‘Guru Shishya...’
Bharatiya Saamagaana Sabha is holding its 4th annual music festival Guru Shishya Parampara from February 13 to 17 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall.
On February 13, Bhaskar Nath will present a shehnai recital at 5 pm.
A flute recital by Akash will be held at 6 pm and a vocal recital by Sikkil Gurucharan at 7.30 pm.
February 14 will see Prasanna Gudi presenting a Hindustani vocal recital at 5 pm and Sreeranjini Santanagopalan presenting a vocal recital at 6 pm. Carnatic vocalist T N S Krishnan will perform at 7.30 pm.
February 15 will have Maharajapuram Ganesh Viswanathan Srinivasan perform at 5 pm, Carnatic vocalist Ramakrishnan Murthy will perform at 6 pm and Carnatic vocalist Nisha Rajagopal perform at 7.30 pm.
Carnatic violinist Vittal Rangan will perform on February 16, 5 pm, Tanmayee Krishnamurthy at 6 pm and Sakethraman at 7.30 pm.
February 17 will see Saint Thyagaraja Pancharathna Krithis Veena ensemble, led by Balakrishna Doreswamy Iyengar, performing at 10 am. Vocals by the Kasaravalli sisters will start at 11.30 am. Pandit Jasraj will be presented Saamagaana Mathanga National Award at 5 pm. Omkar Havaldar will present a Hindustani classical recital at 6 pm and Carnatic vocalist Abhishek Raghuram will perform at 7. 30 pm.
Fireflies festival
The ‘Fireflies Spring Festival of Music’ will be held on February 10, from 12 noon to 10 pm at Fireflies Inter-cultural Centre, off Kanakapura Road.
The artistes performing are sufi and qawwali singers from Kutch, Mukhtiyar Ali, Floyd Fernandes, Sangeet Sadhana, Thalavattam, ‘Emam and Friends’, ‘Spinifex’ from Netherlands, Vedanth and Bindu and ‘Bahh Band’ from Ireland. Vocal competition
The Asawari Music Foundation, in collaboration with Majolly Music Trust, will present ‘The Outperformers’, a vocal competition (Western classical, music theatre, pop vocals) for youth of 12 to 16 years of age who are residents of India. Interested participants must have completed a vocal exam from ABRSM/TRINITY/LCM in 2011/2012 and will need to outperform this examination level. There will be a cash prize of Rs 10,000, trophy and a certificate awarded to the winner.A scholarship is also offered for a student for the duration of April 2013 to March 2014. An interview and audition is essential to be considered for the scholarship.

Bhakti Jugalbandhi, a concert by Smita Bellur and Manasi Prasad will be held on February 8, 6 pm at Purandara Mantapa, Sri Venkateshwara Temple premises, Nisarga Layout, near Koppa Gate, Bannerghatta Post.
‘Scratch Bandits...’
‘Scratch Bandits Crew’, an electronic music concert, as part of Unmaad, will be presented on February 10, 6.45 pm at the Indian Institute of Management. ‘Scratch Bandits Crew’ is another approach to scratch music played by Supa-Jay, Geoffresh and Syr, who love hip-hop.
They play with voices, be it soul, hip-hop, funk, and mix these to create surrealist collages that tell stories with holes.
Rhythm divine
Indiranagar Sangeetha Sabha is holding its annual music and dance festival from February 8 to 13 at Purandara Bhavan, HAL Second Stage, Indiranagar. The inauguration will be on February 8, 5 pm. Purandara Award will be conferred on violin maesto T N Krishnan. The musicians participating are Hyderabad Brothers, Sikkil Mala Chandrashekar and M S Sheela. The dancers performing are Alarmel Valli, Surupan Sen, Bijayani Satpathy. There will also be a performance by senior students of Sabha’s ‘School of Performing Arts’.
Odissi repertoire
An odissi repertoire will be performed by Devjani Sen and the senior students of ODC at Yavanika on February 15, 6.30 pm in collaboration with Indian Council For Cultural Relations. The programme will begin with a Mangalacharan, an invocatory piece, followed by pallavis and abhinayas from Jayadeva’s Geet Govindam. As it is Vasant Panchami on February 15, one of the abhinayas performed will be on Raga Vasan. The concluding piece will be Moksha or salvation.
Art
Tasveer is presenting ‘Magnum’s Vision Of India — The Last 50 Years’ from February 9 to March 1 from 10 am to 6 pm. The venue is Cinnamon, 1st Floor, 11 Walton Road, Off Lavelle Road.
Photo exhibition
My Mela, artistic impressions of the ‘Indo-German Urban Mela’, curated by Mallikarjun Katakol will be on display till February 7, 9.30 am to 6.30 pm (except Sunday) at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan. French feast
‘Bonjour India’, the colourful India-France cultural exchange, is being held in the City. As part of it, PVR Cinemas is holding a ‘French Film Festival’ by showcasing a series of French films at PVR, Koramangala, for movie aficionados. The multiplex will be running six French films (with English subtitles) from February 15 to 17. The films are Populaire, ‘In the House’, Zarafa, ‘Hand in Hand’, ‘The Dandelions’ and ‘Camille Rewinds’ etc.

The Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is offering a combined weekday evening and weekend German language courses from February 17 at their centre on Cunningham Road. These courses are designed according to the ‘Common European Framework of Reference for Languages’.
The courses are conducted in a learner-friendly ambience by highly qualified, trained teachers using the latest interactive teaching methods and state-of-the-art equipment. ‘Craft Santhe’
A special craft bazaar, called Craft Santhe, will on at Chitrakala Parishat till February 10. Over 100 artisans from all over the country will display their products.
There will be live demonstrations from master craftsmen. Some of the items on display are Tanjore paintings, cane and bamboo products, handcrafted saris, silk designer saris, dress materials, Madhubanipaintings etc. The timing is from 10 am to 8 pm.
Kannada classes
Kannada Prasaara Parishat will start its next batch of spoken Kannada classes and Kannada script read-write learning classes in separate batches. The ‘4th German Teachers Conference 2013’, with about 150 teachers of the German language from schools and universities of Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, will be held on February 9 and 10, 9 am to 5 pm at Goethe-Institut/ Max Mueller Bhavan. This annual event is a meeting point and platform for teachers to scale up learner-centred activities in the language classroom.
This year’s conference, titled ‘Speak out!’, offers workshops in phonetics, short films, interactive grammar and creative methods. International guest speakers and insiders from industry will demonstrate through their sessions, how to make German classes exciting and full of fun.
The conference will also offer a forum for exchange of ideas and experiences. All sessions will be in German. For details, call 25205305.

‘An Evening With Short Films’ will be held on February 8, 7 pm at the Alliance Française.
Fuelled by artistic expression and limited only by their runtime, short films transcend traditional storytelling. They are a significant and popular way artistes can connect with audiences.
