DANCE

Kathak


Sweekruth BP will present a kathak recital as part of Ananya Nritya Neerajana-5 on November 22, 6.30 pm at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram. The Ananya Nritya Neerajana-5 will be held on November 22, 23 and 24.

Bharatanatyam

A bharatanatyam recital by Soumya Purohit will be held on November 22, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.

‘Kala-Nadam’

‘Prayog 4’

Nritarutya is presenting Prayog 4, an Indian Contemporary Dance Theatre production, at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall on November 22, 8 pm. Prayog 4 will feature three choreographies Matsyaangnaa and Trishanku, choreographed by Madhuri Upadhya, and Chakra choreographed by Sathya BG. Right moves

A belly-dancing extravaganza will be held as part of the sixth anniversary celebrations of the Sanaz Dance Studio at Alliance Francaise on November 24, 4 pm and 6 pm.

Kathakali

Bangalore Club for Kathakali and the Arts (BCKA), in association with Kairalee Kala Samithi, is organising a  kathakali performance on November 23, 5.45 pm at Kairalee Nilayam Auditorium, Vimanapura, HAL.

‘Songs of Love...’

Bhoomija is presenting ‘Songs of Love and Longing’ by Surupa Sen and Bijayani Satpathy of Nrityagram on November 22, 8 pm at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield.

‘Colour Splash’

‘Colour Splash’, an exhibition of artworks by Jennifer Ant­ony, will be held at Gallery 1, Chitrakala Par­ishat, from November 21 to 25.

‘Thoughtful Impressions’, a series of original masterpieces on reflection series, will be exhibited at Magnitude Gallery till November 30.


‘Prismatic’

A group show called ‘Prismatic’ will be held till November 24 at Chitrakala Parishat. Kishore Sahoo, an artist from Odisha, will present his acrylics on the theme ‘Perils of Materialism’, Remya Kumar, an architect-turned painter will display works celebrating ‘Nature’, Selva Senthil Kumar, an artist from Chennai, will exhibit his work reflecting on the ‘Water Crisis’ and Sheela Maradi, a fine-arts graduate will showcase works on 'The Fifth Element – Love’  influenced by the elements of nature.

Interesting strains

As part of MaathuKathe, ‘The Sarjapur Blues Band’ (SBB), consisting of Shekhar Seshadri (vocals and acoustic steel string guitar), Saumitra Mukherjee (vocal and acoustic nylon string guitar) and Vinoo Matthew (electric guitar), will perform on November 22, 7 pm at TheIndia Foundation Arts office, ‘Apurva’, Ground Floor, No. 259, 4th Cross, RMV 2nd Stage, 2nd Block.SBB is ‘an underground, eclectic, working man’s,
original, blues band from Bangalore. The evening will begin with a 20-minute-performance piece of dance theatre with the band, followed by music.

Electronic delight

Berlin-based electronic music and sound artiste Grischa Lichtenberger will present a concert on November 23, 7 pm at The Humming Tree. Entry is subject to Club rules. For details, call 25205305.

The UK superstars ‘Above & Beyond’, along with ‘Submerge’, will be performing as part of ‘Group Therapy India’, on November 22, 5.30 pm at Ezone, Marathahalli.

Priyanka C Prakash, is presenting a concert at Doddaballapur Sangeetha Sabha on November 23, 6.30 pm.
Priyanka is accompanied by Aditi Krishnaprakash on the violin and Ranjani Venkatesh on the mridangam.

‘Wired Paradise’, the Dutch jazz quartet, will be in concert on November 23 and 24, 8.30 pm at Windmills Craftworks.

BTM Cultural Academy is hosting ‘Grand Vocal Music Concerts’ on November 23 and 24 at 5.30 pm at Shree Ramana Maharshi Academy for the Blind, 3rd Cross, 3rd Phase, JP Nagar (near Ragigudda).

Urise Vedic Sangeetha Academy is presenting Tarang 2013, a music and dance festival, on November 21 and 22 at Nayana Auditorium, Ravindra Kalakshetra, JC Road.

