DRAMA

Humourous touch

Antharanga is staging Uttarabhoopa Bchi, a humorous play in a question and answer format, at KH Kalasoudha, near Maradi Subbaiah Choultry, Hanumanthanagar, on June 22, 7.30 pm. For bookings, call 9880914509.

‘Hidden in Plain Sight’, a solo theatre performance, will be staged at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield on June 22, 8 pm and June 23, 3 pm and 6.30 pm. It is performed by Mallika Prasad and written, directed and designed by Mallika Prasad and Ram Ganesh Kamatham.
Stand-up act

‘Comic No-Mads’ is presenting a stand-up comedy act on June 28, 29 and 30, 7 pm. The line-up includes Daniel, Rajneesh Kapoor and Sundeep Rao. On June 28, it will be staged at Opus (Palace Cross), on June 29 at Opus (By The Creek) and on June 30 at Barleyz (Koramangala).

‘Romeo and...’ 

‘Romeo and Juliet – No Strings Attached’, a comedy written and directed by Prashanth Nair, will be staged at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield on June 29, 8 pm and June 30, 3 pm and 6.30 pm.

Timeless tale

The Bangalore School of Speech and Drama (BSSD) is staging a production of the timeless classic ‘Alibaba and The Forty Thieves’, written by Stuart Arden, on June 21 and 22, 7 pm at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall.It is adapted and directed by Zulfia Sheikh. MUSIC

Sufi rock

‘An Evening of Sufi Rock’, featuring the celebrated Sufi singer Zila Khan, will be held on June 22, 7 pm, at DPS, Whitefield grounds. Daughter of the legendary sitar maestro, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Zila Khan has performed on the national and international stage with the likes of ‘Sting’ and ‘Bono’.

Duet treat 

A violin duet concert by Ranjani and Gayathri will be held on June 23, 5.30 pm pm at Bangalore Gayana Samaja, KR Road.

Contemporary jazz 

The ‘Sharik Hasan Quartet: The Cutting Edge of Contemporary Jazz’, a concert, will be presented on June 22 and 23, 8.30 pm at Windmills Craftworks, 331 Road, 5B EPIP Zone. Tickets are available on bookmy­show.com and at the venue.

Tribute

‘Power of As’ will pay tribute to the legends of Bollywood — Shammi Kapoor, Dev Anand and Rajesh Khanna — with their musical concert Sada Bahaar Sitare on June 23, 6 pm at Chowdaiah Hall. Songs will be performed by playback singer Mohammad Aslam and Hamid Khan. Singer Shabbir Kumar will also render a few songs.

‘Mind Map’

Percussion band, ‘Mind Map’, will perform at Sonido Musicals, opposite Catholic Club, Brigade Road on June 21, 6 pm.

Veena notes 

Keshav Samskrithi Sabha is organising a veena recital by RA Dakshina Murthy on June 22, 6 pm at Samskrithi Bhavan, No. 556, 11th Main Road, ISRO Layout. He will be accompanied by Nagaraj GS on the mridangam and Krishnaprasad NS on the ghatam.


Great platform

The Alliance Française de Bangalore will hold the 32nd edition of the ‘World Music Day’ on June 22 and 23. The Indo-French cultural centre will play host and serve as the main venue for this festival. The focus will be on the huge diversity of musical genres and styles. It will have free concerts for all ages and for all musical palates. All musicians and all musical formations, whatever the age or skill levels, can participate and share music from a common platform.

Blues time

‘Sarjapur Blue Bands’ will perform on June 21, 7 pm at Atta Galatta, 134, KHB Colony, 5th Block Koramangala. ‘Sarjapur Blue Bands’ is an underground, eclectic, workingman’s, original, rhy­thm and blues band consisting of Shekhar Seshadri, Saumitra Mukherjee and Vinoo Matthew. This is a free event.
Carnatic strains

A Carnatic vocal music concert is being organised on June 22, 6.30 pm at 140, 1st H Cross, Sri Sharada Samskruthika Sangha, Basaveshwaranagar. Harsha and Adarsha will be performing with their team of violinists and mridangam players.
For metalheads

Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is organising ‘Bangalore Open Air’ to select the ‘Best Indian Metal Band’ at the ‘Wacken Open Air Metal Battle’ on July 6 at Jayamahal Palace Hotel.

