will curate a photo exhibition at the Goethe gallery. The theme this year is Namma Ooru - Namma Neeru and will focus on the symbiotic relationship between lakes and open wells in and around Bangalore.

The exhibition will open on August 30 and the venue is Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan.

Workshop

ESIGELEC and Campus France India are conducting a CV and SOP writing workshop on August 23, between 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm at the Auditorium in Alliance Française.
This workshop is aimed at students who would like to pursue higher education in foreign universities.

‘Garden Day’
Garden City Farmers (GCF) is celebrating ‘World Kitchen Garden Day’ with the 8th edition of Oota From Your Thota, the urban organic gardening fair.

The one-day event will be held on August 25, 10 am to 5 pm at the Durga Parameshwari Grounds, opposite Ranga Shankara, JP Nagar.

Village scene


Magnitude Gallery is presenting an exhibition of paintings called ‘Rural Panorama’ till
August 31. It will have a series of original paintings capturing the simplicity, tranquility and joy of rural India.The gallery is located at 140/13, 27th Cross, 13th Main, 3rd Block, Jayanagar.

Mixed lot

HCG Foundation is organising a contemporary art show called Alae till September 30, from 10 am to 6 pm, at Swasti Contemporary Art Gallery. From drawings and paintings to graphics, the show will have interesting art works on display.

The participating artists are JMS Mani from Bangalore, Sunitha Varma from Rajpur, Jayaraj from Chennai and Ravindra Salve from Delhi to mention a few.

‘Plot’, an exhibition by Sreshta Rit Premnath, will be on display at Galleryske, Berlie
Street, Langford Town, till August 24.

‘Rendezvous...’


‘KalaRasa — Flavours of Art’ is presenting ‘Rendezvous with 71’, the works of 71 amateur artists on one exquisite platform. Each brings to the canvas unique practices and creativity that is a representation of their thoughts, emotions and individuality. The paintings explore culture, spirituality, fantasy, traditions, ideology, and human pathos. KalaRasa Art House is located at 62, 6th Floor, ‘The High Street’, 11th Main Jayanagar 4th Block. The exhibition is on till September 18.

MUSIC
Feel-good songs

Solder will be playing at Hard Rock Café, St Mark’s Road on August 22, 8.30 pm. Often described as a unit of five drifters glued together by music, ‘Solder’ was born with the intent of writing feel-good songs, and belting them out live and loud.

Vocal delight

Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira presents a grand vocal concert by Vidushi Amrutha Venkatesh, ‘A’ grade artiste of AIR and Doordarshan in both vocal and veena, on August 25, 5.30 pm at Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira Concert Hall, 9th Main, Banashankari II Stage. She will be accompanied on violin by Vidwan MR Gopinath and on mridangam by Vidwan SJ Arjun Ganesh.

Piano concert

The Forum for Teachers of Western Classical Music is presenting Julian Clef in a piano concert on August 31, 7 pm at St Mark’s Cathedral, MG Road.

The programme will have works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Kapustin. It is open to all music lovers.

Light strains

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan  and Infosys Foundation will present Sugama Sangeetha by Veereha G Wali on August 22, 6 pm at the Indian Institute of World Culture, Basavanagudi.

Hindustani notes


Ranjani Fine Arts is organising a series of baithaks, performances of Hindustani music in an informal setting.

The inaugural baithak, featuring Nikhil Patwardhan on sitar and Partha Mukherjee on tabla, will be held on August 24, 5 pm to 7 pm at 3rd floor, Sobha Lakeview Clubhouse, off Outer Ring Road, Bellandur.

Folk touch

Indian Council for Cultural Relations will be presenting folk songs by Baburao Kobal from Gulbarga under the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’ on
August 23, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.

Classical evening


Natasha Ramanujam, the classically trained French horn player from the US, will be performing at St Mark’s Cathedral, MG Road on August 24, 6.30 pm.

Natasha Ramanujam has presented numerous concerts throughout North America, Chile, Argentina, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria with multiple ensemble including the ‘San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra’ and the ‘New England Conservatory Youth Philharmonic Orchestra’ in Boston.

Fusion show

Vijay Kiran and Nairs’ Friends Association is organising ‘NFA-Nite’ at Sangeetha Sabha, behind Indiranagar Club, on August 25 at 5.30 pm. As part of the event, violinist Balabhaskar’s fusion show will be held.

