Raagavalli-3 : Raagamaalikaa-s are very attractive in Indian music and this has a greater appeal and variety in the lore of Karnaatic idiom. There are hundreds of raagamaalikaa-s in various languages. Hence a creative artiste has a greater challenge in composing really novel and refreshingly original measures. But creativity is such an amazingly meta-logical function that it never gets tired even after reaching soaring heights in variety and novelty. Firmly believing this home truth as expounded by the great aesthetician Anandavardhana,  a bunch of raagamaalikaa-s are composed in Kannada and Sanskrit. Here, the high quality of  maatu and dhaatu are strikingly felt by the rasika-s of saahitya and samgeetha at once and their undivided effect is also blissfully realized. Almost all  compositions carry the raagamudra-s and this is done in an effortlessly original manner. Most of the compositions, in spite of having their themes  from the mythology and religion, express themselves in beautiful poetic diction and thus pave a new avenue altogether. Some of the compositions are like a cluster of raaga-s that belong to one family either by name or by scale.  Thus we have  measures  like gaanagaNapati, grahabhEda-gatibhEda-raagamaalikaa, pancakalyaaNi, bandhurabhairavi, sumamdhyamaa, mahaabhaarata-raagamaalikaa, gamgaayugala, sakalasaakshi and the like. Here the rich music that creates an  aroma of strikingly different and  deceivingly similar raaga-s rendered at ease will be a  worth - listening treat to the true lovers of music.
