The area around Doddabasavanagudi (Big Bull Temple) in
Basavanagudi is set to spring to life with the two-day groundnut fair,
popularly known as Kadlekai Parishe, which will begin on 10 Dec (Monday).
It
has been a tradition for groundnut growers from the then Guttahalli,
Dasarahalli, Hosakerehalli and nearby villages to offer groundnuts to
the bull god and sell them at the fair. The temple built by Magadi
Hundreds
of groundnut vendors from Magadi, Tumkur, Doddaballapur, Kolar, and
Coimbatore and Hosur in Tamil Nadu are arriving with loads of groundnuts
at the temple and pitching their tents nearby.
The
pavements on Bull Temple Road from Ramakrishna Math Circle to Gokhale
Institute of Public Affairs, Bugle Rock Road, Mount Joy Road, Karanji
Anjaneya Temple Road and a few adjacent roads are being occupied by
vendors selling items other than just groundnuts such as puffed rice,
colourful sugar candies, household articles, fancy articles and
decorative items.
Amusement gear for children with different equipments sourced from
Mangalore, Chennai and other places is being set up near the temple.
Although the fair is on Monday and Tuesday, the vendors will extend their business for a few more days.
Councillor
Katte Satyanarayana said: “Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has made
elaborate arrangements for the fair. As part of the fair, cultural
programmes including Sugam Sangeet and Yakshagana by renowned artistes
have been organised at the Bugle Rock Park and Narasimhaswamy Park in
(near Katriguppa Water Tank) Banashankari 2nd Block on both days.
