Ganesha Chaturthi Program:
Manava Seva Kendra celebrates Ganesha Chaturthi at MSK - Uttari on September 19, 2012.

Carnatic Music Concert by 'Sangeetha Saraswathi' Sri. Abhishek Raghuram accompanied on the violin by Sri Mysore Srikanth and on the mridangam by Sri. Jayachandra Rao.

Vocal strains
Nadasurabhi Cultural Association, in association with Suswaralaya College of Music Jayanagar, will be holding a concert on September 16, 4.15 pm at The Indian Heritage Academy Hall, 6th Block, near Police Station, Koramangala.
A grand vocal recital will be presented by S K Anil Murthy. He will be accompanied by Mathur R Srinidhi, K U Jayachandra Rao and Anirudh Bhat. 

Workshop

Ninada and Ananya will present a two-day workshop on ‘Creativity in Carnatic Music’ by T V Gopalakrishnan, supported by Devi Nethiyar, on September 22 and 23, 10 am to 4 pm at Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram. On September 22, 6 pm, a lecture concert by T V Gopalakrishnan on ‘Mridangam Accompaniment — The Art’ will be presented. He will be accompanied on vocals by C K Pavandeep and R Pavan. Nalina Mohan will be on violin. Gopalakrishnan will be felicitated on September 23, 4 pm.

Unique concept
Nammolagina Purana Patragalu — a musical concept and presentation— by Y V Gunu Rao and Sridevi Garthikere, will be held on September 15, 6.30 pm at Seva Sadan Auditorium, Malleswaram.

Talk

Bangalore International Centre has arranged a talk by Kuldip Nayar, renowned journalist, on ‘Is Indian Democracy in Danger?’ at Bangalore International Centre, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II Stage, on September 14, 6 pm. For details, call 9886599675.

‘Balle Balle’

The All India Movement (AIM) for Seva will present ‘Mela for a Cause’ – Balle Balle on September 22 at St Mark’s Cathedral, M G Road, 10 am to 8 pm.

The fundraiser for AIM for Seva will be a celebration, in the spirit of national integration, and will showcase and trace the vibrant culture of Punjab. AIM for Seva provides 94 free student homes for rural and tribal children across 15 states with a focus on education. At Balle Balle, there will be a variety of activities both on and off the stage, including musicians playing the dhol (drums) to awaken the soul and transport one to a village in Punjab. On display
As part of Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava, Shree Vidyaranya Yuvaka Sangha is presenting a 50-ft wide and 14-ft tall intricately sculpted sand Ganesha at Sri Mallikarjuna Temple Grounds, Basavanagudi from September 19 to 29.

Artists Ranjan Ganguly and Omprakash Barik from Puri, Orissa, along with his team, have used 25 truck loads of sand to give life to this one-of-a-kind sand sculpture.

ART

‘Navrang’
Magnitude Gallery is presenting, ‘Navrang’, a pot-pourri of Indian festivals on canvas. The collection comprises original paintings that depict festivals like Sankranthi, Dussera, Deepawali, Christmas, Ramzan and many more on acrylic and mixed media. The artists who have contributed to this collection are Vanil, Siddhu, Manjula and team. The venue is Magnitude Gallery, No. 140/13, 27th cross, 3rd Block, Jayanagar.


Interesting strokes
Gallery Time and Space is exhibiting the paintings of Yuriko Lochan, an artist who has adapted the traditional Japanese genre to suit her contemporary sensibility in the City. The paintings will be on view at Gallery Time and Space, 55 Lavelle Road till September 22, 11 am to 7 pm.

‘Un collectif’
Alliance Française de Bangalore and Habitart present an art exhibition called ‘Un collectif’. Works will be on display at Alliance Francaise between 10 am and 7 pm from September 20 to 30. The exhibition will feature man works.

DRAMA

‘Death and...’
Ariel Dorfman’s ‘Death and The Maiden’, a South American political thriller, will be staged at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield from September 14 to 23.

