The ‘18th Annual Sankranti Music Festival’ will be held from January 14 to 17 to celebrate the 93rd birthday of Sangeeta Kalanidhi R K Srikantan at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram.
Carnatic classical
M A Narasimhachar Music Foundation is holding a Carnatic classical music vocal concert, as part of their monthly programme, on January 12, 5.30 pm at The Indian Institute of World Culture, Basavanagudi. In the programme, S Ramani will present a vocal concert. He will be accompanied on violin by R Achuth Rao and on mridangam by Akshay Anand.
Veena recital
Suswaralaya College of Music, along with Banashankari Fine Arts Society, will present a veena concert by Manjula Surendra, accompanied by S Ashok (mridangam) and N S Krishnaprasad (ghatam) on January 23, 6 pm at SNEA Bhavan, 13th Main, 20th Cross, Near Balamuri Ganapathi Temple and Allahabad Bank, Sahakarnagar.
‘Nirantharam’
Nirantharam, an annual music and dance festival, will be held till January 13 in the City. It will have a Carnatic vocal recital by S Shankar, and jugalbandhi by Jayaram K S on flute and Sanjeev Korti on sitar, on January 10, 5.30 pm at Seva Sadan Malleswaram.
There will be a Carnatic vocal recital by R A Ramamani, and a bharatanatyam presentation on January 11, 5.30 pm at Seva Sadan. A Carnatic vocal recital by P Ramaa, and Talavadya by Laya Taranga will be held on January 12, 5.30 pm at Gyana Samaja and a Carnatic vocal recital by Abhishek Raghuram on January 13, 6 pm, also at Gyana Samaja.
Jazz it up
A talk on ‘What on earth is that noise called Jazz?’ by Stanley Pinto will be held on January 11, 6.30 pm at The Bangalore International Centre, |

‘Qasbah’, an exhibition of large black and white photographs will be held at 1, Shanthiroad Gallery from January 19 to 23.
Special course
A special arts appreciation course will be held from January 10 to January 14 at Suchitra, B V Karanth Road, Banashankari. The course covers literature, music, dance, visual arts and cinema with the object to both understand and experience them from critical grounds. The course also aims to show the unity in diversity that these different forms seek to achieve. The course will be conducted by eminent experts from these domains.
Solo work
A solo show by Sachin Jaltare, titled ‘Tales Of Infinity’, will be on display at Kynkyny Art till January 11.
‘Raw Energy’
An exhibition of paintings, ‘Raw Energy’, by Prasanna Kumar will be on at The Savannah Sinclairs Hotel, Whitefield from January 18 to 31. This is being held in association with Franck Barthelemy. ‘Raw Energy’ is the latest body of works completed by Prasanna Kumar towards the end of 2012. These 20 works will take the viewers to a universe of abstraction in watercolour.
‘Urban Ballet’
A contemporary dance, ‘Urban Ballet’, will be held on January 27, 7.30 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. ‘Urban Ballet’ produces a skillful melange between classical music and hip-hop inspired movements. The result is a unique work of art, tinged with the myriad influences of its choreographer. Inspired by classical ballet, ‘Urban Ballet’, is composed of four acts that show four incarnations of the body. Each of the 10 dancers tries to express artistic singularity through a gesture that slowly frees itself from the usual hip-hop ‘delivery’ and evolves in a universe, borne by the standards of classical music repertoire.
‘Nritya...’
Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and National Gallery of Modern Art Bengaluru (NGMA) will be organising a Nritya Rasanubhavam by Janaki Rangarajan on January 12, 6 pm at National Gallery of Modern Art, 49, Manikyavelu Mansion, Palace Road.
‘Finding Ananda’
‘Finding Ananda’, a play, paying a tribute to Swami Vivekananda on the eve of his 150th birth anniversary, will be staged on January 11, 7 pm at Alliance Francaise. It is developed within the ‘History of Ideas’ programme. It will be a work-in-progress rehearsed reading. Admission is free.
‘Huttadalli Hutta’
Antaranga is staging TP Kailasam’s Huttadalli Hutta at Seva Sadan on January 12, at 7 pm. This play that has seen many full houses is set in the British period and has characters reeling out dialogues in ‘Kanglish’ (Kannada and English). The story which revolves around six characters — a father, son, two secretaries employed by them, a servant and a grandmother, is witty and humorous. For tickets, call 9880914509.
‘Male Mantrika’
Male Mantrika, a play, will be staged on January 11, 6.15 pm at Ravindra Kalakshethra.
Parody time
The Royal Sheikh’s Spear Company’s ‘The Compleat Wrks of Willm Shkspr (Abridged)’ will be staged on January 26 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The Royal Sheikh’s Spear Company is a three-man troupe of highly skilled, extensively trained actors, who have come together to present Shakespeare’s complete collection of works —37 plays and 154 sonnets — in 97 minutes! It is hilarious parody of all of Shakespeare’s plays in condensed, action-packed form, performed by only three actors with the help of tacky costumes and whacky props!
The script is written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield. The play holds the record for being the longest-running comedy on London’s West End. ‘Chapter Two’
‘Chapter Two’, one of Neil Simon’s finest comedies, will be staged at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield, next to Palm Meadows on January 12 (8 pm) and 13 (3 pm and 6.30 pm).
Presented by Jugaad Co, it is directed by Anna Thomas. The cast includes Jimmy Xavier, Noel Manasseh, Kalyani Kumar and Prarthana.
It is in fact an autobiographical peek into Neil Simon’s coming to terms with the death of his wife, which was followed by his love affair and subsequent marriage to actress Marsha
Mason.

