‘Blink’


Soho Theatre and Nobokov will present a play ‘Blink’ by Phil Porter from November 29 to December 8 at Jagriti, Whitefield.

‘Between the...’

India Foundation for the Arts is presenting a play titled, ‘Between the Lines’ on December 19, 7.30 pm at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall.

The play features Nandita Das and Subodh Maskara in the lead roles.

‘Remembered...’

Soothing sound

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations is presenting Sugama Sangeet by Shekar S Katti on November 29, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road. This programme is a part
of the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’. 

Interesting mix

A concert by Lagori, a Hindi folk/rock band will be held on November 30, 8.30 pm at Bflat, Indiranagar.
This Bangalore-based band combines Indian classical melodies and inflections with rock music, resulting in an interesting mix that is high on energy, catchy and soulful. The band’s live act includes material from their first album, sung in Hindi and Kannada, and interesting covers and mash-up of music they are influenced by.

‘Sugama Sangeetha’

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Infosys Foundation is presenting Sugama Sangeetha by Gowthami S Murthy on November 28, 6 pm. A Carnatic vocal recital by Ragavan Manian and party will be held on November 29, 6.15 pm on the occasion of ‘Lakshmidevi and MS Ananthapadmanabha Rao and AV Anusuya and Kumari HS Suma Memorial Endowment Programme’. Both programmes will be held at The Indian Institute of World Culture, No 6, B P Wadia Road, Basavanagudi.  

Second edition

The second edition of ‘Sound Awake’ will be held on December 1 at Supernova Arena and Convention Centre, Yelahanka, Airport Road. This edition will feature performances by Steve Aoki, Congorock and Jacob Plant. Tickets are available on www.soundawakeindia.com and www.ticketgenie.in

‘Insurrection’ 

A metal show titled ‘Insurrection’ will be held on December 1, 2 pm at Ion Bar and Kitchen, Brigade Road, above Nilgiris. The show will feature metal bands like ‘Verses’, ‘The Down Troddence’, ‘D’jinn’ and ‘Miskatonik’ and ‘De’sat.’

Energetic show

There will be a concert by ‘Hammer N Thong’ on November 28, 8.30 pm at Hard Rock Cafe.
The concert will feature musicians Avril Quadros and Brian C Bangera. The band draws its influence from Sufi music, folk sounds, dubstep and electronica.

Paying tribute

Five well-known bands will pay a tribute to ‘Slayer’’s Jeff Hanneman, as part of ‘Garage Jam’, on November 29, 6 pm.
The venue is Sonido Musicals, opposite Catholic Club, Brigade Road.

Grand recital

Karaikudi Brothers
Traditional Veena Institute and Ananya is presenting a veena concert by Bhagyalakshmi Chandrasekhar on
November 30, 6 pm at Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram. She will be accompanied by C Chaluvaraju on the mridangam. The concert is being held to mark the fifth anniversary of Kalaimamani Rajeswari Padmanabhan.

Live act

A concert by Plaistow will be held on November 29, 9 pm Windmills Craftworks, 331 Road, 5B EPIP Zone, Whitefield.

Plaistow comprises Johann  Bourquenez on the piano, Vincent Ruiz on the double bass and Cyril Bondi on the drums. Kailash Ensemble, an Indo-Dutch fusion band, will perform on November 30, 9 pm.

The Kailash Ensemble includes Marien van Staalen on the cello, Lenneke van Staalen on
the violin, Heiko Dijker on the tabla and Sanne van der Horst and Marinke Visser on the cello.

Trio treat

The Bangalore School of Music is presenting a concert by ‘Trio Bircher Internationale’ on November 30, 7 pm at The Bangalore School of Music auditorium, RT Nagar. The trio includes Swiss Clarinet artiste Daniel Bircher, with Joelle De Jonge, French Cellist, and Indian pianist Bethel Tsuzu. They will be performing eight pieces by Max Bruch and ‘Serenade’ by Emil Hartmann written specially for this combination of Instruments. Beethoven’s ‘Piano Trio op 11’, also called the Gassenhauer will also be performed. Invitation cards are available at the Alliance Francaise cafe and The Bangalore School of Music. Unique show

The fourth edition of the ‘Handmade Collective’ is on till November 30 at the Kochhar Institute, St John’s Church Road. For the first time this year, ‘The Handmade Installation Space’ alongside the ‘Handmade Collective’ has been set up, where individuals, communities and institutions can be part of this ‘Handmade Movement’ either for display or as part of a competition. The prize-winning entries from each category will be displayed at the NGMA.

