Vastrabharana, the flagship fund-raiser event of the
Crafts Council of Karnataka, turns 20 this year and is back in the city
with a bigger, better 2012 edition.
Jaya Bachchan,
Veteran actor and MP, will inaugurate the event on Saturday Sep 29 at 11 a.m.
at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath , Bangalore.
This year, over 38 master weavers/printers from across the country will participate and runs until Oct 3.
Jewellery up for grabs
Apart
from handcrafted textiles and handicrafts, semi-precious, handcrafted,
silver jewellery and south Indian Jadau ornaments in gold will also be

a particular textile tradition each year, this time the focus will be
on Lambani embroidery handcrafted by the Sandur Kushala Kala Kendra
craftspersons on cotton Gadag saris.
Lalchand Chippa from Rajasthan, a National Award winner, is also bringing an exclusive range of saris for this event.
Vastrabharana
loyalists are in for a treat as the Dabu prints with natural dyes are
being created exclusively for them. Also on the shelves are Pochampally
hand-woven ikat, Kornad textiles from Tamil Nadu, Varanasi weaves,
Laheriyas from Jaipur, tussars from West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and
Madhya Pradesh and Mangalagiri saris from Andhra Pradesh, among others.