‘Naada...’

Hamsakutira, headed by Geetha R Bhat, will present Naada Prayathna, a musical presentation by the students of Hamsakutira on November 21, 5.30 pm at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, Malleswaram.
The presentation will also showcase differently-abled students from the Sambhav Foundation.

‘Virasat’

Spic Macay is organising Virasat 2013, a concert by the Gundecha Brothers at the Indian Institute of Science on November 25, 5.30 pm.

‘Kanakadasara...’

Shree Sharada Samskrutika Sangha is organising the celebration of Kanakadasara Jayanthi
and Karthika Sangeetothsava from November 22 to 24, 6.30 pm. Vocal recitals will be presented by BR Geetha, Vivek Sadasivam and RA Dakshinamurthy.

Cartoon time

An exhibition of political cartoons, caricatures and illustrations by Suraj ‘Eskay’ Sriram will be held till November 23 at The Indian Institute of Cartoonists, Indian Cartoon Gallery, No. 1, Midford House, off MG Road, Trinity Circle.

‘Handmade...’

The 4th edition of the ‘Handmade Collective’ is on from November 27 to 30 at the Kochhar Institute, St John’s Church Road. For the first time this year, ‘The Handmade Installation Space’ alongside the ‘Handmade Collective’ has been set up, where individuals, communities and institutions can be part of this ‘Handmade Movement’ either for display or as part of a competition.  The prize-winning entries from each category will be displayed at the NGMA.

Rare compositions

Karnataka Bharatagama Prathistana, in association with Karnataka Sangeetha Nrutya Academy, Government of Karnataka, has organised a workshop in rare dance compositions in Kolar dance traditions under the guidance of Guru C Radhakrishna.

Documentary film

The screening of the documentary film ‘Silent Screams’ will be held on November 30, 6.30 pm at Bangalore International Centre, Teri Complex.

‘Fiction or...’

‘Fiction or reality’, a documentary film-making workshop with renowned German film-maker and video-artist Harun Farocki and curator, writer, artist Antje Ehmann, in collaboration with the ‘International Film Festival of Kerala’ will be held on December 9 (11.30 am to 4 pm) at Thiruvananthapuram. It presents a unique opportunity for film-makers, video-artists and film students to interact with one of the most innovative and dynamic contemporary film-makers.

It is open to film-makers, video artists and film students. There is no entry fee but registration is required.

Book launch

The book ‘Climate Change and Sustainability Issues’, authored by MS Nanjundiah, will be released at Khincha Hall, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, on November 21, 4.30 pm. This is being organised by MP Birla Institute of Management: Associate, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Southern Economist’s Students Study Circle.

Poetry reading

Bangalore International Centre is presenting the poetry-reading of ‘Crossing Black Waters’ by Athena Kashyap on November 29, 6.30 pm at the Bangalore International Centre Auditorium, Teri Complex, 4th Main, Domlur II Stage. The poetry reading will be followed by a conversation with Shoba Narayan, writer and columnist. ‘Crossing Black Waters’ consists of a series of inter-connected poems exploring borders and the concept of ‘home’. The book takes off from the notion of Kaala Paani, whereby Hindus who crossed the ‘black waters’ or oceans would lose their identity (caste), and explores this concept with respect to modern day migrations, forced or voluntary. Starting with the partition of India, the book explores migrations to the US, and then the concept of boundaries, geographical, metaphysical and poetical. For details, call 9886599675.

German course

The Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is offering weekday German language courses from January 3, 2014 and weekend German Language Courses from January 4 at its centre on Cunningham Road. ‘The Revivalist’s...’

Translate presents ‘The Revivalist’s Soul’, an exhibition of hand-woven Ikat by Vinita Passary, on November 22 and 23, 10.30 am to 7 pm, at Vermilion House, No 78/1, Benson Cross Road, Benson Town. It fuses the revived art of hand-woven ikat with popular uber-urban trends.
