South Indian epic Silapathikaram (100-300 CE) is understood as a story of Kannagi's anklets, a story of vicious plotting by adulterous courtesans ,who are after Kovalan's wealth, which finally results in the death penalty of Kovalan. Kannagi the protagonist, is revered as an epitome of chastity, and a model for devotion towards her husband in spite of his adultery. In this play ordinary characters who were in the sidelines of the epic, start questioning and make an artistic attempt to transform the epic into their own story.The Music, dance, song and magic of lights transform the stage into epic times...With dialogues that resonate with current times and visuals that keeping moving from the current day to the epic, a theatrical space, that is used to wonder at established values of chastity and womanhood is created. They start to ask questions, we should currently have asked or have forgotten to ask in our times..

A ONE-DAY THEATRE APPRECIATION COURSE
Alliance Francaise de Bangalore in association with Bangalore Little Theatre At Alliance Française de Bangalore
Timings: 10.00 am to 5 pm
The programme is specially designed for Alliance Francaise by Bangalore Little Theatre, our cultural partner in the area of Theatre. BLT is the oldest and most widely respected theatre society in Bangalore. The Academy of Theatre Arts within BLT is devoted to a wide range of theatre development and educational activity, including a thrust programme for public outreach. In-house Theatre Appreciation courses of various durations are part of this public outreach programme, taken to a wide variety of institutions.
In keeping with its commitment to public outreach, BLT is offering this theatre appreciation workshop COMPLETELY FREE to all interested, on a first-come-served basis.
The programme at AF will be conducted by an experienced team from BLT, led by Vijay Padaki, a Theatre Educator with over fifty years of experience as an actor, director, designer and administrator. The sessions during the day will be interactive, and will include exercises, films and active participation by all present. The outline of coverage is given below
The programme is open to anybody interested in knowing more about the Theatre arts. Admission is free, but the seats are limited seats. All interested are requested to register early with AF or BLT by Monday November 26.
Tea and coffee will be provided in the breaks. Lunch arrangements are to be made by participants themselves.

Attendance annual awards 2012
Alliance Française is proud to culminate its 2012 Dance DISCourse series, (20th event in 3 years), with a gala performance by best of Bangalore dancers , who win the prestigious attendance 2012 awards.
Attendance is India’s only yearbook of dance. Its editor-publisher Prof. Ashish Mohan Khokar, in cultural partnership with Alliance Francaise de Bangalore, presents on Saturday, 1st Dec., 2012, 1830 hours, the eagerly awaited annual roll of honours in dance field, named after various iconic names in the dance field. This is the third year of such awards, earlier awards having been bestowed to Bangaloreans like Satya Raju, Praveen Kumar, Madhu Natraj, Murli Kalva and international name like Malaysian Ramli Ibrahim.
This year the awards have been increased to include three new categories: Dance Couples; Lifetime Contribution and Lifetime Achievement. 2012 Awardees are:
Ram Gopal Best Male Dancer Award to Dr SANJAY SHANTARAM
Mohan Khokar Overall Excellence Award to NAVTEJ SINGH JOHAR
Uday Shankar Choreography Award to SYED PASHA

Attendance LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD To Guru Dr Maya RAo.
The Awards are unique. It carries no purse or such token lip-service of appreciation but organizes seminars, participation in national festivals and international internship with known dance companies. 90% of awards are reserved for Bangaloreans or Karnataka-based dancers, to make their names reach out nationally and internationally. 75% of past awardees have immediately won prestigious national awards and recognition after receiving these honours, such is its credibility. The Jury remains secret and no canvassing is allowed. The awards thus are benchmark of excellence, as seen and taken note by reputed critics, editors, patrons and connoisseurs.
Attendance is in its 15th year of publication (www.attendance-india.com). The yearbook and awards have highest regard in dance fraternity. And are much sought after.

Bangalore’s Favourite Music School Celebrates 1st Anniversary 4.30 pm onwards.
It is now one year since Taaqademy – Bangalore’s favourite space to learn, create, play and record music - was founded. In that period, over 500 individuals between the ages of 5 and 55 have experienced its unique learning environment, interacted one-on-one with musicians from the city’s best-known bands, performed live for the first time on stage, and jammed and recorded in its world-class acoustically-treated rehearsal rooms.
Celebrating its first anniversary, Taaqademy will showcase its best talent – both students and faculty – at the ‘Taaqademy 1st Anniversary Festival’. With more than 14 acts (some of whom are all of eight years old) already on the bill, the Taaqademy 1st Anniversary Festival promises to be an audio-visual treat.
Founded by the acclaimed and multiple award-winning Bangalore band Thermal And A Quarter, Taaqademy was established with a simple goal: ‘Make Space for Music’. With structured and engaging curriculum, emphasis on fun and strong fundamentals, and a one-of-a-kind ‘jam n’ learn’ process, Taaqademy has allowed individuals with diverse backgrounds and musical ambitions to bring music into their lives in a meaningful, fun and ultimately rewarding way.
The Taaqademy Jam Room, one of the best equipped such facilities in the city, has hosted everyone from Food (Norway) to Raghu Dixit, Something Relevant (Mumbai) to Prasanna, Lou Majaw to Keith Peters, Luke Kenny to the Galeej Gurus.
Taaqademy currently offers regular, flexible courses in guitar, bass, voice, keyboards, drums and music production. Taaqademy faculty comprises some of the city’s best-known musicians (many with music degrees from prestigious institutions like the LA Music Academy), all active live performers with years of on-stage experience. Taaqademy is also the sole representative for Rockschool (music examination board from the UK) in South India.

