Special Attractions of the Show

At Glass House.
A Floral tribute to Gustav Hermann Krumbiegel.
On the 150th birth centenary celebrations of G.H Krumbiegel, floral designs with attractive flowers and different varieties, grown in pots an designs with attractive flowers of different varieties, grown in pots and arranged over 120 x 410 sq.ft area at the centre of Glasshouse, will captivate the visitors. A statue of Krumbiegel is placed close to the entrance of Lalbagh and the surroundings of the statue is decked with rare flowers in a captivating way. Lily, anthurium, Orchids, Calla Lily, and rare leaf plants are used.


Floral Replica of Krumbiegel’s House.
A Floral replica of the house of Krumbiegel, located in Lohmen (Near Dresden), Germany, where he spent his childhood, is created. The structure measures 30x25ft width and 25ft height. The house is being decked with over 2,60,000 flowers consisting of Petunia, Dianthus, Begonia, Geranium, Calanchu, Chrysanthemum. etc.,

Flower Trees.
Four flower trees each measuring 17ft height is on display with more than 300 poincettia flowers in different colours are used.
 Floral Heart.
Three flora hearts measuring 13,14 and 15 feet height is created using 50,000 pot grown petunia flowers.
Floral Domes.
Floral Domes of different sizes, decorated with more than 5,000 flowers comprising Petunia, Begonia, Orchids, Dianthus etc.,

Vehicle entry and parking
Public vehicles are not allowed inside lalbagh during the show
Only school buses and vehicles are allowed through Double Road Gate and can be parked at parking area near Dr.M.H.Marigowda Memorial Hall

Visitors can park vehicles at multi storey car park located at Shantinagar Bus Stand Complex.
Visitors coming from J.C.road can park vehicles at the BBMP Multi-storey car park located in J.C Road.
Parking facility for two wheelers has been arranged at ‘Al-Ameen’ college grounds located between Lalbagh Main Gate and double Road Entrance.

Vehicles can also be parked at HOPCOMPS premises near double road gate.

This year, you don’t have to get caught in the rush at the entry gates when you head to Lalbagh for the 201st Republic Day Flower Show from January 17 to 26.

For the first time, you can book entry tickets online (www.lalbaghflowershow.in). “Those who buy the tickets online will receive an SMS alert and the receipt via email,” an official said.

The entry tickets cost Rs. 40 (adults), Rs. 10 (children), Rs. 50 (adults) on holidays. Entry is free for schoolchildren on January 24 and 26.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the flower show on January 17.

This year’s Glass House attraction is a replica of the Red Fort (50ft length and 28ft height) made from three lakh Dutch roses. In honour of U.S. President Barack Obama’s visit to New Delhi, the Statue of Liberty will be recreated using a variety of flowers.

The total expenditure for this year’s show, which would use over 200 varieties of flowers and 20,000 pots for decoration, was Rs. 1.3 crore, said S.P. Shadakshariswamy, Director of Horticulture.

The Department of Horticulture and the Mysore Horticultural Society expect a footfall of over five lakh and a profit of Rs. 48 lakh.

Vehicles will not be allowed inside Lalbagh. Parking arrangements will be made at Shantinagar Bus Station and BBMP’s multi-storeyed parking area. Security arrangements at Lalbagh include a drone camera, metal detectors, hidden cameras and 40 CCTV cameras.

Lalbagh Independence Day Flower Show 2014

The Grand Lalbagh Independence Day Flower Show 2014 to be conducted from 8th August till 15th August 2014 by the Department of Horticulture and the Mysore Horticulture Society.

This Independence day flower show is going to be much bigger and grandeur as this is also the 200th Flower show of the garden. More than 20,000 flower plants belonging to several flora are getting ready to provide visual feast to the visitors.

For every flower show Lalbagh comes up with a unique theme, and for this grand occasion Mysore Palace or Shivapura’s Satyagraha Soudha is going to be the theme of the flower show. A decision regarding the same will be taken by the officials soon.

