Film fest
Suchitra Film Society, in collaboration with Gothenburg University – School Film Directing, Goethe Institute-Max Muller Bhavan, Alliance Francaise and Polish Minister of Culture, are holding the ‘4th Suchitra Short Film Festival’ for emerging film-makers.
Entries are due by September 15. The festival will take place from September 20 to 22 in Bangalore. More than 15 countries will be participating.

Workshop
The British Council, in association with First Light (UK) and Skills Factory, is presenting ‘Lights, Camera Workshop’, a two-day workshop on film-making for students (ages 13 to 18) at the British Library, 23, Prestige Takt, Kasturba Road Cross on September 14 and 15, 1 pm to 7 pm. Shortlisted participants will be informed by September 14. The activity is part of British Council’s film education programme for schools in India. The workshop will be led by Daniel Smith of First Light, UK. First Light works with a diverse group of young people on film
projects.
‘My Beautiful...’
‘My Beautiful Bump 2013’, a movement to cherish every pregnant woman and young mother, will be held on September 22, 11 am to 4.30 pm, at MLR Convention Centre, JP Nagar. The event features a fashion show and beauty pageant around the theme ‘Air, Water, Fire’; panel discussion with doctors and specialists around ‘Conception, Natural Birth and Breast feeding’ and games.

‘Aadadella Olithe...?’
Kriyative Theatre is presenting the Kannada play Aadadella Olithe...? at KH Kalasoudha on September 14, 7 pm. This play is a unique attempt to present a very Indian situation in not-so-Indian English. Scripted and translated by Sundar and Laxmi Chandrashekar, who also play the lead, Aadadella Olithe...? is directed by Pramod Shiggaon.
‘Hot Chocolate...’
‘Hot Chocolate for the Mind’, starring Azeem Banatwalla and Dwayne Perkins and produced by Ajit Saldanha, will be staged on September 12 at CounterCulture, Mahadevpura, Whitefield. On September 13, it will be held at The Humming Tree, 12th Main, Indiranagar and on September 14, it will be staged at Sheraton Bangalore Hotel, Brigade Gateway, Rajajinagar. The show starts at 8 pm and the duration of the play is 90 minutes. A riotous evening of stand-up comedy, it stars Mumbai’s Azeem Banatwalla doing the opening act for Dwayne Perkins, who has wowed audiences on Jay Leno and Conan O‘Brien shows. Conceptualised and produced by comedy promoter, Ajit Saldanha, the show is topical and hilarious.

Tribute
As part of the ‘100 Pipers Tribute Tour’, the Canadian band ‘Elevation’ will pay a tribute to U2 on September 13, 8 pm at Catholic Club. ‘Elevation’ is the most successful U2 tribute band in the world. This will be its first time in India as a band on tour.
Harmonica festival
‘Bangalore Harmonica Festival 2013’, a day event dedicated to the ‘Father of Indian Harmonica’, the late Milon Gupta, will be held on September 15, 10 am at the Jain College Auditorium, Jayanagar 9th Block. Organised by Sonido Musicals, in association with Bangalore Harmonica Lovers, the festival aims to create awareness about harmonica. It is a day-long event that includes several activities, be it presentation on early history and development of mouth organ in India, short workshop on types of harmonica and routine maintenance, narration on the versatility of the instrument and special performances by Hamsanada, the children’s choir from Ravi Shankar Vidya Mandir, Vidyaranyapura; Carnatic classical recital by Saitejas Chandrashekhar, western (blues) harmonica recital by ‘BY 2 Blues’ and performances by club members.
‘Rasaanubhava’
Rasaanubhava, a thematic Carnatic concert, will be presented on September 15, 10 am to 5 pm, at the Jain Auditorium, Jain College, JC Road as part of the state-level music conference by Meera Centre for Music Therapy, Education and Research Centre. ‘The Outperformers’
The Asawari Music Foundation, in collaboration with the Majolly Music Trust, will present ‘The Outperformers’ in October at the Alliance Francaise.
The closing date for this competition is September 30. This is a vocal competition (western classical/music theatre/pop vocals) for youth from 12-21 years of age who are residents of India.
Interested participants must have completed a vocal exam from ABRSM/TRINITY/LCM in 2012/2013 and will need to outperform this examination level.

‘Kambala’
Kambala, an exhibition of photographs by Sudha Basavaraj, will be on view from September 15 to 21, from 10.30 am to 6 pm, at Gallery Sumukha.
‘Alae’
HCG Foundation is organising a contemporary art show called ‘Alae’ till September 30, from 10 am to 6 pm, at Swasti Contemporary Art Gallery. From drawings and paintings to graphics, the show will have interesting art works on display. The participating artists include JMS Mani from Bangalore, Sunitha Varma from Rajpur, Jayaraj from Chennai and Ravindra Salve from Delhi.
Solo show
A solo show of paintings by Manjiri Joshi will be on display till September 14, from 11 am to 7 pm, at Renaissance Gallerie. Manjiri dabbles in encaustic art, which is an ancient Greek technique of painting done with beeswax.

Exciting mix
The ‘6th Bangalore International Arts Festival 2013’, a potpourri of music, dance, theatre and folk dance, will be held from September 20 to October 6 across eight venues. On September 20, 5.30 pm at NGMA, Manikyavelu Mansion, 49, Palace Road, a contemporary dance called ‘Three Lines’ by Preeti Sunderajan; Seraikella Chhau dance by Pandit Gopal Prasad Dubey; and folk dance by a Sri Lankan troupe will be held. On September 22, 6.30 pm at Freedom Park, Sheshadri Road, folk dance and music by a Sri Lankan troupe and Karnataka folk artistes will be held.
On September 27 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Impulse, a season of the UK contemporary dance, will present ‘Tear Drops On Dust’ at 6 pm. It is supported by British Council. Kathak and flamenco fusion by Ronnie and Mithul and artistes from the UK will also be performing. Another highlight of the day is the Sambhalpuri dance coordinated by Madhulitha Mohapatra. ‘Nitya Nritya’
Nupura is organising Nitya Nritya, a national conference and festival of dance, on September 14, 15 and 16. The conference in the mornings will be held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Lecture demonstrations on various topics of interest will be featured, like ‘Bala’s Legacy’ by Nandini Ramani on September 14.
The seminar on September 15 will discuss ‘Aspirations of a Male Dancer’. Poornima Ashok will present bharatanatyam on September 14 (12 noon) at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Sanjay Shantaram will present kuchipudi on September 15 (12 noon) at the same venue.
