Fine comedy

‘Chapter 2’, by Neil Simon, will be staged on November 24 and 25 at Alliance Francaise. ‘Chapter Two’ is one of Neil Simon’s finest comedies and is an autobiographical peek into Neil Simon’s coming to terms with the death of his wife which was followed by his love affair and subsequent marriage to actress Marsha Mason.

Festival time


Antharanga is presenting a five-day theatre festival, till November 25, 6.15 pm at K H Kalasoudha, Hanumantha Nagar. Leading theatre troupes like Benaka, Antharanga, ‘Green Room Club’, Rangavismaya and Ranga Niranthara will perform on the occasion. For details, call 26671585.

‘Saltbush’

‘Saltbush — Children’s Cheering Carpet’, an Australian theatre performance for children, will be staged at the Ranga Shankara till November 23. ‘Saltbush’ is an educational performance piece presented through the use of a touch-sensitive floor and infra-red imaging technology that triggers images and sound.

Veena strains

D Subbaramaiah Fine Arts Trust isorganising a Carnatic veena recital by Suma Sudhindra on November 25, 6 pm at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram. Nalina Mohan will be on violin, M R Sainath on mridangam and G Omkar on ghatam.

‘Cadence’

The Harmony International Music Foundation is presenting ‘Cadence’, an evening of nostalgic Christmas music by the ‘Harmony Children’s Choir’, conducted by Sandra Oberoi, on December 9, 5 pm at Jyoti Nivas College Auditorium, Koramangala. ‘Ruhaniyat’

Banyan Tree’s annual sufi and mystic music festival Ruhaniyat will be held on December 15 at Jayamahal Palace. Those will be performing include Tannouras, the Dancing Dervishes of Egypt; ‘Polyphony’, with an inbuilt ‘Voice of Angels’ by singers from Bulgaria, an instrumental ensemble of sufiana maqams by musicians of Egypt and Rajasthan; ‘Whirling Dervishes’ of Turkey, Sufi qawwali by qawwals from Pakistan.

The Indian forms to be featured this year are Bharud and Abhang of Tukaram, Dnyaneshwar, Jana Bai, Bahina Bai (Maharashtra), Sukhnani Ojhapalli (Assam), Kapalik Pandvani, a dramatic narration of mystic tales from Mahabharata (Chhattisgarh), Mystic ‘Ravanhatta Ensemble’ with songs from the Pabuji ki Par (Rajasthan), Haunting drums - Eddakya, Thimila, Chenda, Thavil, Mizhavu (Kerala), Sindhi Saraiki of Gujarat, Zikr-e- Rifay by Fakirs – Andhra Pradesh, Baul songs from West Bengal etc.

‘Harmonica Day’

November 22 is observed as the ‘Indian Harmonica Day’ and on this occasion, the Bangalore Harmonica Club, in association with Sonido Musicals, is holding a meet for all harmonica lovers. Guests and harmonica lovers can drop into Jaaga and play along the karaoke tracks on Bollywood classics on harmonica. The event will be held on November 22, 7 pm at Jaaga No 68, K H Double Road, opp­osite Corporation Bank, next to the K H Road Bus Stand. 

‘Bhavageethe’

Hiremagaluru Pradeep and Amrutha Raman will be rendering Bhavageethe at Sri Akhila Havyaka Maha Sabha, 101, 11th Cross, 8th Main, Malleswaram on November 25, 4.45 pm. On the occasion of ‘Karthik Music Festival 2012’, and 14th anniversary of Vamshi Academy of Music Trust — a two-day programme will held on November 24 and 25.   

Hindustani recital

The Department of Kannada and Culture, in association with Ananya, is presenting a Hindustani vocal recital by Parameshwara Hegde on November 23, 6.30 pm at Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram. Parameshwara will be accompanied by guru Charan Garud on tabla and Mahushudhan Bhat on harmonium. 

Varied tunes

M A Narasimhachar Music Foundation is celebrating its ‘11th Annual Music Festival’ from November 22 to 26 at Gayana Samaj Hall, K R Road.

On November 22, 6 pm T M Krishna will present a vocal concert and on November 23, Suchita will give a musical discourse in Tamil on Purandaradasa Charitram.

On November 24, Malladi Brothers will be presenting a vocal duet. Violin maestro
H K Venkatram will be awarded Gaana  Vaaridhi on November 25.

This will be followed by veena, venu and violin ensemble. On November 26, Manasi Prasad will present a thematic concert on ragamalikas. Entry to the concerts is free. For details, call 9844042502.

