Go Skateboarding Day 2015
CELEBRATE ‘GO SKATEBOARDING DAY’WITH HOLYSTOKED IN BAGALORE
HolyStoked, the Bangalore based skateboarding collective is once again getting the skateboarding community together for the Go Skateboarding day. The 4th edition of HolyStoked’s initiative promises to be bigger and better.
Having started off as a collective of friends, HolyStoked has grown to include people of all age groups and demographics. This year, HolyStoked wants to bring the sport to mainstream Indian culture while still maintaining its alterative vibe. Holystoked is in talks with leading brands to collaborate on this year’s event.
HolyStoked believes that mainstream exposure is necessary for the sport to grow into the lifestyle that it universally is. Skateboarding is a sport like no other. The sport thrives on camaraderie amongst skaters. The Indian community is growing at a pace like never before. What started off with about 10 people in Bangalore has now grown far and wide with skate parks coming up in different parts of the Country including places like Kovalam and Ranchi to name a few.
Holystoked has also tried to reach out to the community at large. The organization encourages kids from BPL families to attend School by using skateboarding as an incentive. HolyStoked also reaches out to skateboarders in different cities by helping them build skate parks. Holysoked had the privilege of building India’s first free for all skatepark in association with Levis India with about 50 skateboarders from across the World joining them to help build it.

Activities:
o The DIY Booth: Skateboarders are given plain surfaces to showcase their graffiti skills
o The Highest Off the Wall Contest: This is the skateboarding Contest where participants have to take off from the Kicker Ramp.
o The HolyStoked Photo Contest: A competition where participants have to upload skateboarding photos from Freedom Park with the hash tag, “HolystokedGSD2015”. The Picture with the maximum likes wins goodies from Holystoked
5:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Skate-A-Thon, at Cubbon Park
o Fun and interactive activities at Cubbon Park to help expose the General Public to the nuances of Skateboarding including a sprint, a group run and skateboarders showcasing various tricks
6:00 PM onwards at The Vivekananda Metro Station, Old Madras Road.
The activities include:
o Best Trick: Skateboarders have to perform tricks using the kicker ramp and landing pad.
o And a quiz on skateboarding along with awards for various competitions held during the day.
o Popular videos/ documentaries on skateboarding will also be showcased.
o The day will end with a band performing for the audience
Join HolyStoked in celebrating a Culture on the 21st of June with skateboarders from across India showcasing their talent.

Carnatic Music: A voyage of sound and silence
For as long as I can remember!", says Abhishek, when asked since when he has been singing. Same answer from Anantha R Krishnan on since when he has been playing Mridangam. And both of them have always been up for challenges. So in June 2015, they team up to bring us an evening of pure melody and pure sound. In perfect harmony. It will be a first and an absolute pleasure to hear Abhishek with just the Tanpura and Mridangam. It will be a first for the duo to bring some creative rhythms into play, with Abhishek also picking up the Khanjira.
"Expect a lot of Carnatic music. That will be the theme", says Abhishek.

An Handicraft and #Handloom Exhibition cum sale

Arts and Crafts are the examples of our Indian heritage. Several handicraft techniques can be seen in different places of India. Every state has its own handicraft techniques for making art and craft products.
People who have been preserving the talent and the traditions of making Indian #handicrafts goods and the Government appreciate their efforts to keep classical art alive and rewarded by various National Awards. Time to time government organize exhibitions and crafts fairs to promote Indian Art and Crafts every year.
Abhimaan Craft Society is also one such organization where they help the Artisans to promote and sell their crarft based goods directly to the consumers in different places.
This exhibition has 60 stalls with Unique #artsandcrafts for sale from remote villages
The objectives of the Kala Sammelana is to provide direct market opportunites to rural artisan communities thereby eliminating the intermediary (middlemen) and to promote Cultural Tourism

Whitefield Parichay
So you think Whitefield is all about IT and ITPL? Come and join INTACH Bangalore's Parichay to the Old Settlement at Whitefield to see otherwise!

Conservation architect Krupa Rajangam will tell us more about the history of the settlement, while some residents of Whitefield will share with us their memories and stories of the place.

Lecture:The Rock-cut cave temples of Badami
Bangalore International Centre (A TERI Initiative) in association with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) presents 'The South India Heritage Lecture Series'
The first in the series will be a lecture on "The Rock-cut cave temples of Badami" by Smt Nalini Kembhavi interspersed with the screening of the IGNCA produced documentary film “The Talking Rocks of Badami – Rock-cut Sculptures of Badami Caves”.
About the Film
The film produced by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), explores the awesome rock cut sculpture of the Badami caves in the Bijapur district of Karnataka, created under Western Chaḷukya King Mangalesa in the Sixth century A.D. ‘The wonderful workmanship’, ‘atyadbhutakarmaviracitam’, is celebrated in the royal inscription of 579 A.D. Androgynous Shiva Ardhanarishvara, Harihara, Viṣhṇu Trivikrama, Bodhisattva Padamapāṇi, ornate and figured pillars provide examples of this workmanship.
About Mrs. Nalini S Kembhavi
Nalini graduated from Sir JJ College of Architecture in 1972 and partnered her husband in establishing the Kembhavi Architecture Foundation. She has been instrumental in strengthening the Dept. of Architecture in BVB College, Hubli and is an expert pedagogue at various institutions.

Rolling out the red carpet: An unhurried walk in the urban haven of Lalbagh.
Bangalore's most popular tourist destination, Lalbagh, is often thought of as a large boring park, which it may seem. Walk with us to discover the treasure that is Lalbagh, as we take you through the sand, stone and waters of Lalbagh, our Tipu Sultan's pleasure paradise!
Commissioned by Hyder Ali and completed by Tipu Sultan, Lalbagh was the ruler's personal garden, a statement of power and extravagance. Around one of Kempe Gowda's towers, Lalbagh has since acquired a large range of horticultural samples, a beautiful glass house and India's first lawn-clock. Today, it is not just a botanical garden but is also one of the few green spaces left in the increasingly polluted 'garden city'.
Join us as we step into pockets of silence and bloom right within the corporate jungle that is Bangalore. Listen to stories from the past, myths associated with the park and personal anecdotes that help understand Lalbagh better.

Since the capture of
Bangalore from the unwavering clutches of Tipu Sultan, several British
families have made Bangalore their home. The flourishing cantonment
north of the beautiful Cubbon Park was almost British in its making:
