Photo exhibition
B N P Paribas will be presenting ‘Women Changing India’, a photo exhibition at the Chitrakala Parishat, till October 20, from 10.30 am to 7.30 pm. On display are the works of six acclaimed ‘Magnum’ photographers — Martine Franck, Alex Webb, Patrick Zachmann, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Olivia Arthur and Raghu Rai — who have documented the changing roles, aspirations, opportunities and challenges that Indian women face, whether they live in villages or cities.
Great acts
The ‘Ranga Shankara Theatre Festival’ will be held from October 27 to November 11. This year, the theme celebrates William Shakespeare. In store at the festival are productions from different corners of the world and two from India.
From Mumbai, there are Atul Kumar’s ‘Twelfth Night’ and Sunil Shanbag’s ‘All’s Well That Ends Well’. And from overseas, the plays include Dhaka Theatre’s ‘The Tempest’ from Bangladesh; and Marjanishvili’s ‘As You Like It’ from Georgia.
The opening ceremony will usher in the festival with a theatrical ensemble that will feature renowned theatre personalities. There will be a sonnet recitation evening, screenings of two films based on his work, arts appreciation course, solo performances by renowned theatre personalities, a poster-design competition, Shakespeare readings in the parks and more. ‘Nothing Like...’
‘Nothing Like Anything’, a stand-up comedy, starring Kunal Roy Kapoor (‘Delhi Belly’) and Anuvab Pal (‘Loins of Punjab’), will be presented on October 19 at Alila Hotel and Residence, Whitefield and on October 20 at Park Hotel, M G Road. Both the shows will be at 7.30 pm.
The topics will range from reality television, fashion lingo and the noveau riche to the various other absurdities modern India has to offer. Passes of Rs 1,200 per person is inclusive of food and beverages.

Jagriti Theatre in Whitefield will host a Carnatic music concert on October 20. Keerthana Vaidyanathan, a student of Bombay Jayashri, will sing at 6.30 pm. French musician Frédéric Pelassy will present a recital on October 31, 7.30 pm at Alliance Francaise. This violinist is among the most feted French artistes in the international music world. In a career spanning 20 years, he has performed in more than 50 countries in all continents. He is said to be a great romantic capable of uplifting music to celestial spheres. In France as well as in Germany and the USA, his Beethoven and Brahms renditions have been saluted as exemplary. The musical evening will feature Jean Sébastien Bach, Sergeî Prokofiev, Darius Milhaud, Jules Massenet, Jacques Ibert, Eugène Ysaye and Nicolo Paganini. Entry is free.

‘Nayani’
Nayani, a dance programme from Raadha Kalpa Visual and Performing Arts Production, will be held on October 19, 7 pm at Chowdiah Hall. It is being presented by ‘Heritage’, an NGO, and is a benefit show to support the less privileged in rural India.
The dancers are Parshwanath Upadhye, Pavitra Bhat, Shruti Gopal, Surabhi Bharadwaj and Suhail Bhan. It is a newly choreographed bharatanatyam show, currently being presented across 10 cities in the USA. The choreography, script and direction of the dance programme is by Rukmini Vijayakumar. Music is by Tirumale Srinivas, story is by Vijayalakshmi V and lighting by Arun Murthy.