DANCE

‘Kala-Nadam’

Mohiniyattam

A mohiniyattam festival is being organised by Mudra till November 23 at the East Cultural Association, Indiranagar. On November 22, recitals will be presented by Gopika Varma at 7.15 pm and ‘Nair Sisters’ at  8 pm. On November 23, a mohiniyattam recital will be presented by Methil Devika at 7.15 pm and Sangeetha Iyer at 8 pm.

Spellbinding steps

Natyasaraswathi Kuchipudi Dance Academy, Sanjayanagar is presenting the 17th annual dance celebrations on December 9, 9 am at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram.

Kuchipudi dance and Spanish flamenco by Jana and Danielle, guest dancers from Europe, will be held on December 12, as a part of Prathibhasangama at ADA Rangamandira, 6 pm,J C Road.

‘Maha Maya’

On the occasion of Ragasree Sammelanotsava, a thematic dance feature Maha Maya, will be presented by Chithkala School of Dance on November 26, 6.15 pm at Seva Sadan, Malles­waram. It is choreographed by P Praveen Kumar.

Duet recital

A bharatanatyam duet recital by S R Hemalatha and Sneha Narayan will be held on November 23, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, Nrupathunga Road.  

‘Rangapravesha’

Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran are presenting the bharata­natyam rangapravesha of their daughter and disciple, Rasika Kiran, on December 1, 6.30 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall.

ART

Photo essay

Tasveer is presenting an exhibition titled ‘Sebastian Cortés: Pondicherry’ till November 30. ‘Pondicherry’ is an extended photo essay, which has as its main focus the photographer’s perception and visual interpretation of the city of Pondicherry. The exhibition timing is from 10 am to 6 pm (Monday to Sunday) and 12 pm to 7 pm (Sunday). The venue is Cinnamon, 11 Walton Road, off Lavelle Road.

‘Aagomon’

Palashpriya Ghosh is presenting an exhibition of her art works, Aagomon, till November 23 at Chitrakala Parishat. The exhibition will continue for a duration of seven days.

Aagomon is a collection of paintings on canvas and paper, rendered in acrylic and ink. This will be her introductory solo exhibition of the creations over the last five years including the most recent ones.

Group show

A group show will be held at Renaissance Gallerie till November 23.

Paintings by Akshita Jain, Laxmi Mysore and Pramila Tomar from Bangalore will be on display.

Solo works

Renaissance Gallerie is hosting a solo show from November 24 to 30.
Paintings by Amrita Paintal will be on display.

Christmas bazaar

The annual ‘United Charities Bazaar 2012’, a Christmas bazaar, will be held on December 1 at the Corporation playground, opposite St Charle’s School, Lingarajpuram Main Road.

For actors

Evam is organising ‘How Do Actors Move?’, an introduction to movement and physical theatre for actors based on the teachings of Jacques Lecoq, on November 23, 7 pm to 10 pm. The trainer is Rachel Griffiths and the venue is Alliance Francaise. This workshop will introduce participants to a new awareness of their body, movements and themselves. Cinema world

A celebration of Indian cinema, called ‘Project Cinema City’ is being held in the City. As part of this, book presentation, film screening and panel discussion will be held on November 22, 6.30 pm at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan. Entry is free. For details, call 2520­5305. A part of the project is on view till December 2, at the inter-disciplinary exhibition at NGMA, Palace Road.

‘Invoking Justice’

‘Invoking Justice’, a film, will be screened at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) on November 23, 6 pm. The film by Deepa Dhanraj tells the complex story of the inspired challenge posed by the women’s jamaat to a corrupt judicial system. This screening is open to all and will be followed by a discussion with the film-maker. The screening is part of a series of documentary screenings that will be held every alternate Friday. The venue is IIHS Campus, No. 197/36, 2nd Main Road, Sadashivnagar. Entry is free.

Book launch

British Library, in association with Toto Funds the Arts, is holding a reading-cum-launch of Randhir Khare’s latest novel ‘Walking through Fire’ and Athena Kashyap’s first volume of poetry ‘Crossing Black Waters’ on November 23, 6.30 pm. The venue is British Library, Prestige Takt, 23 Kasturba Road Cross. The writers will be in conversation with each other and the audience.

Randhir Khare is an award-winning writer, artist and teacher who has published more than 20 volumes of poetry, fiction, translations and non-fiction. Athena Kashyap is a young poet currently based in Bangalore. ‘Crossing Black Waters’ is her first published volume of poetry that was released in the US and India earlier this year. Talk on

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Infosys Foundation  will present Pravachana, a talk on Sri Rama by Haridas Nevani Ganesh Bhat, on November 22, 6 pm at The Indian Institute of World Culture, No. 6, B P Wadia Road, Basavanagudi.

On November 23, 6.15 pm, S M Shivappa, physiotherapist and astro-palmist will present a lecture at the same venue.
