‘Nam Thim...’ 
Vasp, the theatre group, is staging the play Nam Thim Thana on August 16, 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara. ‘Nam Thim Thana’ is a comedy with six short stories. It is a blend of few short stories by BeeChi and few taken from ‘BeeChi Bullets’, a book written by teachers of Rangayana.
 
 
Incredible strains
Nadasurabhi is holding the ‘Vaibhava Festival of Music’ to highlight the contribution of Karnataka in the field of Carnatic music through artistes from the State. The venue is Indian Heritage Academy Hall, 20th Main, 6th Block, Koramangala.

On August 17, 6 pm, Saralaya Sisters – Kavitha and Triveni – will present a vocal duet. 
On August 18, 6 pm, D Balakrishna and Vamshidhar will present a veena and venu recital.
On August 19, 6 pm, T S Sathyavathi will render a vocal recital.


Choir singing
The North-East Olive Branch Charitable Trust is presenting ‘The Independent Church of India (ICI) Central Choir’, winner of the ‘Best Choir Award’ from the entire north-east region to the City. They will perform on August 17, 6.30 pm at Bethel AG International Worship Centre, near Hebbal Ring Road flyover. On August 18, 6.30 pm, the performance will be at CSI Church, Kothanur, Hennur-Bagalur Main Road: and on August 19, 6 pm at Richmond Town Methodist Church.


ScreeningThe screening of Travelling Film South Asia (TFSA) films will be held on August 17 and 18, 6.30 pm at Bangalore International Centre, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II Stage.

On August 17, ‘Saving Dolma’ directed by Kesang Tseten from Nepal will be screened. The language is Nepali and Arabic. On the same day, ‘Kerosene’, directed by Kannan Arunasalam, from Sri Lanka in English and Tamil will be screened. Watch ‘Partners in Crime’ by Paromita Vohra on August 18.

The language is English and Hindi. On the same day, ‘Tres Tristes Tigres’ ( ‘Three Sad Tigers’) by David Munoz from Bangladesh will be screened. The language is

Bharatanatyam
Prakruthi L S  will be performing a bharatanatyam recital on August 17, 6 pm at Khincha Auditorium. The dance is a part of the Bhavan’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

‘A Walk in...’
Louis Philippe, in support of India Foundation for the Arts, will present the Bangalore premiere of the English play ‘A Walk in the Woods’, featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Rajit Kapoor, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on August 17, 7.30 pm. It is written by  American playwright Lee Blessing and directed by Ratna Pathak Shah. The play, produced by Motley, is an adaptation of Blessing’s work of the same name. The play also marks Ratna’s directorial debut. ‘Polished Bottoms’
‘Polished Bottoms’ will be staged on August 17, 8 pm at Jagriti, Whitefield. Sanjay Manaktala, Praveen Kumar and Sundeep Rao promise to entertain the audience with this comedy show.
 
‘Freedom Jam’
The ‘17th Annual Freedom Jam’, a free music festival, will be held on August 18 and 19. There will be 65 different musical acts of all different styles. The electric sessions will be held at GO Desi, near Peenya Police Station, off Tumkur Road on August 18 and 19, 11am to 9 pm. It will have rock and metal bands  — ‘Lucid Dreams’, ‘Audiofile’, ‘SilverJar’, ‘DeSat’, ‘Velvet Trap’, ‘Indus Valley Project’, ‘Xector’, ‘Rainburn’, ‘Groove Chutney’, ‘Mystix’, ‘Azuric’, ‘Acid Quartet’ and many more. 

 Solo concert
As part of the Dramatic Ragas, Tara Kini will present a solo concert on August 18, 6.30 pm at Jagriti, Whitefield. Tara has been involved with music on many levels including composition of music for the stage, conducting music workshops and performing. Tara will be accompanied on tabla by Shashibhushan Gurjar, pakhavaj by Dnyaneshwar Deshmukh and tanpura by Dipti Rao. 

Veena notes
A veena recital by R A Dakshina Murthy will be held on August 18, 6 pm at Sri Dattatreya Temple premises, Thyagarajanagar. It is organised by Sangeetha Krupa Kuteera. Murthy will be accompanied on mridangam by G S Nagaraj and morsing by Ajay Srinivasa Murthy.





Marathi act
Karhade Mitra Mandal, a socio-cultural organisation, is presenting the Marathi musical drama Sangeet Maanapaman, written by Kakasaheb Khadilkar, on August 19, 10.15 am at Ravindra Kalakshetra. This is a 100 year-old-play and was initially popularised by the legendary Balagandharva. Classical vocalist Rahul Deshpande has now revived it.

Comedy time
The Kannada-based theatre group Some Some Kala Samsthe is staging Muddanna Promotion Prasanga, a comedy written by Rajendra Karanth and directed by B S Ramamurthy, on August 20, 7 pm.  The play will be performed at Hanumanthanagar. For details, call 9986911321.

‘The Snow Queen’
‘The Snow Queen’ will be staged at Ranga Shankara on August 21 and  22 at 7.30 pm.
The play is produced by the Unicorn Theatre, UK’s flagship theatre for young audience, with support from the British Council in association with Trestle Theatre.

The play is open for 6-year-olds and above and tickets are available on bookmyshow.com and indianstage.in

Myriad expressions
Sri Padmavathi Kala Nikethan Institute of Fine Arts of Mathikere Layout is celebrating ‘Bharath Nrithya Darshan 2012’ with bharatanatyam, kuchipudi, odissi and kathak recitals on August 23, 6 pm at Seva Sadan, opposite MLA College, 14th Cross, Malleswaram.

The performances include bharatanatyam by the ‘Rasika’ troupe, odissi by Madhulita Mohapatra and her troupe, kuchupudi by Padmapriya Praveen and Manjula Palla and kathak by artistes of Kalpana School of Dance. Entry is free.



Vocal recitalA Hindustani vocal recital by Priya Purushothaman will be held on August 24, 6.30 pm at Bangalore International Centre, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II Stage.


Cottage Mela’
A ‘Cottage Mela’ is being organised by the Central Cottage Industries Emporium (CCIE) till August 26 at Safina Plaza, Infantry road.

The ‘Mela’ provides an opportunity to behold the rich and varied art and craft traditions of India’s culturally enriched regions.  Jewellery, art objects, paintings, metal ware, woodcraft, furniture, lamps, pottery, women’s and men’s wear, saris, shawls, accessories, dress fabrics, marble craft, herbal products are on display.

Creative writing

‘The Smiling Line’
As part of its fifth anniversary, the Indian Cartoon Gallery, No 1, Midford House, Midford Garden, off MG Road, is holding a mega cartoon exhibition. The exhibition will be open to public till September 1.
