The annual cake exhibition is all set to enchant Bangaloreans with some truely wonderful creations.

 A majestic charminar 18 feet tall and 22 feet in length and breadth is set to leave the visitors with awe. Sculpted with 5 tons of sugar, several kilograms of cream and hundreds of eggs, it is a creation that has evolved with 40 bakers working for over 60 days..

A die hard fan of Sachin Tendulkar, the 74 year old master Baker C Ramachandran has paid special tributes to the master by creating his life size idol, all in cake and cream. The grace and stature of the idol would rival the one made with wax at Madam Tussaud’s in London.

Mathematics of Planet Earth (MPE) 2013 Exhibition

The MPE exhibition is part of the international initiative Mathematics of Planet Earth (www.mpe2013.org). It is organized jointly by the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS) and Center for Applicable Mathematics (CAM) of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). The exhibition is based on the four major themes: Structures, Networks, Optimization, and Waves. 

It will be held at the Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum in Bangalore, India.
November 22 -December 1 , 10am- 6:00pm


There will be more than 30 different exhibits, like a tensegrity stool and collapsible structure, a 3d Escher sculpture, an exhibit on networks in the human body (blood / neurons), surface waves, waves on a string, fractal maps,an ecosystem model or a walk the function interactive game!

During the exhibition, there will be various outreach activities for school students and teachers like open quiz sessions and hands on astronomy based activities.The Comet ISON is a large sun-grazing comet whose perihelion will occur on November 29, 2013 exactly during the exhibition dates. A Comet ISON poster exhibition will be presented together with mathematics workshops, demonstration of mathematical models, puzzles etc.

15th All India Urdu Book Fair

The nine-day 15^th All India Urdu Book Fair, organised by the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) in association with the Karnataka Urdu Academy, opened at Chota Maidan, Shivajinagar on Saturday Sep 14, 2013.

The famed event, earlier held in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Srinagar, etc., is being held in the IT Capital of India for the first time.

Minister for Wakf, Haj and Minority Welfare, Qamar-ul-Islam, will formally inaugurate the book fair at 11.30 am on September 15. R. Roshan Baig, MLA, Shivajinagar, and Mohamed Ubaidulla Sharief, President, Dargah  Committee, Ajmer, will be the guests of honour.

The book fair promises to be a treat for connoisseurs of Urdu literature and culture as nearly 75 publishers from across the country, including state Urdu academies, will take part in it and offer their publications for sale on discount.

In a first for the fair, the Bangalore edition features works of calligraphy. The Hyderabad-based Urdu daily, Siasat, has put up four stalls, displaying canvas paintings, works of modern art and calligraphy on wooden items.

Among the participants is the National Institute of Open Schooling, Noida. It will exhibit information on welfare measures for the minorities.

The event will also feature the following cultural programmes:
