DANCE

Recital
The bharatanatyam rangapravesha of Nikitha PS, a disciple of Lalitha Srinivasan, will be held on August 3, 6 pm at Ravindra Kalakshetra, JC Road.

‘Ranga Natya...’
Lakshmi Kalaalayam is celebrating Ranga Natya Nivaha on August 2, 6 pm at the Indian
Institute of World Culture, Basavanagudi. The occasion is to celebrate Guru Rangashree’s three decades of dancing. There will be a dancing tribute by Aruna Bhargavi, Deepti Madhu Shanbhog and Sriya Srirangarajan.

Bharatanatyam
CS Manashvini is performing a bharatanatyam dance recital on August 3, 3 pm at Kannada Bhavan. She is a disciple of Padmini Ramachadran.

MUSIC

Carnatic choir


The ‘Children’s Carnatic Choir’, directed by Bombay Jayashri for Bhoomija, will have its opening performances on August 2 and 3, at MLR Conventional Centre, JP Nagar and Chowdaiah Memorial Hall respectively. The choir has 20 children between the age groups of 10 and 16. Tickets for the choir are available on book­myshow.com, indian­stage.in and mycity4­kids.com. Metal battle
Garage Jam is presenting a combination of doom metal band ‘Djinn’ and ‘Miskatonic’ alongside the technical death metal band ‘Dequma’ at Sonido Musicals, No. 78, Brigade Road on August 2, 6 pm.

Vocal tunes
A Hindustani vocal recital called ‘Singing Imagination’ by Warren Senders, will be held at
Bangalore International Centre, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur 2nd Stage on August 9, 6.30 pm.

‘Raganuraga’
The Kala Premi Foundation, on the occasion of its fifth anniversary, will present Raganuraga, a novel and unique exploration of ragas, on August 3, 6 pm.Shatavadhani R Ganesh will explain the features of the ragas and Ranjani Vasuki will sing and demonstrate the ragas. The venue is Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, Malleswaram. This programme gives an overall view of ragas for those uninitiated to classical music.

‘Sound Awake’
‘Sound Awake’, the electronic dance music festival, a platform for performances by top international artistes being presented by DNA Entertainment Networks Private Limited, will be held on August 4, Supernova Arena and Convention Centre, Yelahanka, Airport Road. The West London house duo, Max Reich and Simon Marlin of ‘The Shapeshifters’, will perform at the festival. With standout hits including the timeless ‘Lola’s Theme’, ‘Back To Basics’ and ‘Incredible’ and remixes for the likes of George Michael, Christina Aguilera, Moby and Natalie Imbruglia, among many others, the duo are stalwarts of British dance culture.


‘Yuva Chetana’
The Yuva Chetana 2 programme will be inaugurated on August 9, 5 pm at Our School, CA-15, 17th Main, 27th Cross, next to Police Station, Banashankari.
From 5.30 pm, there will be a vocal recital by Chandanabala Kalyan.
On August 10, 5.30 pm, there will be a vocal duet by ‘Bangalore Brothers’ vidwan M B Hariharan and S Ashok.
On August 11, 4 pm, there will be a vocal recital by Vrinda Acharya. At 6.45 pm, a veena recital will be
presented by Shubha Santosh, 6.45 pm.
The event is being presented by the  Suswaralaya College of Music.

Live act
A performance by Michael Devine will be held on August 2 and 9, from 7 pm at Aloft Bengaluru, off Whitefield Main Road.

‘Sunday Jam’
Freedom Jam is organising ‘Sunday Jam’ on August 7, from 3 pm to 8 pm, at Vivekananda Metro Station, Old Madras Road.It is a platform for musicians and bands of all genres who are interested in performing live.

Sarod magic
A sarod recital by Ustad Aashish Khan of the Maihar Seniya gharana will be held on August 3, 6 pm at the Indiranagar Sangeetha Sabha.
This will be the US-based Aashish Khan’s maiden concert in the City. He will be accompanied by Arijit Tagore on the tabla and pakhahwaj.

Classical delight
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will be presenting a Carnatic classical music (vocal) by Bharathi Venugopal under the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’ on August 2, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.

Progressive beats
American progressive house and electro house DJ, Morgan Page will perform at Pebble, Palace Grounds on August 3. Page has ignited crowds around the world and at crucial festivals such as ‘Coachella Arts And Valley Music Festival’, ‘Electric Daisy Carnival’, ‘Spring Awakening Festival’, ‘Electric Zoo’ and more.

