DRAMA Romantic comedy

WeMove Theatre is presenting, ‘P. S. I don’t love you’, a romantic comedy, on November 1, 7.30 pm at Alliance Francaise. The play is based on a couple who plan to spoil their own wedding. On stage

The ‘Ranga Shankara Theatre Festival’ will be held from October 27 to November 11. This year, the theme celebrates William Shakespeare. In store at the festival are productions from different corners of the world and two from India.

From Mumbai, there are Atul Kumar’s ‘Twelfth Night’ and Sunil Shanbag’s ‘All’s Well That Ends Well’. And from overseas, the plays include Dhaka Theatre’s ‘The Tempest’ from Bangladesh; and Marjanishvili’s ‘As You Like It’ from Georgia. The opening ceremony  will usher in the festival with a theatrical ensemble that will feature renowned theatre personalities.

There will be a sonnet recitation evening, screenings of two films based on his work, arts’ appreciation course, solo performances by renowned theatre personalities, a poster-design competition, Shakespeare readings in the parks and more. For details, call 9742478886.

‘Valley Song’ 

An English play titled, ‘Valley Song’ will be performed at Jagriti, Whitefield from October 26 to November 4 at 8 pm (Tuesday to Saturday) and 3 pm and 6.30 pm on Sunday. The show is suitable for those above 12 years. It is set against the backdrop of post-apartheid South Africa. The cast include Jagdish Raja and Rebecca Spurgeon. It is directed by Arundhati Raja and music is by Sankarshan Kini.

POT POURRIJewel world

‘The Jewels of India’, an exhibition-cum-sale, is being held from October 27 to 29 at St Joseph’s Indian High School, Vittal Mallya Road, next to Kanteerava Stadium.

The exhibition will feature participation by 102 jewellers from across the country. Actress Sumalatha Ambareesh is the brand ambassador. The display will include a splendid range of jewellery in latest designs and trends.

Music
Piano magic

International Music and Art Society is presenting a classical piano recital by Orietta Caianello on November 2, 7.15 pm at Alliance Française.

Orietta will play an unusual and interesting set of tunes of only women composers — Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn and others.

Tickets will be available from October 26 at Alliance Française. 

Several steps

The International Centre for Performing Arts is presenting an ‘October Dance and Music Festival’ on October 28 (11 am to 9.30 pm) and 29 (11 am to 8.45 pm). The venue is Government First Grade Degree College auditorium, near NES bus stand, opposite Yelahanka police station. The two-day festival will feature a kathakali lecture demonstration by Kalamandalam
Ettumanoor Kannan; mohiniyattam by Sangeetha Iyer and kathakali by Kalamandalam Ettumanoor Kannan and Kalamandalam Hari R Nair. There will also be an odissi recital by Vandana Supriya, bharatanatyam by Kamalakesheva and kuchipudi by Kavitha. For details, call 9902171819.

‘Dasarapadagalu’

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, in association with Infosys Foundation, is presenting Dasarapadagalu by Venkatesh Sharma on October 25, 6 pm at the Indian Institute of World Culture, B P Wadia Road, Basavanagudi.

Vocal recital

BTM Cultural Academy is presenting a ‘Grand Music Festival’ on October 27, 5.30 pm at Shree Ramana Maharshi Academy for the Blind, 3rd cross, 3rd phase, J P Nagar (near Ragigudda). The festival will feature a vocal recital by Aishwarya Vidya Raghunath. Aishwarya will be accompanied by Nalina Mohan on the violin, V Krishna on the mridangam and Venkatesh Betta on the ghatam.

Melodious sound

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations is presenting an evening of Carnatic music by Radhika Venkat Ramana on October 26, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road. This programme is a part of the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’.

‘Quintessence’

The Bangalore School of Music is presenting a ‘Quintessence’, an evening of chamber music in consort, on November 3, 7 pm at Alliance Francaise. The 75-minute programme will feature duets and trios by Paulette DeMello on the flute, Stuart Potter from the US on the bassoon and Daniel Bircher from Switzerland on the clarinet accompanied by Rebecca Thomas and Berenice da Gama Rose on the piano. Veena tunes

Ananya  is presenting a veena recital by Yogavandana, accompanied by V S Rajagopal (mridangam) and Raghavendra Prakash (ghatam) on October 27, 6.30 pm. The venue is Ananya Sabhangana , 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram.

Oktoberfest’

Vivanta by Taj, in association with the Indo-German Cultural Society, is presenting, ‘Oktoberfest’ on Oc­t­o­ber 27, 7 pm and 11.30 pm at the Trinity Hall.

The celebrations will replicate the world’s most famous Bavarian ‘Oktoberfest’ with German food specialties, vibrant and eclectic musical performance by Reisbacher Musikanten — a 21-member band, especially flown in from Bavaria.

Rock on

‘Vladivar Rock ‘N India Concert’ will feature a performance by Carlos Santana at Bhartiya City on October 26. Carlos Santana’s line up for his India gig will include his Latin-infused, multi-genre hit singles – ‘Black Magic Woman’, ‘Smooth’, ‘Evil Ways’, ‘Dance Into The Night’, Oye Como Va, ‘Maria Maria’, ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ and many more.

Celebration time

Suswaralaya College of Music, in association with Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, is organising its 13th anniversary celebrations from November 1 to 4 at No 12, 28th Cross,Geetha Colony,4th Block, Jayanagar.

There will be a performance by vocalist M S Sheela on November 1, 9.30 am. She will be accompanied by Vasudeva Rao on the mridangam. Audio CDs and a book titled, Sulabhavallavo Mahananda — Mundiges of Haridasas will be released on the occasion. For details, call 26633623.

Keshava Samskruthi Sabha is presenting a Carnatic classical music and bharatanatyam recital by Vivek V Krishna and Aranya Narain respectively on October 27, 6.15 pm at No 556, Samskruthi Bhavan, 11 Main, ISRO Layout.

Pratibha Naatyalaya is presenting the bharatanatyam rangapravesha of Pratibha Kini, a disciple of Prabha Kini, on November 3, 6 pm at ADA Rangamandira.

Ananya is presenting Ananya Nrithyollasa-5 in the City. On the occasion, bharatanatyam recitals by Bhargavi Prasam, Preethi Bharadwaj, Susheela Mehta will be held on October 28, 6 pm at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, Malleswaram.

Scottish delight

British Council is presenting a, ‘Scottish Dance Theatre India Tour 2012’ on October 25, 7.30 pm at Chowdiah Hall. The tour will feature two performances by UK and international choreographers. The first is 33-minute performance titled ‘Luxuria’, choreographed by Liv Lorent. The second one is called, ‘Drift’ and is choreographed by James Wilton and ‘DOG’, choreographed by Hofesh Shechter.