There will also be skits by comedians Jayan Kalavoor and team.

‘Sangeet Utsav’


The Devnandan Ubhayaker Yuva Sangeet Utsav is now in its 27th year and is being held on August 24 and 25.

On August 24, 6 pm, artistes Shivani Mirajkar (vocal) and Chintan Upadhyay (vocal-Dhrupad), will perform. On August 25, 10 am, Chaitanya Bhat (vocal) and Subhranil Sarkar (sitar) will perform.

On August 25, 6 pm, Apratim Majumdar (sarod) and Ramakant Gaekwad
(vocal) will present recitals. The venue is Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Race, Course Road. Entry is free.

Popular numbers

The band Parvaaz will performing live at Phoenix MarketCity, Whitefield on August 24,
6 pm. It will perform popular Hindi numbers along with rock ‘n roll, blues and psychedelic genres.

The band members are Khalid Ahamed (vocals), Kashif Iqbal (guitar and
vocals), Fidel D'souza (bass) and Sachin Banandur (drums and percussions).

Rock ‘n’ roll

‘Ceebee & The Geebies’ is bringing back the 50s and 60s style of rock ‘n’ roll, with renditions of popular modern hits on August 23, 9 pm at Opus, Palace Cross Road.

Carlton Braganza (Ceebee) is an artist, a writer, a designer, and a singer. The Geebies comprise Bryden Lewis, Jonathan Wesley, Wilfred Demoz and Gaurav Vaz.

‘Raga Reetigoula’


Ananya is holding as part of Geetha Shastra Sinchana-17, Raga Reetigoula by Priyanka Prakash on August 25, 10 am at Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram. There will also be rendering of compositions of Narayana Theertha by Vrinda Acharya.

DANCE

Beautiful ensemble

Bhakti Nritya, a dance ensemble in classical bharatanatyam, based on the devotional compositions of Sri Adi Sankara, Purandara Dasa, Tulsi Das and other saint
poets, will be held on August 25, 7.30 pm at Sri Prasanna Ganapati Temple, 5th Block, Koramangala. It is performed by Padmaja, Subha, Maya, Nandini, Meghana,
Lakshmi, Sruthi and Kanakavalli, who are the disciples of K Kalyanasundaram.

‘Jugalbandi’

Jugalbandi, a three-day dance festival will be held on August 22, 23 and 24 at The Bangalore Gayana Samaja Auditorium, KR Road. On August 22, Satyanarayana Raju (bharatanatyam) and Ajay Kumar ( kuchipudi) and on August 23, Sharmila Mukherjee (odissi) and Soundarya Srivatsa (bharatanatyam) will perform. On August 24, Poornima Ashok (bharatanatyam) and Tushar Bhatt (kathak) will present their recitals.

DRAMA

‘Stories in...’

Bhoomija is presenting Sunil Shanbag’s ‘Stories in a Song’ on August 23, 8 pm at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield.

The concept, selection of music and composition are by Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan.

The actors weave the story of Indian music by brilliant singing on stage. Tickets are available on bookmyshow.com and at the venue.

‘Shakespeare...’

Shakespeare Manege Banda, written by Nataraj Huliyar and directed by Nataraj Honnavalli, will be staged on August 26 and 27, 7 pm. It is a post-modern play which is born out of an imaginary journey into the life and times of Shakespeare as well as a creative interpretation of his works. The play is in Kannada. Three plays

Rage (Mumbai) is presenting three plays at the Ranga Shankara from August 23 to 25.
‘The Love Letters’ will be staged on August 23 at 7.30 pm.

The play is written by AR Gurney and directed by Rahul Da Cunha. The cast consists of Shernaz Patel and Rajit Kapur.

‘Flowers’ will be staged on August 24, 3.30 and 7.30 pm. It is written by Girish Karnad, directed by Roysten Abel and performed by Rajit Kapur. ‘One on One’ will be staged on August 25, 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm. It is a unique theatrical evening, bringing together Mumbai’s finest actors, playwrights and directors. It is written by Ashok Mishra, Farhad Sorbajee, Oliver Beale, Purva Naresh and Rahul da Cunha.

The play is directed by Akarsh Khurana, Arghya Lahiri, Nadir Khan, Rahul da Cunha, Rajit Kapur and the cast consists of Anand Tiwari, Anu Menon, Amit Mistry, Neil Bhoopalam, Preetika Chawla, Rajit Kapur and Shernaz Patel.