It traverses the personal and the political, powerfully cutting across geographical and cultural divides. It is directed by Ashish Sen.

From Tuesday to Saturday, it will be staged at 8 pm and on Sunday, 3 pm and 6.30 pm.

‘Bechara Maara...’
Mashaal Theatre Group will present Bechara Maara Gaya on September 16, 5 pm and 8 pm, at Alliance Francaise. It is adapted from Dario Fo’s ‘Accidental Death of an Anarchist’. ‘The Prelude’
Our Theatre is presenting ‘The Prelude’ on September 18 and 19, 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara.

DANCE

‘Arangetram’
Lakshmi Ramesh is presenting her bharatanatyam ‘arangetram’ on September 16, 6 pm at JSS Auditorium, 1st Main Road, 38th Cross, Jayanagar 8th Block. Lakshmi is the disciple of Sumitra Nitin. N Murali, president, The Music Academy Madras, and Sangita Kala Acharya guru Radha will be the chief guests on the occasion.

‘Bharatanrityam’
Bharatanrityasala is presenting an evening of ‘Bharatanrityam’, dedicated to late Sundari Santhanam, and presided by Padma Subrahmanyam, on September 14, 7 pm at ADA Rangamandira. There will be performances by Harini Santhanam, Namitha B Rao, Deeksha Shastry and Nayana R Somayaji.  

Fine recital
A bharatanatyam dance recital by Kalyani S Kumar from Mysore will be held on September 14, 6.30 pm, under the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’ at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road. This is being organised by the ICCR.

In memory
Kalakshithi School of Fine Arts is presenting ‘Bharathanatya Marga’, in memory of Rukmini Devi Arundale, on September 15, 5.30 pm at JSS Mahavidyapeetha Auditorium, Shivarathreeswara Centre, JSS Auditorium, I Main, 8th Block, Jayanagar. The programme will showcase a variety of compositions of Rukmini Devi performed by senior students of Kalakshithi.

Graceful moves
Matangi N Prasan is performing a bharatanatyam recital on September 21, 6 pm at Nayana Auditorium, Kannada Bhavana, J C Road. She is a disciple of Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran. The performance is a part of the ‘Ankura festival of Dance’, organised by Karnataka Nritya Kala Parishath. 

Epic stories
‘Kalasinchanam – Centre for Learning Bharatanatyam’ will present Krishnaleelamruta, a
dance feature portraying three stages in the stories of Sri Krishna, on September 21, 6 pm at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road. Students of Yamini Muthanna, the artistic director of Kalasinchanam, will present the epic stories of Bhalya Kanda, which is about the fun-filled childhood years of Krishna with all his adorable pranks. They will also present Yuva Kanda, which has Rasaleela, Kamsa Chanura Mardhana, Rukmini Kalayana, Draupadi Mana Rakshana; and Yudha Kanda, where Krishna will show his true form or Vishwaroopa Darshana. The script is by N Gopala Krishna Udupa.

The music is mingled with swaras and jathis, composed by Ramesh Chadaga and D V Prasanna. It has a flow of Karnataka’s favourite Dasa Krithis. The choreography is by Yamini Muthanna.

Intricate footwork
Priyanka Vardhini is presenting a bharatanatyam recital on September 14, 6.30 pm at Venugopala Swamy Temple, Malleswaram. This performance is part of the Gokulashtami celebrations.

Striking gestures
Radhika Ramanujan is presenting a bharatanatyam recital on September 18, 6.30 pm. The venue is Sri Venugopala Krishnaswamy Temple, 11th Cross, Malleswaram. The performance is a part of the Gokulashtami Music Dance Festival. 

Myriad forms
As part of ‘BIAF Celebrates Harmony Through Arts’, a folk festival by dance troupes from Sri Lanka, Rwanda, Assam, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur and Karnataka will be held at Freedom Park, Sheshadri Road on September 16, 6.30 pm. For details, call 7760498077.
