Francophonie Festival at Alliance Francaise

 

Organised every year around the 20th of March, which is the « International Francophonie day», this event is the annual rendez-vous of the lovers of French language across the world.

“Tell me ten words … that you welcome”: an invitation to travel

This new theme enhances the capacity of the French language to welcome and integrate words from elsewhere. Trade, intellectual, cultural exchanges, migration, not to mention the media and, now, digital technologies have indeed put the French in contact with other languages. From elsewhere, they have now become from here. The richness of these exchanges gave the french language much of its accents and colors. The ability of french to recharge is undoubtedly a sign of vitality and a guarantee for its future.
The ten words of this new edition therefore invite you to travel: amalgame, bravo, cibler, grigri, inuit, kermesse, kitsch, sérendipité, wiki, zénitude! They come from Flemish, Italian, Hawaiian, Arabic or Inuktitut, these words reflect the hospitality of our language. More info on “Dis-moi dix mots” website.
The Alliance Francaise de Bangalore will offer, through range of events and contests with exciting prizes to be won, the occasion to discover and share the specificities of French languages from different French-speaking countries through literature, music, games and other surprises.

Through the week, there will be a mural placed in the lobby where students and the public are invited to write/draw/express themselves around the 10 words for 2015. There will also be projections of Francophone clips in the lobby during this period.

Rangleela 2015 Holi Bash in Bangalore is gearing up to soak the students and corporates in the garden city in colors this Holi.

Rangleela 2015 -Holi bash, would have everything needed to make this Holi festival etched in your memory.
The highlights of the event being - Bollywood Celebrity DJ Suketu, authentic Punjabi Dhol, Beat Gurus and Dj Guru to ensure that you groove your way into the colorful festival. The guests would enjoy rain dance and color filled artificial swimming pool while they dance on the feet thumping music extravaganza by DJ Suketu
The holi bash would kickstart at 11 in the morning on March 07, 2015 and would go on up to 5:00 in the evening. To ensure that your precious fun filled moments are captured for you to cherish, Rangleela 2015 will also have photo-booths assisted with professional photographers while you soak in the colors.
To ensure that the guests do not face any difficulty during the event in terms of security, around 50 bouncers/ security guards have been deputed who would ensure that the guests remain safe as they are soaked up in the colors.
Every guest would be provided with one pack of colors worth rupees 150 for free at the venue as a part of the event, which aims to bring together the entire student and corporate community through the fun filled and colorful event called Rangleela.
Apart from the arrangements in terms of security and numerous zones the event would also have Herbal colors and pichkari stalls, food and beverage stalls, Mehandi Tattoo Stalls, Whacky Party Props, Parking, Lockers and Green Room/shower facilities for the convenience of the guests.

Winter is the time to savour some of the best local food, served hot and fresh, so this weekend, you could head to the 15th edition of the Avarebele Mela, also known as the Avarekai Mela, which began on Friday.

 Avarekai or broad beanshyacinth beans are an important produce of Karnataka, and the annual mela has become a part of the city's culture along with others such as the Kadalekai Parishe of Basavanagudi, which gives peanut growers a chance to showcase their produce. Hosts of avarekai growers from Hunsur, Magadi, Mulbagal, Nagamangala and Bengaluru come to the Avarekai Mela to sell their produce without middlemen.
“The main attraction is the variety of dishes prepared using avarekai,“ says Geetha Shivakumar, the festival organizer.“Young people are attracted to fast food. We want them to know tasty snacks can be made using local, seasonal ingredients such as avarekai. Visitors can try out over 20 kinds of snacks and condiments made of this bean.'' In Karnataka, the bean is made into curry (avarekalu saaru), salad (avarekalu usli), added to upma (avarekalu uppittu), and as a flavouring to akki rotti. Sometimes the outer peel of the seed is taken out and the inner soft part is used for a variety of dishes. This form is called `hithakabele avarekalu', which means “pressed hyancinth bean“. According to Shivakumar, this time the mela will have dishes like hithakavare saaru (rasam made with the pressed bean), and many inno vative dishes not traditionally made with it, such as dosa, paayasa, holige, chikki, cake, jamoon, and flavoured snacks such as pepper hithakabele, pudina hithakabele, and garlic hithakabele.

“A special attraction this year is hithakavare halwa and hithakavare honey jalebi. We expect nearly 2,000 people to visit the mela daily. Nearly 3 to 4 tonnes of avare beans will be sold during the mela,“ says Shivakumar. The bean is not only a good source of energy (100 gm = 50 kCal) but also contains many B vitamins, and is high in elements such as calcium and magnesium.

There’s something for everyone at Forum Value Mall this weekend, there is a zone dedicated to stalls exclusive to bags, jewelry, furnishings, artifacts, portraits and T-shirts. These stalls will also be given a resplendent look in light of the festival heightening your joyous mood.

Any festival isn't complete without food, to satiate your appetite a zone is exclusively dedicated to mouthwatering delights from Rajdhani. Start at the finger licking chaat counter and make your way to the delicious samosa and kachori stalls. Indulge in the Holi drink Thandai or the infamous Masala Chai and wind up the festivities with some sweet treats such as hot jalebis and delectably dripping Mal Pua’s.

Furthermore, get your groove on with the Zumba and Bollywood dance sessions that will be held inside the atrium and conducted by Zealers Dance Studio, the sessions will be held twice between, 10 am-12:30 pm and 5 pm-7 pm. Forum Value Mall is certain to put the ‘fest’ into festival this weekend.