The winner, after heated preliminary rounds in several cities, will perform at ‘Jeff Hanneman Stage Bangalore Open Air’ in Bangalore.

DANCE

‘Shraddha...’

Shraddha Dance Centre is presenting Shraddha Nrityarnav 2013 on June 21, 6.15 pm at ADA Rangamandira, JC Road. Dance presentations by disciples of Guru Shama Krishna and the Tandava group will be held on the occasion.

Bharatanatyam 

A bharatanatyam dance recital by Suresh S Kaushik and Sowmya K Shridhar, disciples of P Praveen Kumar, will be held on June 23, 6.15 pm at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram.

Kathak

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will be presenting a kathak dance recital by Archana Kumar, under the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’, on June 21, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.
Myriad steps

As part of ‘Sri B V Narayana Reddy Memorial Endowment Programme’, a bharatanatyam recital will be presented by Sangeetha Ananthanarayan on June 21, 6 pm.

Celebrating cinema 
Alliance Française, in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Suchitra Film Society and The International Arts and Cultural Foundation, is presenting ‘Centenary of Indian Cinema – A programme of music and dance’ on June 21, 6.30 pm at Alliance Francaise. The programme will begin with a screening of song and dance sequences chosen from Indian films.

Dances from various regional films will then take centre stage to highlight the culture and ethos of this country. The International Arts and Cultural Foundation will also present dance performances which will feature dance schools such as Articulate, Chithkala School of Dance, Natyantharanga, Monisha Arts, Sanjali Centre for Odissi Dance and Vaishnavi Natyashala.

Yakshagana 

Yakshasinchana is celebrating its fourth anniversary celebrations on June 30, 3.30 pm at ADA Rangamandira. Two rare yakshagana prasangas — Tharmadhwaja Kalaga by Ratnapura Shree Rama and Bhishmotpatti will be presented. Shree Krishnayaji Idagunji, the chande artiste, will be honoured on the occasion.

Handicraft sale 

An exhibition of handicraft products titled, Sampoorn Santhe, will be held till June 23, 10 am to 8 pm, at Chitrakala Parishat. The exhibition will showcase products made by artisans from across the country such as Madhubani paintings, terracotta jewellery, handicrafts made from wood, hand-painted saris and wall-hangings.

Solo show

Sublime Art Gallery is presenting ‘Soulink-Celebrating Life’, a solo art exhibition by Swati Pasari, till June 29, 11 am to 6 pm, at Sublime Art Gallery, UB City. On display will be 26 artworks and five sculptures.

‘Black and...’ 

Magnitude Gallery is presenting an exhibition called ‘Black and White’ till June 30 at the Gallery, No. 140/13, 27th Cross, 3rd Block, Jayanagar. ‘Black and White’ is a collection that depicts faces, figures, imagination and abstract pieces.

‘Ennea’

An art show called ‘Ennea’ by Bhagya Ajaikumar will be on at Swasti Contemporary Gallery, HCG Towers, Sampangiramnagar from June 24 to July 12.

‘Rozhano’  

Rozhano Group is presenting an exhibition, Rozhano of sculptures, painting, illustration, photography and carpet designing from June 20 to 24, 11 am to 7 pm, at the atrium, Alliance Francaise.

The group of artists comprises Majid Barouei, Armin  Azarnewshe, Somaaye Keighobadi, Marjan Pirata, Masoume Zahedi, Fateme Taghavi and Mahdokht Safavi.  The aim is to introduce Iranian art and culture to people in the City.