Workshop

‘Fiction or reality’, a documentary film-making workshop with renowned German film-maker and video-artist Harun Farocki and curator, writer, artist Antje Ehmann, in collaboration with the ‘International Film Festival of Kerala’ will be held on December 9 ( from 11.30 am to 4 pm) at Thiruvananthapuram. It presents a unique opportunity for film-makers, video-artists and film students to interact with one of the most innovative and dynamic contemporary film-makers. It is open to film-makers, video-artists and film students. There is no entry fee but registration is required. Klay Prep Schools is conducting ‘Klay Christmas Karnival’ on December 7 at Inner Circle Park Ground, in front of CSI Church, near Whitefield Forum Mall and Fab India. Poetry reading

Bangalore International Centre is presenting the poetry reading of ‘Crossing Black Waters’ by Athena Kashyap on November 29, 6.30 pm at the Bangalore International Centre Auditorium, Teri Complex, 4th main, Domlur II Stage. The poetry reading will be followed by a conversation with Shoba Narayan, writer and columnist. ‘Crossing Black Waters’ consists of a series of inter-connected poems exploring borders and the concept of ‘home’. The book takes off from the notion of Kaala Paani, whereby Hindus who crossed the ‘black waters’ or oceans would lose their identity (caste), and explores this concept with respect to modern day migrations, forced or voluntary. Film festival

Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is partnering with Experimenta Film Society, at the eighth edition of the ‘International Festival of Moving Image Art’. This year, the festival will take place at the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan. As part of the festival, an exhibition called ‘Beyond the One – A work in progress: Documentation of the film process’ by Anna Marziano, will be inaugurated on November 28, 7 pm. It will be on display from November 29 to December 1, 11 am to 8 pm, at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan. A video installation called ‘Sonata for Four Monitors’ (1968-1970) by Ludwig Schönherr will be presented by Marc Siegel on November 28, 8.30 pm at the same venue.

  ‘Improvised Sound – Instruments and Music’, a live performance by Niki Neecke/ Akio Suzuki/ Aki Onda/ The Indian Sonic Research Organisation will be held on November 30, 8 pm while an artist talk by actress Susanne Sachse ‘Ready for my next self display’ will be held on December 1, 2 pm. ‘Experimenta 2013’ — screenings and workshops — will be held from November 28 to December 1, 2 pm onwards at the same venue.

Puppet magic

‘About Ram’, a puppet show performance, will be held at Ranga Shankara on December 13, 11 am (only for children) and at 7.30 pm. On December 14 and 15, it will be held at 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm. This adaptation looks at Ram as a human being and not as God. Ravan is represented by a Tolu Bommalata shadow puppet, which emerges out of a shadow screen to battle with Ram. The show is performed by Avinash Yadav, Pawan Waghmare and Mohammad Shameem and directed by Anurupa Roy.

‘Silent Screams’

The screening of the documentary film ‘Silent Screams’ will be held on November 30, 6.30 pm at Bangalore International Centre, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II Stage. For details, call 9886599675.

Dance

‘Kannagiya...


Natya Niketan is presenting a dance-drama titled, Kannagiya Kaalandhuge, on December 3, 6.30 pm at Parampara Auditorium, Channammanakere, Banashankari. The dance-drama is choreographed by Revathi Narasimhan and presented by her disciples. The event is a part of the festival of classical choreography organised by Ponniah Lalitha Kala Academy.

‘Bala Vedike’

Bala Vedike, a dance performance by Atula Chandra Shekar, will be held on November 30, 4 pm at Cubbon Park.

Varied forms


Padams and Javalis, a musical and dance event, will be held on December 5, 6 pm at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, West Park Road, Malleswaram. The dancers will perform to different compositions, which will include a composition of Kshetrayya along with some javalis too.

The dancers are Poornima Ashok, Sathyanarayana Raju, Soundarya Srivatsa, Trupti Bhupen and Surya N Rao.
