Ananya cordially invites you to Meera- Andal - a Lecture-Demonstration
by Smt. Laxmi Sreeram, Chennai.
One lived in the 8th century, the other in the 16th. One was brought up by a priest, the other married to a prince. One sang in chaste high flown Tamil with literary devices from the hoary Sangam literature at her disposal. The other sang songs in an earthy Rajasthani. Both were besotted with a divine lover - Krishna.
As much as Andal and Meera seem to be alike, they are very different voices. Weaving songs of these two passionate women with short bits of narrative, Lakshmi Sreeram seeks to offer a glimpse of their love and pain. The songs will be rendered in the idioms of carnatic and hindustani music.
