ISKCON Heritage Fest 2014

Heritage Fest is an entertaining and enlightening cultural carnival of contests celebrating India’s vibrant culture and traditions. The objective of this program is to bridge the cultural divide in this era of tech-frenzy, increasing juvenile delinquency and stressed lifestyle of kids. It provides an exclusive opportunity to the students to discover the creative and innovative talents within, by participating in a host of 21 cultural contests like Classical Dance, Coloring, Gita Sloka Chanting, Vedic Quiz, Vocal Music etc categorized in 6 main streams. This contest is open to all school-going children in Bangalore.

Streams & Contests

There are six streams of competitions and in each stream there are multiple contests.

• Dance: Classical Dance
• Decoration: Altar Decoration, Cookery, Pushpalankara, Rangoli
• Drawing: Coloring, Handwriting, Painting, Pencil Shading 
• Literary Arts: Creative Writing, Essay Writing, Story Telling, Vedic Quiz, Rhymes
• Music: Gita Sloka Chanting, Vocal Music, Music Concert
• Theater: Dumb Charades, Mono Acting, Puranic Costumes

Heritage Fest 2014

We are conducting the Heritage Fest 2014 at ISKCON Bangalore, for students of LKG to Class X. 

In ISKCON Bangalore the events are conducted from July 14 to 27, 2014. Download for Heritage Fest 2014 Schedule

The results will be announced in this website. Phone calls, e-mails or personal visits to ISKCON to know the results are not entertained. The Grand Finale will be conducted in ISKCON Temple on July 25, 26 and 27, 2014. The prize distribution ceremony will be conducted in ISKCON on August 21, 2014. Parents and teachers can participate in this grand ceremony. Some of the winners will also get an opportunity to exhibit their performance.

Bangalore's most popular tourist destination, Lalbagh, is often thought of as a large boring park, which it may seem. Walk with us to discover the treasure that is Lalbagh, as we take you through the sand, stone and waters of Lalbagh, our Tipu Sultan's pleasure paradise!
Commissioned by Hyder Ali and completed by Tipu Sultan, Lalbagh was the ruler's personal garden, a statement of power and extravagance. Around one of Kempe Gowda's towers, Lalbagh has since acquired a large range of horticultural samples, a beautiful glass house and India's first lawn-clock. Today, it is not just a botanical garden but is also one of the few green spaces left in the increasingly polluted 'garden city'.
Join us as we step into pockets of silence and bloom right within the corporate jungle that is Bangalore. Listen to stories from the past, myths associated with the park and personal anecdotes that help understand Lalbagh better.

BUNGALOW WALK

 

Mi casa su casa: Visits to Bangalore's century old Bungalows

 

Since the capture of Bangalore from the unwavering clutches of Tipu Sultan, several British families have made Bangalore their home. The flourishing cantonment north of the beautiful Cubbon Park was almost British in its making: wide roads lined by trees, locally brewed foreign alcohol, the early entry of cars and the Bungalows they were parked in. With wide garden space around the house, built in typical British grandeur, tall roofs to allow air to come in, the now slowly disappearing old Bungalows of the city tell the tales of the needs, preferences and culture of the time.

Soaking in the old world charm of Richards Town, catch a breath of fresh air and some snippets of local history in the verdant Richards Park. Also to see are a few pretty yesteryear villas and local churches in the idyllic settings of aPaulogy, a unique gallery that takes viewers back to Bangalore of the 70s.

Festival Fun workshop

Ever After announces holiday workshop this October.
This time, kids will have fun through fascinating myths from world religions, talk about various cultures and their practices and understand the significance of festivals. Tons of interesting and engaging activities will accompany the stories.
Also a special dolls display (Golu/Gombe Habba) children will put-together, this is a quaint little practice followed in South India during Navratri/Dussehra and children enjoy doing this!

Cultural summer camp @Rajarajeshwari Nagar

Dhaatu: Tattva Katha - 1‏

For several years now, parents who come to Dhaatu whether it is for the summer children’s workshop or for the Navaratra celebrations, always ask, “Do you have any class for adults?”

In response to this need, we have put together a one day workshop series. It is called ‘tattva-katha’. In this format we use the story from one of the epics and unravel the many concepts and lessons of life that are embedded in it. This way, the value systems are introduced through the example of life and living of epic characters.

We have also included clay modelling as part of the class in order to introduce an element of hands-on art for the registrants. At Dhaatu, art is an integral part of any learning process. We begin with the 1st of a series of classes on the epic of the Ramayana.

Inclusions:
1. Handouts on some principles that are taught in the class.
2. Handouts including important verses and translations.
3. Clay and base boards for clay modelling. The clay models are a take home for the registrants.
4. Includes coffee and lunch.
Fee: Rs. 1000/- per person. Participation Certificate will be issued.

Heritage Festivals 2013

Team Heritage invites you to the Heritage Festivals 2013.

2013 will begin with the Heritage Festival  GUDIYA SAMBHARMA. .the Bengaluru Temple Festival  from January 19th to the 3rd of March.  Srishti Sambhrama ..the Earth Mother Festival from February 17th to 21st.

The 19th of January will be the first day of  GUDIYA SAMBHARMA...the Bengaluru Temple Festival. It will take place on both 19th and 20th in Malleswaram in the Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy Temple.

We are indeed fortunate that Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswathi of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, Parama Pujya Shrimat Sadyojat Shankarashram Swamiji  the Mathadhipathi of Chitrapur Math from Shirali, Sri Govinda Karajol, Honourable Minister for Kannada & Culture, Dr Ashwathnarayan MLA of Malleswaram and Sri B G Nanda Kumar I.A.S, Commissioner for Hindu Dharma Dhathi Illake will all be present on the 19th of January at 5.45 pm.

The Mellattur Bhagavatha Mela group headed by Sri Natarajan will perform "Prahalada Charitram."  On the 20th at the same venue  Trichur Brothers from Chennai will sing Carnatic Vocal followed by a Bharatanatyam recital by Rukmini Vijayakumar.

The Cathedral Walk

Benson Town, Cox Town, Fraser Town - East Bangalore has been home to the English settlements that revolved around the Bangalore Cantonment. The nucleus of these towns have been the many Cathedrals, Basilicas, ancient Chapels and Churches known for their varied architectural styles, elaborate carvings, colonial facades and domes.
Join us on a Cathedral Walk along the St John’s Church road as we take a tour through centuries old Cathedrals, admire the architecture and peek into pieces of Cantonment history that are engraved in their precincts. The walk is jointly led by Pushpa Achanta, a long time Benson Town resident and an Independent writer and me.

Need to know: The walks aims to be informative, informal and is presented with a local flavour. It takes 2 to 2.5 hours leisurely stroll with stories and anecdotes and tries to accommodate adults of all ages. For certain walks, where visiting temples, are involved, there would be occasions where one has to remove footwear. Its winter in Bangalore and though its sunny by nine, the early morning weather can be cold. So please dress accordingly and.. Please register only if you are sure to attend. Registering for a walk is taken as confirmation of participation.
