Cartoon time

The Indian Institute of Cartoonists is presenting Rama Baana, an exhibition of works by cartoonist R Krishnamurthy popularly known as Ramadhyani till August 10 at the Indian Cartoon Gallery, No. 1, Midford House, Midford, Garden, off MG Road, Trinity Circle.

‘Singing...’

Film festival


Moonlight Theatre & Eblitz Creations (I) Pvt Ltd is organising the first Indian Independent Film Festival (TIIFF) from August 15 to 17 at Freedom Park.

The festival will showcase the works of young and talented film-makers from across the world.

It will include full-length feature films, short films, documentaries, and award-winning feature films, besides a workshop on film-making and scripting. There will be over 50 films from India, Pakistan, UK, Australia, Greece, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago by independent film-makers. A seminar on ‘Locating Indian Independent Cinema in the context of World Cinema’ will be conducted by Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, Vidyarthy Chatterjee, and Joshy Joseph. Talk

DRAMA

Artistic expression
Flinntheater and Samudra are presenting, ‘C sharp C blunt’ directed Sophia Stepf from Berlin on August 17, 7.30 pm and August 18, 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara. ‘Mangalam’

Theatre Club is presenting a dramatised enactment of Poile Sengupta’s play Mangalam on August 10, 6.30 pm. The venue is Rangoli Metro Boulevard auditorium, Anil Kumble Circle, MG Road. The play revolves around issues of rape and sexual violence. The cast includes Anuradha Rao, Jyoti Makhija, Kumar Iyengar, Udai Matthan, Ashish D’Abreo, Rebecca Spurgeon, Lekha Naidu and Rahul Ayyar. The play is produced and directed by Abhijit Sengupta and Poile Sengupta. Entry is free.

Urban family

A Kannada play titled, Nimitta, directed by SN Sethuram, will be staged on August 9, 7.30 pm at Ravindra Kalakshetra, JC Road.

It’s a story about an urban family and the challenges it faces, particularly the women of the household. The cast includes B Jayashri, Sihi Kahi Chandru, Vidya Venkatram, Sethuram SN, Shwetha, Deepa and Nithish S.

Refreshing approach

Bhoomija is presenting a concert by Aruna Sairam on August 9, 8 pm at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield and August 11, 7 pm at Brigade MLR Convention Centre, JP Nagar.
  
Aruna Sairam will be accompanied by Raghavendra Rao on the violin, J Vaidyanathan on the mridangam and Giridhar Udupa on the ghatam.

Rare concert


Ananya is presenting ‘Haridasarolirisu – Series 2’ by vocalist TS Satyavathi on August 11, 6 pm at Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram. She will be
accompanied by Sindhu Suchetan on the violin, Cheluvaraju on the mridangam and N Gurumurthy on the ghatam.

Tribute

Rotary International District 3190 is organising a RD Burman evening, on August 18, 5.30 pm at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium (Central College Campus). The concert that is a tribute to maverick composer RD Burman, will feature original RD Burman musician Kishore Sodha, who will lead the orchestra with Srinivas Achar and troupe. Legendary radio anchor Ameen Sayani of ‘Binaca Geetmala’ fame will present interesting information about the composer. The proceeds of this event will go towards paediatric heart surgeries. ‘Vaibhava’

Nadasurabhi is presenting the second ‘Karnataka Vaibhava Festival of Music - 2013’ from August 16 to 18 at Indian Heritage Academy Hall, 20th Main, near Koramangala Police Station, 6th Block, Koramangala.

The inaugural concert of the Karnataka Vaibhava series will be by mridangam artiste HS Sudhindra on August 16, 6 pm. Sudhindra will be accompanied by Ashwin Anand on the veena, A Radhesh on the mridangam and Dayananda Mohite on the ghatam. The concert on August 17, 6 pm will feature vocalist Amrutha Venkatesh.

She will be accompanied by BK Raghu on the violin and Tumkur Ravishankar on the mridangam. The programme will conclude on August 18, 6 pm with a Ganakala Bhushana featuring a vocal concert by RK Padmanabha who will be accompanied by CN Chandrasekhar on the violin, Cheluvaraju on the mridangam and ASN Swamy on the khanjira.

Different beats

Cosmos Group is presenting ‘Cosmos Desi Beats’, a musical evening of Kannada and Hindi film songs, on August 9, 6 pm at JSS auditorium, 8th Block, Jayanagar. The concert will feature performances by Praveen D Rao, Pallavi Arun, Arun Kumar and Pramath Kiran.

