Freesbe: Celebrating Independence
FREESBE is a session focused to introduce children to their rights and responsibilities. Children will explore the ideas of freedom, sharing and equality through games, stories and activities. They will get a chance to experience the importance of independence and interdependence.

Joy of Giving Week 2012
It's that time of the year again when giving is back in season . The annual Joy of Giving Week—from October 2 to 8—is upon us, and people across the country are on to new ways of reaching out to society and practising goodwill.
The campaign , which launched in 2009 , has gained steam over the years and covered wide ground , not only in the number of people it has benefited through collective fundraising and varied acts of charity but also in the range of volunteers it has co-opted , from CEOs to chauffeurs .
Last year , The Joy of Giving Week , seven days of intensive philanthropy , accomplished the following feats : it rallied over one million volunteers to the causeof giving ;spreadtoover 70 cities, towns , even villages ; was assisted by about 1,700 schools and 250 colleges ; and managed to raise over Rs 30 crore in cash and kind.

World Melody Day 2012
India's ancient string instrument veena will be played by music maestros across the world Oct 2 to mark "World Melody Day", it was announced Sunday.
Violin maestro L. Subramaniam will unveil the worldwide show at National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) in Bangalore, while other maestros will play veena in Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Mysore, New Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram to usher in peace and harmony," Veena Foundation secretary-general V. Raghurama Ayyar said in a statement here.
Coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, the special event will be made a fitting tribute to the father of the nation as it aims at fostering harmony among the people across religions, castes and man-made barriers.
"Worldwide, the musical prayer will start from Melbourne and Sydney in Australia and conclude at New Jersey and San Francisco in the US after being played in Japan, Malaysia, Singapore in Asia, Oslo, Denmark and London in Europe," Ayyar said.
Noted musician Viswa Mohan Bhatt will string the instrument in San Francisco, while Ramnath and Gopinath Iyer will perform in Melbourne and Malathi Natarajan in Sydney.
T.N. Krishnan will be honoured at the New Delhi show with a special award to mark the occasion.
A 10-day 'Veena Mahotsava' will also be conducted by Bharat Veenalaya musicians at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha in Chennai from Oct 2-11.

Independence Day Celebrations at Phoenix Market City
Phoenix Market City has planned a gala
celebration on the occasion of Independence Day.
There are many stupendous performances which will be showcased thought out the day.
The well known Lourd Vijay of Lourd Vijay Dance studio would be performing Salsa. Phoenix will be presenting the famous Tanoura Dance performance by Egyptian artist Khaled who will steal everyone’s heart with his whirling round, doing unique tricks. Then there is an interactive Djembes (African drums) performance in which the audience also joins in the show using African percussion instruments. The drum group would orchestrate the individual contributions into one unified rhythm climaxing in a crescendo of sounds. Alive India will also be in concert at the courtyard, and the Blue Rando Electric Band will perform as part of the “Girls Gone Wild” held every Wednesday at Phoenix MarketCity.
There is also plenty of fun and games for Kids including interactive face painting, Caricature, Mehendi, and Clay modelling. Every child that walks into the mall that day goes back with a surprise gift. All in all, a great way to celebrate Independence Day for the whole family.

Screening of Gandhi Movie : The Prophet’s Journey
Gandhi — 20th Century’s Prophet was lost in the dark for 40 years. Today, the Gandhi Peace Foundation (GPC) has brought it to light. This unique documentary, made by A K Chettiar in the late 1930s, was once banned by the British. It will now be screened across 72 centres in India on January 30.

School Holidays
Boys are jumping on the couch , enjoying their new found holiday!
The school sent a note the previous afternoon that the following day is a holiday; much to the delight of the children but also to the dismay of parents and teachers.
The last couple of months have been dotted with several school closures, few per schedule which are welcome breaks but some suddenly scheduled which bring heart breaks.
The holiday downpours have been more unexpected than even the Bangalore clouds' downpour.
To give an idea, here's what November looked like
Nov 1 Kannada Rajyotsava
Nov 5 Diwali
Nov 17 Bakrid
Nov 24 Kanakadasa Jayanthi
And there was early dismissal for Children's Day on Nov 15.
Parents working out of home, run around like headless chicken looking for last minute child-care options, unless the child has a nanny or grandparent(s) at home. And parents who work/tend from home have to figure out an entertaining agenda for the holiday!
Teachers on the other hand, have portions to cover which would have to be otherwise rushed to be completed with the less available working days. And not to mention the shuffling and re-scheduling of unit tests/exams.
October was no different, there was Dussera holidays, Ayodhya Verdict hungama, Valmiki Day et al.
As much as I love having my children at home, I also love the time they spend at school with peers.
As much as I want for them to enjoy festivities, I also look forward to them doing class activities.
And as much as I crib, am still bracing myself for another hovering holiday!
