The Debate Club presents The Bait ’13, a debate competition for high-school students

11 July '13 at Jagriti, Whitefield.

Jul 11. The Debate Club presents The Bait ’13, a debate competition for high-school students

The Debate Club, formed in 2010, consists of students from various institutions who are interested in spreading awareness that leads change. It’s annual event, The Bait, is a two-day debate competition for high-school students: providing a forum for the youth to analyse modern day issues, to question existing notions, and create a better world together.

Says, the Debate Club, “Debating plays a pivotal role in shaping a holistic worldview for young students world over. Debating is an excellent way to question the status quo and discover better solutions. We believe that in today’s world having an opinion is as essential as acquiring knowledge. There are many issues in India and around the globe which are often tabooed and rarely brought to light, but these are the issues that affect the common man and the world at large.

“We plan to address these global issues in our own little way. Unlike most common debate competitions, at Bait we discuss and debate such topics substantiated with references, data, and rational thinking to reach a logical consensus of both sides of the discussion. What’s more, our panel of judges are stalwarts in the respective fields of the discussion, dignitaries who challenged conventions, defied boundaries, and understand the intricacies of the issue from a microscopic to a macroscopic level.”

The Bait brings everybody one step closer to the utopia of realised free speech which is both liberal and secular. Through structured and organised debating, the event is an equal platform for participants to share their ideas, embrace each other’s perspectives and with a bucketful of information to take back for the audience, Bait promises to be a once-in-a-life-time opportunity for young debaters. Owing to a great response and stupendous success over the last three editions in Chennai, Bangalore and Coimbatore, the fourth edition, The Bait ’13 aims to go bigger and better.