Synopsis
While everything around seemed headed towards a slow collapse, in a shed on an island in the middle of a lake, two boys built their world. Twenty years later, it is quite another past that stands in their way.
Today, two whimsical narrators scramble madly to recreate what happened. Set against the background of the Kashmir imbroglio, ‘Gasha’ is an account of the fractured friendship between two boys, A Kashmiri Pandit and a Kashmiri Muslim , and their need to affirm their story.
Based on real stories, interviews and testimonials, Gasha has been devised at the Indian Ensemble over 2012.

A few words on this artist: Between 2003 and 2006, French conceptual artist Philippe Ramette created a series of gravity-defying photographs that show him in seemingly impossible poses. These illusions were not created digitally; they are visual illusions, or surreal photographs, made by French artist Philippe Ramette and photographer Marc Domage. His objective is to construct rationally pictures that look irrational.

Play Synopsis
Evam’s first ever play revolves around the friendship of Serge, Marc and Yvan, three close friends of longstanding, when Sarge indulges in his penchant for modern art by buying an expensive and almost completely white painting. Marc is horrified and describes the painting as “shit”, and their relationship suffers considerable strain. Yvan, caught in the middle, tries to please both of them, but his vacillation only adds fuel to the blazing row!
What follows, is seriously funny, the story’ll make you chuckle, nod in serious agreement, and think hard of yourself, and your best friends. ‘Art’ has strong reason for having been one of evam’s most popular plays over the years!

They say great Art survives years... ours has survived and thrived through the last 9, however great it may be!
This production of ours, our first, reminds us each time of the roots of 'evam' and its 'art' itself -- 'Art' lies in the eyes of its beholder, and that in itself is a journey complete. But sometimes 'Art' is created when a creator creates and becomes the beholder - the shortest and the most powerful journey... no more beholders but that one. 'evam' oscillates between these extremes, walking that fine line of making the world happy and keeping ourselves even more so...
Our production has become more bare and simple over the years - with the elimination of backstage and the actors becoming the only laborers through the process... 'ART by evam' celebrates its 10th year, and like the great writing has, may our production of it keep going, because we do need our reminders - that we are human and therefore we can forgive... we just need to know that.

Play Synopsis
Evam’s first ever play revolves around the friendship of Serge, Marc and Yvan, three close friends of longstanding, when Sarge indulges in his penchant for modern art by buying an expensive and almost completely white painting. Marc is horrified and describes the painting as “shit”, and their relationship suffers considerable strain. Yvan, caught in the middle, tries to please both of them, but his vacillation only adds fuel to the blazing row!
What follows, is seriously funny, the story’ll make you chuckle, nod in serious agreement, and think hard of yourself, and your best friends. ‘Art’ has strong reason for having been one of evam’s most popular plays over the years!

They say great Art survives years... ours has survived and thrived through the last 9, however great it may be!
This production of ours, our first, reminds us each time of the roots of 'evam' and its 'art' itself -- 'Art' lies in the eyes of its beholder, and that in itself is a journey complete. But sometimes 'Art' is created when a creator creates and becomes the beholder - the shortest and the most powerful journey... no more beholders but that one. 'evam' oscillates between these extremes, walking that fine line of making the world happy and keeping ourselves even more so...
Our production has become more bare and simple over the years - with the elimination of backstage and the actors becoming the only laborers through the process... 'ART by evam' celebrates its 10th year, and like the great writing has, may our production of it keep going, because we do need our reminders - that we are human and therefore we can forgive... we just need to know that.

– Children’s Cheering Carpet is the result of a brilliant collaboration
between the Italian theatre Compagnia TPO, Australian artists Lou
Bennett, Deon Hastie and Delwyn Mannix, along with Australian theatre
director and producer Jason Cross. The play is a co-production with
Teatro Metastasio Stabile della Toscana in Prato and Australian
production company Insite Arts.
Children
are invited to explore, play and dance with the performers as the
landscape unfolds around them, providing a unique immersive experience,
where the audience can become part of this visually beautiful journey.
This provides a unique experience for parents and teachers as they watch
the children become involved.

Stories in a Song
Stories in a Song is a musical collage of theatre, literature and history, which was conceived by Shubha Mudgal and was part of the Baaja Gaaja festival 2011.
Accounts of music making in India, and stories of the struggles and hardships faced by musicians both real and imaginary, lay the foundation for a collage of dramatized episodes that blend theatre, music and literature.
Several forms of theatre in India make abundant use of music, but Stories in a Song takes the help of theatre to tell stories of musical forms such as kajri, thumri-dadra, khayal, remixes and more.

This play is about birds and their habitat, this play is specially designed for kids above 5 years. this is a platform for kids to learn about nature’s complications.
Silent Theatre Laboratory (STL) was created for the sole purpose of setting a standard of professionalism, creativity and excellence in performing arts.
Susmitha & Nestlings is a vibrant, entertaining, and fun family play that carries with it a positive message of community building and cultural diversity.
For the first time in India STL has adopted mime, Clowning, Magic and Ballet into the talky stage play, Influenced by the silent film stars like Chaplin, and Keaton.
Marceau was the architect of a totally new style and tradition, the true creator and master of modern mime as we understand it today.
