My Child & I

Evening of Firstborn's first day of school . Family is seated for dinner.

Parent: "So, whom did you share your lunch at school today?"

Firstborn: " Nobody! (voice trembling) no one knows me, I have no friends."

Parent: " (consolingly) " But it's only the first day and you are new to the school. You'll very soon make a lot of friends, OK Kanna?"

Firstborn: (halfheartedly shakes head in agreement)


Firstborn rushes home in excitement the next afternoon.

Firstborn: "Amma! You know what, I have made a friend and his name is V!!!"

Mom: "That's so nice..."

Firstborn (interrupts): "But, wait! Yesterday you didn't pin my name badge, so he didn't know my name, so that's why I didn't make friends. Today he read my name and we are friends. So, don't forget my name badge, OK?

Mom: (halfheartedly shakes head in agreement)
