Avarekai lovers and foodies can soon dig into delicious dishes
made of flat beans such as ‘Hidukida Bele Payasa’, ‘Mosaru Kodbale’,
‘Avarekai Sambhar’, ‘Masala Vada’, ‘Avarekai soanpapdi’ and ‘jamoons’
among others. More than 40 items made of the beans will be on display at
the ‘Avarekai Parishe’ from January 3 at V V Puram. The
event which will be open between 11 am and 10 pm
Unique features of the annual 11-day bean fest this year will be ‘Avarekai Paddu’ and ‘Baked Nippattu’, prepared by experts for the fitness-conscious, said K S Geetha Shivakumar, proprietor of Vasavi Condiments and Food Court, which will host the event.
More than 40 farmers from Magadi, Kanakpura and other places will take part.

After avarekai and kadlekai, it is now the turn of oranges to be featured in a mela. The department of horticulture is organising Orange Mela which will be held at Lalbagh from January 4 to 6.
The Horticulture Department, in association with National Horticulture Board, is organising a three-day Inter-State Orange Mela at Lalbagh Botanical Garden from Friday.
There will be 40 stalls for different varieties of oranges from Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Tamil nadu along with local varieties from Kodagu at the mela.
“Prices of fruits will range between Rs 45 and Rs 65 per kg. People should look at the quality of produce than comparing prices. Rare varieties of saffron and spices grown in Kashmir will also be sold at the mela,” said S V Hittalmani, additional director, Department of Horticulture (Fruits) .