‘Conversations...’
‘Conversations with the wind’ featuring Pablo Salcedo (pan flute) from Argentina and Amit Nadig (Carnatic flute), Muthu Kumar (tabla), Aman Mahajan (keyboard), featuring Priya Kalyanpur (Hindustani vocals), will be held at BFlat, Indiranagar on August 4, 8 pm.

Endowment event
As part of the ‘MS Hanumantha Rao Memorial Endowment Programme’, the launch of Devige, a collection of noteworthy lectures, and a veena recital by Suma Sudhindra will be held on August 3, 5 pm at ESV Hall, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Theatre workshop
Sanchari Theatre is organising a theatre workshop for children titled Balasanchari from August 4 at Sanchari Theatre, KH Kalasoudha, Hanumanthanagar. The classes will be held on Saturday between 3 pm and 6 pm and on Sunday, between 10 am and 1 pm. The classes will conclude with children presenting a performance.

‘Indian Diva’
The Bangalore auditions for the ‘Indian Diva 2013’ will be held on August 2.
The city auditions will culminate in the final round of auditions in Mumbai, where the lucky finalists will be shortlisted and selected to take part in ‘Indian Diva 2013’. The grand finale will be held in Mumbai.
The ‘Indian Diva 2013’ will compete in ‘Miss Universe 2013’, in November, in Moscow.

Poets’ meet
A Hindi Hasyakavi Sammelan is being presented by Jain Social Group at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall on August 11, 5.45 pm.

The musical screenings of Yashraj Heroines De Jayenge, Filmalini 100 and Chitrahaar will be held on August 2, 5 pm at Alliance Francaise.

Mixed treat
Ram Rahim Mahila Khadi Gramodyog Samiti is organising a ‘Cotton Silk and Craft Expo’ till August 4 at Safina Plaza. Silk saris, dress materials and handicraft products from all over India are on display. This include Mangalgiri and Venkatgiri silk, Kanjivaram silk, bandhni, patola, baluchari, bandhej, kosa silk, chintamani and kasauti.

ART

Impressive works Artist Milind Nayak is showcasing some of his best works till August 16.
The venue is The Studio, 26/2, between 1st and 2nd Cross, D’Costa Layout, Cooke Town.
The timing are from 11 am to 6 pm (Monday to Saturday) and from 2 pm to 6 pm (Sundays).

Unique meet

The ‘Art Congress’ will be held at Phoenix MarketCity, Whitefield Main Road, Mahadevapura from August 2 to 4. Artists Shivanand Basavanthappa, Revati Gangal, Kanthraj N , Sandhya K Sirsi, Archana Gupta and Shekhar Ballari will bring life to blank canvases on the occasion. Art lovers will also have the opportunity to buy the piece of art as it gets created.

Silence speaks
‘Of Sounds and Silences’, an exhibition of copper sculptures by Raviram Ramakrishnan, will be held at Galerie De’Arts, 11th floor, Barton Centre till August 8.

‘Sojourn’
‘Sojourn’, an exhibition of paintings by Surajit Chandra, will be held till August 3 at Gallery Time and Space, 55, Lavelle Road. The exhibition is open from 11 am to 7 pm. Surajit’s paintings deal with the elements of
nature.

‘Plot’
‘Plot’, an exhibition by Sreshta Rit Premnath, will be on display at Gallery­ske, Berlie Street, Langford Town, till August 24.

‘Looking In’
‘Looking In’, an exhibition of sculpture by Lalitha Shankar, will be on view till August 17, 10.30 am to 6 pm at Gallery Sumukha.

Cartoon time
The Indian Institute of Cartoonists is presenting Rama Baana, an exhibition of works by cartoonist R Krishnamurthy, popularly known as Ramadhyan till August 10 at the Indian Cartoon Gallery, No. 1, Midford House, Midford, Garden, off MG Road, Trinity Circle.

‘Many Worlds’
Kynkyny Art is presenting ‘Many Worlds’, featuring the mixed-media murals of Basuki Dasgupta at Kynkyny Art till August 14. A master of contemporary folk art, the Tumkur-based artist turns grand, weighty themes like folklore and mythology into abstract, quirky, almost minimalist images.

‘The Kitchen’

‘Shardho’
Rangaavataara will be staging a Tulu drama, Shardho, written by KE Radhakrishna, on August 2, 6 pm at KH Auditorium Hanumanthanagar. The cast includes Lakshmi Bhat and Veena Rao. Entry is free. 

Shadow play
‘The Nuisance of Hamlet’,  a shadow play by Yo­urs Truly Theatre Repertory, will be held on August 3, 3 pm. It is directed by Ranji David.