‘Samskrutham’
A dance festival to celebrate Sansrkit, called Samskrutham, will be held from January 11 to 13, 6.30 pm at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Course Road. Classical dancers will pay rich tributes to Sanskrit at Samskrutham. In association with KENKO and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Samskrutham is conceptualised and presented by Usha R K.
The three-day dance festival, will showcase six dancing duos perform Sanskrit compositions. Performances will begin with the traditional invocatory dance item on a Sanskrit prayer, followed by dance pieces on timeless poetic compositions of Sanskrit literary greats.
On January 11, 6.30 pm, Rajendra Srinivasan and Anju Nair will perform. Sathyanarayana Raju and Shama Krishna will perform at 7.30 pm.
On January 12, 6.30 pm, Anil Iyer and Medha Dixit and Praveen Kumar and Soundarya Srivatsa will perform at 7.30 pm.
On January 13, 6.30 pm, Bishwa Bhushan Mohapatra and Madhulita Mohapatra will take the stage while Tushar Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt at 7.30 pm.
H S Venugopal (flautist), Shri G Gurumurthy (mridangist) and D S Srivatsa (vocalist) will be honoured for their commendable artistry and notable contributions.
Carnatic vocalist R K Padmanabha, kuchipudi exponent Veena Murthy Vijay and managing trustee of Ananya, R V Raghavendra will grace the programme.

Vishranthi, a home for senior citizens, will presents Ojas a performance by Nirupama and Rajendra at Chowdiah Hall on January 12, 6.30 pm.
The dance performance by the duo and their team will feature vintage and creative dance styles with Indian classical and world music.
This performance will raise funds for Mitr Vaani, a unique helpline launched recently by Vishranthi to assist elders living alone in the City. For tickets, call 9900584471.

The Kirans and ‘Rasika Dance Ensemble’ will present Aaradhana, a bharatanatyam performance, as part of Nirantharam, national music and dance festival on January 11, 6.30 pm at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross. Concept and choreography is by Kiran Subramanyam.

An exhibition Mera Gaon Mera Base, presented by FYI Inc, will be held on January 11 and 12, 10 am to 7 pm at Alliance Francaise. The exhibition is from a unique competition for engineering students across the country that compelled them into venturing into rural India and understanding the genesis of issues and challenges at the grass roots.
‘Kala Mela’
The Little World Drawing Club will showcase students’ art works titled Kala Mela at Ragothama Smaraka Bhavan, above Sanjaynagar Post Office, on January 12 and 13, from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm.
