DANCE

Young talent

There will be a bharatanatyam solo recital by P Rachana on October 10, 6.30 pm at Shri Mahaganapati Temple, 9th Cross, East Park Road, Malleswaram. This programme is on the occasion of 15th Anniversary of Shri Banashankari Amma and Sharannavratri Utsav.

Fine footwork


The Indian Council for Cultural Relations, in Collaboration with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, is presenting a bharatanatyam recital by Aranyani Bhargav, an empanelled artiste of the ICCR on October 12 at 6.30 pm at Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Course Road.

Radhika Ramanujan is presenting a bharatanatyam recital on October 12, 6 pm at Dhaatu, 3944/F, 17th D Cross, 4th Main, Banashankari 2nd Stage. This recital is a part of Dhaatu Navaraatra Mahotsava 2013 put together by Anumpama Hoskere.

Kathakali

Well-known kathakali dancer Sasikala will present a kathakali performance on the theme Narakasura Vadham Kathakali on October 12, 6 pm at East Culture Association, Indiranagar.

‘Purushasukta’

MES Kalavedi is presenting an enactment of the Cosmic Hymn, Purushasukta on October 19, 7 pm at MES Kishore Kendra Auditorium, Brahmi, 10th Main, 15th Cross, Malleswaram. It is directed by Joseph John and choreographed by Vasudev and Charan CS. This is held as a part of Dr Rangachar
Endowment Programme.

Matching steps
There will be a bharatanatyam recital of Reshma S, disciple of Padmini Ramachandran on October 11, 5.30 pm at Kasturi Rangamandira, No. 310, 2nd, A Main, TC Palya Road, Hoysala Nagar.

DRAMA

Three acts

The International Theatre Festival, ‘Going Solo’, will be held from October 11 to 13 at various venues across the City. One of the plays will be held on October 11 and 13 at MLR Whitefield and another play will be staged on October 12 at MLR in JP Nagar.

‘Out of Sight’


The Comedy Store is presenting ‘Out of Sight’ by Sundeep Rao on October 12, 8 pm at Bflat, Indiranagar. Sundeep Rao brings his comic foresight, which is rather clear and sharp around the edges. A regular on the Indian comedy circuit, this Bangalore based comedian performs across the country.
 
‘Vachana’ 

There will be a reading of Vachana, a set of Girish Karnad’s plays at Rangoli, MG Metro Station by Arundhati Nag, Arundhati Raja and Surendranath on October 12, 5.30 pm. It is open to all.

MUSIC

Classical melodies

The ICCR, Swiss Consulate General and The Bangalore School of Music are presenting a concert by Winterthurer Symphoniker (WiSy) with the Cecilian Choir and the BSM Chamber Orchestra on October 11, 7.30 pm at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall. WiSy is a philharmonic orchestra based in Winterthur, Switzerland. The ensemble is dedicated to promoting and performing orchestral works and chamber music at a high artistic level. The Cecilian Choir will perform Schubert’s Nachtlied and Haydn’s Der Sturm with the orchestra. For details, call 41285017.

Endowment programme

The Indian Institute of World Culture is presenting a Carnatic classical vocal music concert by Dr (Mrs) T Seetharamalakshmi on October 11, 6 pm. She will be accompanied by T Suryaprabha on the violin, Nagendra on the mridangam and Bhargava Alambi on the kanjira. The venue is No. 6, BP Wadia Road Basavanagudi.                      

Instrumental evening

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations is presenting a Carnatic music instrumental concert by MN Girish from Melkote on October 11, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road. This is being held as a part of the Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme.

Veena recital

Ranjani Fine Arts is presenting a special veena concert by Bagyalakshmi Chandrasekharan on October 12, 5 pm at Sobha Lakeview Club, off Outer Ring Road, Bellandur. Bagyalakshmi will be accompanied by C Cheluvaraju on the mridangam and N Gurumurthy on the ghatam.

Heavy metal

Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is presenting a concert series of Indian Heavy Metal at Wacken Open Air Vol. II on October 12, 7 pm at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Indiranagar. As part of this series Zygnema, the thrash metal hit from Mumbai and the second in a series featuring Indian Metal Bands, will perform live at Wacken Open Air. Zygnema features vocalist Jimmy Bhore who will be accompanied by Sidharth Kadadi on the guitar, Leon Quadros on the bass and Mayank Sharma on the drums. The Indian Institute of Cartroonists is organising an exhibition of political cartoons and caricatures titled, ‘The Politickle Pickle’ by Shreyas Navare from October 12 to 26 at Indian Cartoon Gallery, No. 1, Midford House, Midford Garden, off M G Road, Trinity Circle. 

Latest trends


The ‘Jewels of India’ will be held from October 18 to 21 at Koramangala Indoor Stadium. The exhibition will feature over 80 jewellers from across India. Popular actress Suman Ranganath is the brand ambassador for the 15th edition. This edition will feature the latest designs and trends in jewellery.

‘Illusion on...’


A magic show by Françoise and Renaud Swetschin of the Aristobulle Company will be held on October 10, 7 pm at Alliance Francaise.

‘Illusion on Black Top’ will show an ordinary couple transforming everyday life into crazy, funny or magical moments involving audience and making child’s play of themselves.

ART


‘Melange’

Sublime Galleria will host Melange — a group art exhibition by 18 established and emerging artists — till October 10. The artists are Bheemaraya Devikeri, Mahesh Pattar, Ruchika Motwani, Shibu Arakkal, Triveni Vinod, Konda Srinivasa Rao, Vivek Rao, Dnyati Wagh, Neena Vaishampayan, Swati Pasari, Elena-Renee Pereira, Sonu Mulchandani, Milind Nayak, Sujata Sah Sejekan, SA Vimalanathan, Pragya Jain, Usha Shantharam and Bhavana. The timing is 11 am to 8 pm.

‘5 Elements’

An exhibition called ‘5 Elements’ will be held at Alliance Francaise from October 11 to 13, from 11 am to 7 pm. It will bring together five unique artists — Dinakaran Kaliappan, Spoorthy Murali, Megha Vishwanath, Varsha Raju and Saagar Tulshan under one roof.

Vivid display

Galerie Sara Arakkal is presenting its ‘10th Annual Show’ at its store at 156, 4th Main, BEML Layout, ITPL Road till October 15. Works of 45 artists are being presented.

Exhibition


A group exhibition called ‘Laya — Rhythms of Nature and Dance’ will be held a Gallery IV, Chitrakala Parishat, Kumarkrupa Road till October 10. The gallery is open from 10 am to 7 pm.

‘Metamorph​osed’


An exhibition of evocative mixed-media installations titled ‘Metamorph​osed’ by Sharwari Tilloo is on at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat from October 12 to 20. This series will depict some of these analogous transformations.

The installations bravely plunge into the hot discomfort of real-world and hard-hitting issues related to the Indian woman including dowry deaths and the rise in the occurrence of rapes.

‘Samarpan’


Samarpan, an art show on Mahatma Gandhi, will be held till October 11 at KalaRasa Art Gallery, Jayanagar. The artists whose works will be displayed are Manju Hassan, Naveen Kumar A, Pradeep Kumar, Ramagiri Police Patil, Ramesh Terdal, Shekhar Ballari, Kanthraj, Sheelvanth, Jagadish Kadur, Gururaj Alagond, Chintamani GG, Layertape, Aishwaryan, Lokesh BH, Anshuman Majumdar and Raghu S.
