Conversations/MaathuKathe: Talk by Ruchira Das.
Here, she shares her experience of homeschooling her two daughters where the arts became an integral part, the contrast between her chartered accountancy job and the arts, and much more.
About the Talk
Ruchira will talk about her journey in the arts which began as a student, organising concerts and performances. Later on, she quit her job as a chartered accountant to follow her heart and explore the world of the arts further. As she was homeschooling her children, she saw herself sharing experiences and engaging them in artistic activities. She then decided to launch Think Arts to extend these experiences to other children as well. The evening will also be interspersed with interesting tales from her travels, including a five-week trip this summer across festivals in Europe – Ruhrtriennale in Germany, Edinburgh festival in the UK, Ibsen festival in Norway and a few others where she wrote a blog to share her experiences with her children. She will also speak about her latest project which invites children to create an installation of their own.
ABOUT RUCHIRA
Ruchira Das is an arts administrator who quit her Chartered Accountancy career to become an educator in the arts. In 2013, she launched Think Arts to present and produce imaginative and out-of-the-box art experiences for children through performances and workshops.

Seva Cafe @ Paradigm Shift
At Seva Cafe, we serve with the spirit of "Atithi Devo Bhava" which translates to "The Guest is God," a deep and ancient Indian view that honors each guest with reverence. We're all used to the concept of offering a meal to family or a friend who visits our home, but at Seva Cafe, we extend this generosity to a stranger we don't even know. The guests are told we trust them to accept this gift and pay forward the generosity so that this experiment can continue.
When you dine at Seva Cafe, you are not viewed as a customer, but instead as our treasured guest, as part of our family.
Seva means service. When immersed in the heart of Seva, one finds a pathway to the Divine, and its this connectedness to which we ultimately aspire. Volunteering at Seva Cafe is a conscious exercise in staying tuned to that deep and true space of genuine service.
As more participate in the joy of giving, the more the experiment thrives. It begins with a single gift: first given, then received... multiplied, and given again, in a growing chain of kindness and care. We hope this Circle of Giving leaves you feeling more nourished, and inspired to carry the experiment forward.
All costs and income are made transparent, and 100% of any profits are used to support social service projects!
Paradigm Shift is super-excited to invite for Seva Cafe- 16th November, 2014 @13:00pm. Do come and be our guest!
And yes our rockstar friend Bhuwin Khursija will be performing.

About the film
When a small farming community in South India decided
to switch from their decades-old practice of chemical agriculture to
organic farming, little did they know that they were planting the seeds
of a silent revolution. By showcasing the exemplary efforts of farmers
of a tiny village (http://www.timbaktu.org) in Andhra Pradesh, the film
explores critical issues of food security and sovereignty. At its heart,
it looks at the relationship that a farmer shares with her land, her
seeds and raises vital questions about food, the very essence of human
life.
About the DirectorsRintu and Sushmit are award-winning filmmakers who have produced and directed films that explore issues of gender and sexuality, HIV AIDS, street children, disability, maternal and child health and environment. They founded Black Ticket Films, a film production agency that has been recognized for creating films with a unique visual language. Their films have been screened at various international film festivals as well as at global platforms like the UN Convention on Climate Change.
Mr. C K Ganguly (Bablu) & Mary Vattamattam
Bablu Ganguly and Mary Vattamattam have worked in the field of rural development for over 35 years. Between 1978 and 1990 they worked with Young India Project, a voluntary organisation working for rights of the agricultural labourers. In 1990, they co-founded the Timbaktu Collective. Bablu was awarded an Ashoka fellowship in 1994 for his work on regenerating and reforesting the common lands. Apart from the work with Timbaktu Collective, Bablu and Mary have also been actively involved in creating and nurturing several state and national level networks of voluntary organizations to support environmental and indigenous people's struggles.
About “Timbaktu Collective”
Initiated in 1990, the Timbaktu Collective has been attempting to respond to the desperate situation and agrarian crisis in 140 villages of Anantapur District in Andhra Pradesh. In 2008, as a natural extension of their work promoting organic farming, Timbaktu Collective helped to set up Dharani Farming and Marketing Mutually Aided Cooperative Society Ltd, a producer owned business enterprise, to procure, process and market the produce of its farmer members.
