ART

‘Chennai Maadri 2’

Gallery-g is presenting Chennai Maadri 2, a show by artists from Chennai, till August 31, 11 am to 7 pm at Gallery-g, Lavelle Road. The artists whose works will be displayed include V Vinoth, Govindarajan, G Raman, Village Mookkaiya, Muniswamy, Arunagiri and M Raja.

‘Rural Panorama’


Magnitude Gallery is presenting an exhibition of paintings called ‘Rural Panorama’ till August 31. It wil have a series of original paintings capturing the simplicity, tranquility and joy of rural India. The gallery is located at 140/13, 27th Cross, 13th Main, 3rd Block, Jayanagar.

‘Analog Power’

A photography workshop called ‘Analog Power’ by Santanu Chakraborty will be held at NGMA, Palace Road on August 18, 10 am to 6 pm.

‘Looking In’

‘Looking In’, an exhibition of sculpture by Lalitha Shankar, is on view till August 17, 10.30 am to 6 pm at Gallery Sumukha.

On the occasion of ‘World Photography Day’, photographer Sudhir Shetty is organising a unique photo exhibition, Bengaloorina Ban (K­an) Gaaligalu on August 18 and 19 at Chaya Hall, Namma Metro Station, MG Road. Veteran cinematographer VK Murthy will inaugurate the event. Poet Dr KS Nisar Ah­amed and Kannada actor Shivaram will be present on the occasion.

Choral delight

The ‘Bangalore School of Music Choir’, under the direction of Victor Thomas Abraham, is presenting ‘Autumn Muse’, a choral extravaganza on August 18, 7 pm at Alliance Francaise. Donation cards are available at the Bangalore School of Music and Alliance Francaise Cafe.

Tribute

Rotary International District 3190 is organising ‘RD Burman Evening’, on August 18, 5.30 pm at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Central College Campus. The concert, that is a tribute to maverick composer RD Burman, will feature original RD Burman musician Kishore Sodha, who will lead the orchestra with Srinivas Achar and troupe. Nadasurabhi is presenting the second ‘Karnataka Vaibhava Festival of Music 2013’ from August 16 to 18 at Indian Heritage Academy Hall, 20th Main

Lovely ensemble

MES Kalavedi is presenting ‘Sri PS Nagarajan Endowment Programme’ on August 17, 6.30 pm at New Conference Hall MES College, Vidyasagara Prof MPL Sastry Road, 15th Cross, Malleswaram. The musicians performing are Revathi Sadasivam on the veena, V Krishna on the mridangam and Sukanya Ramgopal on the ghatam.

Vocal strains

Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira is presenting a grand vocal concert by Vidushi Amrutha Venkatesh on August 25, 5.30 pm at Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira Concert Hall. She will be accompanied on violin by Vidwan MR Gopinath and on mridangam by Vidwan SJ Arjun Ganesh.

‘Varsha Utsav’

Adyasha Odissi Dance Ensemble is presenting Varsha Utsav, a classical dance and music festival, on August 16 and 17, 5.15 pm at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, Malle­swaram. The performing artistes are Sujata Mohapatra, Ramahari Das, Dhaneswar Swain, Bichitrananda Swain, Veena Murthy Vijay, Satyanarayan Raju and Hari Chethna.

‘The Alternative...’

Sophia High School is all set to stage the musical ‘The Alternative Snow White’, a humourous take on the legendary fairy tale ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ on August 16, 17 and 18 at the Sophia School Auditorium. This musical extravaganza is being directed by Ashley Williams. This is an improved production with choreography by V Ganesh. To offer support to this team are the former students helping with the choreography, costumes, choir, sets and make-up. Set in 19th century England, the musical has a humourous script, gentle melodies and graceful dances. For tickets, call 22266825.

Photo exhibition

As part of its participation in ‘Voices from the Waters’, the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is collaborating with City-based water researcher and writer S Vishwanath and documentary photographer Vivek Muthuramalingam who will curate a photo exhibition at the Goethe gallery. The theme this year is Namma Ooru - Namma Neeru and will focus on the symbiotic relationship between lakes and open wells in and around Bangalore. The deadline for applications is August 16. The exhibition opens on August 30.

Films galore


Moonlight Theatre and Eblitz Creations Pvt Ltd are organising the ‘Indian Independent Film Festival’ (TIIFF) from August 15 to 17 at Freedom Park. The festival will showcase the works of young and talented film-makers from across the world. It will include full-length feature films, short films, documentaries, and award-winning feature films, besides a workshop on film-making and scripting. There will be over 50 films from India, Pakistan, UK, Australia, Greece, Brazil and Trinidad and Tobago by independent film-makers. A seminar on ‘Locating Indian Independent Cinema in the context of World Cinema’ will be conducted by Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, Vidyarthy Chatterjee and Joshy Joseph. For details, call 9880552000.