Inspiring tunes

BFlat is presenting a concert by Suraj Mani and The Tattva Trippers on August 10, 8.30 pm at BFlat, Indiranagar. Vocalist Suraj Mani will be accompanied by Alwyn Fernandes on the guitar, Prakash KN on the bass, Aman Mahajan on the keyboard and Willy Demoz on the drums. Suraj is an award-winning songwriter.

MES Kalavedi is presenting Sri PS Nagarajan Endowment Programme on August 17, 6.30 pm at New Conference Hall MES College, Vidyasagara Prof MPL Sastry Road, 15th Cross, Malleswaram.

The performing musicians are  Revathi Sadasivam on the veena, V Krishnaon the mridangam and Sukanya Ramgopal on the ghatam.

Ranjani Fine Arts is presenting a concert by vocalist K Gayatri on August 10, 4 pm at Sobha Lakeview Clubhouse, off Outer Ring Road, Bellandur. Gayatri will be accompanied by Charulatha Ramanujam on the violin and KU Jayachandra Rao on the mridangam.

Bharatanatyam

There will be a bharatanatyam duet by Shwetha K Purohit and Sindhu K Purohit on August 9, 6 pm on the occasion of NKA Iyer Memorial Endowment Programme. The venue is The Indian Institute of World Culture, No. 6, BP Wadia Road, Basavanagudi.

Sai Arts International is presenting the bharatanatyam arangetram of R Ashitha on August 9, 6.30 pm at Seva Sadan auditorium, Malleswaram. She is a student of Suparna Venkatesh.                     


‘Varsha Utsav’


Adyasha Odissi Dance Ensemble is presenting Varsha Utsav, a classical dance and music festival on August 16 and 17, 5.15 pm at Seva Sadan auditorium, 14th Cross Malleswaram.

The performing artistes are Sujata Mohapatra, Ramahari Das, Dhaneswar Swain, Bichitrananda Swain, Veena Murthy Vijay, Satyanarayan Raju and Hari Chethna.

Twin delight

Two sisters Bhoomija and Supraja, both disciples of Rukmini Dev Arundale, will be presenting their arangetram on August 11, 6 pm at JSS Mahavidyapeetha in Jayanagar.

It will be a jugalbandi, where the sisters will be presenting their performance in Pandanallur style.

Best pieces


Artist Milind Nayak is showcasing some of his best works till August 16. The venue is The Studio, 26/2, between 1st and 2nd Cross, D’Costa Layout, Cooke Town. The timings are 11 am to 6 pm (Monday to Saturday) and 2 pm to 6 pm (Sundays).

‘Alae’

HCG Foundation is organising a contemporary art show Alae from August 13 till September 30, 10 am to 6 pm at Swasti Contemporary Art Gallery. From drawings and paintings to graphics, the show will have interesting art works on display. Participating artists are JMS Mani from Bangalore, Sunitha Varma from Rajpur, Jayaraj from Chennai and Ravindra Salve from Delhi just to mention a few.

‘Plot’

‘Plot’, an exhibition by Sreshta Rit Premnath, will be on display at Galleryske, Berlie Street, Langford Town, till August 24.

‘Looking In’, an exhibition of sculpture by Lalitha Shankar, is on view till August 17, 10.30 am to 6 pm at Gallery Sumukha.

Abstract images

Kynkyny Art is presenting ‘Many Worlds’, featuring the mixed-media murals of Basuki Dasgupta at Kynkyny Art till August 14. A master of contemporary folk art, the Tumkur-based artist turns grand, weighty themes like folklore and mythology into abstract, quirky, almost minimalist images.

‘Homelands...’

‘Homelands - A 21st Century Story of Home, Away, And All the Places in Between’, a contemporary art exhibition by Suki Dhanda will be held till August 14 at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Palace Road. It is curated by Latika Gupta.

Varied hues


Gallery-g is presenting Chennai Maadri 2, a month-long show by well-known artists from Chennai till August 31, 11 am to 7 pm at Gallery-g, Lavelle Road. The show is a collection of art from first time and well-known artists from Chennai. A few artists who will be displaying their work include V Vinoth, Govindarajan, G Raman, Village Mookkaiya, Muniswamy, Arunagiri and M Raja.