To mark the 200th flower show, 200 several rare pictures of the earlier flower shows and garden will also be displayed during the event. More than a million footfalls are expected for this flower show and the parking facilities and security measures are getting taken accordingly.

Lalbagh Flower Show: Jan 2014

The 199th flower show at the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, which begins on Friday (17 Jan 2014), is expected to enthrall visitors with fruits and vegetables in the form of floral art. 

Huge floral structures of pineapple, mango, banana, coconut, cashew apple and guava — and those of carrot and onion — would come up at the historical Glass House during the ten-day show.

The event, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the department of Horticulture, is being organised under the aegis of Mysore Horticultural Society.

The main attraction will be a vertical garden to be created by the department exclusively for the show. This apart, the Glass House will host different varieties of flowers for decorative purpose as well as for display.

In all, 220 species of flowers and vegetables will be on display during the show. The flowers include Zerbaras, Coranatio, Anthurium, Bromiliares, Petunia, Coxcomb, Seleucia, Helichrysum, etc.

Other attractions at the show will be mushrooms designed in flower. The department has also come up with a logo: an 18-foot tall and six-foot wide floral pillar made of various kinds of flowers, Maheshwar added.

Various companies will take part in the show, displaying floral pots they have grown. The participants have been categorised into government departments, public sector undertakings, private homes and defence sectors.


Replicas of flowersReplicas of the world’s largest flower, Rafflesia arnoldii, and the insectivorous plant, Pitcher, will also be on display at the glass house. Maheshwar said the department intended to provide information about these rare and unusual flowers. Rafflesia arnoldii grows to a diameter of about one meter (three ft) and weighs up to 11 kg (24 lb).

It lives as a parasite on the Tetrastigma vine which grows only in primary (undisturbed) rainforests. On the other hand, the Pitcher plant thrives on insects and smaller mammals.

Demos

Dwindling trees, rising buildings and a burgeoning population may have resulted in Bangalore’s heritage as Garden city, taking a beating. But the Horticulture Department, is making an effort to ensure that gardens continue to grow, despite the space constraints.

Demonstrations of rooftop and terrace gardening will be made by a private company. The Department of Horticulture will also be demonstrating rooftop and terrace gardening of organic fruits and vegetables.

Parking curbsNo vehicles will be allowed inside the Lalbagh. Visitors from the Double Road entrance should park vehicles at the multi-storey parking lot at Shanthinagar and those from the JC Road entrance should park vehicles at BBMP’s multi-storey parking lot on JC Road. Vehicles ferrying schoolchildren can be parked near the parking lot near the tower stone.

Entry fee for children under 12 will be Rs 10 on normal days as well as on holidays. Adults will be charged Rs 40 on normal days and Rs 50 on holidays.

Lalbagh Flower Show : August 2013

Annual Independence Day flower show begins on Aug 7; to conclude on Aug 15

• Exhibitions spreads across the garden. Main attractions are placed inside the Glass House.
• A vertical, 17-feet-high garden with more than 5,000 plants is one of the highlights.
• A 13-feet-long floral boat full of roses is yet another attraction. For all the nine days, this will use up 2 lakh roses.
• 439 participants in Bonsai, Ikebana, Indian floral art and vegetable carving competitions
• Free entry for students on August 13 and August 15 between 8 am and 5 pm
• No parking for vehicles inside Lalbagh. School vehicles are allowed.

Lalbagh Flower Show: Jan 2013

The annual Republic Day flower show, organised by the Department of Horticulture and Mysore Horticultural Society, will open to the public on January 18 and will go on till January 28.

 The main attraction at this year’s show will be a 35-foot high floral replica of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Meant as a floral tribute to Gustave Eiffel, who erected the Eiffel Tower in 1889, the replica will be decorated with more than 2.5 lakh roses and more than 10,000 orchids. It will occupy pride of place at the Glass House.

 A six-foot tall flower statute of Swami Vivekananda will be set up on a five-foot tall rock pedestal. Quotations of Swami Vivekananda will be prominently displayed around the statue. Besides the two floral structures, other attractions would be a range of flowers from different parts of the country, floral pot display in eco-friendly three-tiered bamboo baskets, floral anthurium barbie and 500 attractive bonsai plants at Bonsai Park.

The gardening competition will witness teams from the Raj Bhavan, various ministers’ official residences, public sector undertakings, the Indian Institute of Management and gardens on defence properties competing with private sector entities such as Leela Palace, Taj West End, Infosys and Wipro. The organisers have so far received 772 competition entries. 

Noted botanical firms such as Florens Flora, Fruit Land and Eden Lora (Bonsai Collections) are also participating. 

While the main show will be inaugurated on January 18, the Ikebana, Indian Floral Art, vegetable carving and Bonsai exhibition will be inaugurated on January 19. Winners of various competitions will be felicitated by Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath on January 24. The same day has been specially earmarked for school students who have free entry to the exhibition. 

Entry fee is Rs.40 for adults and Rs.10 for children.

Entry to the visitors from KH Road (Double Road) and exit from South gate towards Jayanagar. Parking is available at the beginning of Double Road and also near the exit. Due to security reasons all vehicles and visitors are screened. Visitors are requested not to carry eatable and handbags to the park.

Lalbagh Flower Show : Jan 2012

The Bi-annual Lalbagh Flower Show happens every Republic Day and Independence Day.

A visual treat to the eyes, this show is celebrating its 100th year. The exhibition showcases Indian floral art, Ikebana, vegetable carving, Dutch art, Thai art, dry flowers, Janur Arrangement and Bonsai. This year the theme is world peace and unification and the floral installation of Buddha Sharira Stupa is one of the major attraction. The other added attraction will be a floral peacock inside the Glass House.

Parking Information:
• Four wheelers, two wheelers and bicycles should enter through Double Road entrance (Gate 2) and parked at KG Tower near the parking area.
• All four wheeled light vehicles must enter through South Gate (Siddapura Gate 3) and should be parked at the nearest place.
• Buses and lorries won't be allowed inside LalBagh. They can be parked at Hopcoms and KH Road.

Entry Fee:
• A visitor has to pay no fee on January 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 27 and 28 and Rs 40 on January 22, 26 and 29. The entry fee for children below 12 years is Rs 10 on all days during the exhibition.
• The entry fee for a car with one person is Rs 50, and Rs 80 for two persons, Rs 110 for three persons, Rs140 for four persons, Rs170 for five persons, 200 for six persons, Rs 260 for eight persons and Rs 380 for a Tempo Traveller.
• The tickets will be sold at Lalbagh Main Gate, Double Road Gate, Siddapura Gate and Basavanagudi Gate.

Lalbagh Flower Show

The Independence Day horticultural show, a visual treat for Bangaloreans, will be held from August 5 to 15 at Lalbagh Botanical Garden.

The Horticulture Department which will be commemorating the 100th year of the heritage show has decided to showcase the replica of ‘Lotus Temple’ of Delhi and the ‘Konark Wheel’ of Orissa.


Parking Information:

Four wheelers, two wheelers and bicycles should enter through Double Road entrance (Gate 2) and parked at KG Tower near the parking area.

All four wheeled light vehicles must enter through South Gate (Siddapura Gate 3) and should be parked at the nearest place.

Buses and lorries won't be allowed inside LalBagh. They can be parked at Hopcoms and KH Road.

Lal Bagh Flower Show 2011

It’s that time of the year when Bangaloreans are treated to hundreds of different varieties of flowers at the Flower Show at Lal Bagh. This year, the horticulture department has spent close to 50 lakh on putting the show together. The model of the Metro coach — 33-feet long and 5.5-feet high — will be decorated with over 50,000 flowers like orchird, anthoriums, carnations, heliconia, lillium, brasssia fignatia. About 268 varieties of annual flowers will also be displayed.

The flower show is sure a visual treat !
