The Republic Ride

The republic ride is first in the series of monthly rides organized by DVK Biking to promote biking brotherhood. Each ride will be longer than the previous one ultimately culminating in a Grand Tour. Come and join the brotherhood! This is the best thing that can happen to a biker!

25th January, 2014 (Saturday)

6:00 PM to 7:00 PM : Session on Motorcyle Touring Basics followed by tea and snacks.DVK Biking’s expert rider Vijay would take you through the basics of long distance touring. You thought you know how to ride? You’ll be surprised!

26th January, 2014 (Sunday)

8:00 AM : Start the ride from DVK Biking. It is putting into practice what you have learnt in the basics.

9:40 AM : Reach Nandi Hills and explore the curvy roads! Capture nature at its best while having fun with like minded bikers.

11:00 AM : Reach Gold Finch Retreat for a sumptuous 4 Star buffet lunch with live counters which will leave you licking your fingers.

Followed by ATV 3 Lap Practice Race. Now this is real fun. Every rider will be timed on his laps and the fastest rider wins some goodies! You can also indulge in swimming and other indoor/outdoor activities.

4:00 PM : Refreshing Tea & Snacks

4:30 PM : Start riding towards city

6:15 PM : Reach back city. Mission accomplished! Feel elated!

Ride for a Cause : Saving forests & wildlife

Bangalore Rd350 Club is riding for spreading the message of saving forests and saving wildlife. Yamaha Riders Club - India will be joining this noble ride along with another 15+ biking clubs sharing the same thoughts of conservation.

It will be a short ride within the city premises ending at Bannerghatta zoo. Every rider is expected to contribute  whatever amount s/he is comfortable with financially which will be used to contribute to one of the many tasks that the zoo works on.

Basic Requirements
============

- All bikes are welcome. Please tank up before the ride.
- All documents like Insurance, Smart Card and Driving License in place
- Basic riding gear which at least includes a helmet, proper shoes, full pant and a jacket. Armored Jacket, Gloves and Knee guard is encouraged.
- Pillions, if any, will also have to stick to the basic riding gear requirements. Armored Jacket, Gloves and Knee guard is recommended.

Those who are without adequate riding gear will be advised to continue with their own ride.

NOTE : NO RASH RIDING WILL BE TOLERATED. We are here to ride together and not race together. People interested in racing are requested to skip this one. We will definitely ride respecting the rider around us. This is an independent event not "owned" by anyone. We do not take responsibility of any uncalled for incidents during the tenure of the event.

Wild South India Ride

The south Indian sub continent is home to more than 500 species of mammals, 1225 different varieties of Birds, 1600 types of reptiles and amphibians and about 57,000 species of insects. India harbours about 60% of the World's Tiger population out of which around 25 percent is covered by south India and the rest by the whole of India.

South India has a picturesque landscape and is a photographer's and wildlife enthusiast’s paradise. Some of the amazing wildlife seen in the sanctuaries, parks and the forests are the protected leopards and the Tigers, antelopes , deer, bison and a large Elephant population. Numerous varieties of birds can be seen in these forests, prominent among them the Serpent Eagle, the Malabar Trogon and the pied hornbill.

We have tie-ups with prominent places of stay at the wildlife sanctuaries, and local arrangements for forest safaris. We would be taking our Motorcycle tourists to each destination, and then they can ride with the forest guards in their vehicles, or take guided treks, taking in the varied wildlife of each forest. "Tiger Luck" to all of them!

Given the number of wildlife sanctuaries, successive Wild South India Rides would offer very different experiences to people. Out first offering of this series of rides is as follows:

Skandagiri- a walk on clouds!!

Skandagiri, also known as Kalavara Durga, is an ancient mountain fortress located approximately 70 km from Bangalore city.The peak is at an altitude of about 1350 meters.

This is a moderately difficult trek as the hill is precipitous and high. The trek starts from the Papagni Temple at the foot of the hill. The fortress is in full sight throughout the trek uphill. This steep and fantastic trek through a maze of dense shrub is highly intriguing. Skandagiri is a teaser. Just as you reach the fort wall content that you have topped the hill, you see another ring of fort. There are six such series of stonewalls protecting an abandoned ancient temple on the hilltop. The trek is approximately 8 km and takes around 1.5 – 3 hours to climb.

We're going to the mountains this June to tour the Manali to Leh stretch. The route is famed for its stunning variety of landscapes and traverses the passes of Rohtang, Baralacha La, Nakee La, Lachung La, Tanglang La and Khardung La.

Two weeks of cycling, 600 Kms across the mountains. Join us, for the ride of a lifetime.

The trip in brief:

• 13 days of cycling the Himalayas.
• The tour starts from Manali and ends in Leh. (Khardung La climb included)
• A total distance of 600Kms covering the altitudes of up to 17,500ft.
• Food and stay will be taken care of by us during the course of the trip.
• The trip will be led by an experienced tour guide.
• 7-8 days stay will be in tents and rooms in 2-3 sharing basis.
• Toilet tents will be provided.
• Cycles can be rented at additional cost.

For safety, there will be two back up vehicles along with a WFR (wilderness first responder).

Indian Railways through photographs

 

The South Western Railway is organising a seven-day photography exhibition from June 25 to July 1 at the Government Museum and Venkatappa Art Gallery, Kasturba Road, Bangalore, to commemorate 160 years of Indian Railways. The exhibition will portray the evolution of Indian Railways, with focus on the first 100 years of its existence. It will be inaugurated by Ashok Kumar Mital, General Manager, South Western Railway.

The photo exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry is free.

Fraser Town Parichay: Walk

The Cathedral Walk

The Malleswaram walk

Venue: Entrance, Kadu Malleswara Temple, Temple road, Malleswaram Bangalore's erstwhile suburb.

Now a thriving residential and commercial area, evokes a strong feeling of nostalgia among people who lived there and an equal measure of curiosity by those who want to see the 'other part of the city'. So who 'founded' Malleswaram and when did it come into existence? What was Malleswaram like a 100 years ago? Who were the people who lived there? Is it really very South Indian in its nature? Come to where it all started, the Kadu Malleswara temple premises and listen to a fantastic story that wends its way through time; from centuries past to the present, to discover the answers to these questions.
Join us on a unique walk, as we take you around this 'North Extension' of Bangalore.

Need to know: The walks aims to be informative, informal and is presented with a local flavour. It takes 2 to 2.5 hours leisurely stroll with stories and anecdotes and tries to accommodate adults of all ages. For certain walks, where visiting temples, are involved, there would be occasions where one has to remove footwear. Its winter in Bangalore and though its sunny by nine, the early morning weather can be cold. So please dress accordingly and.. Please register only if you are sure to attend. Registering for a walk is taken as confirmation of participation.

Trekathon 2012

Trekathon 2012 has been organized by 3 organizations namely “The Sharavathi Nature Trails, Vanamitra and GAIA”. These organizations are working on conservation and also organize nature activities like trekking and camping.

The event will be flagged off on oct 20th by well known sports persons. Trekathon program is organized for 3 days on 20-21-22nd October 2012. The event will see passionate trekkers from all over country participating.

Trekathon Trail:-
The trek will be flagged off at Jog falls and end in Bhatkal. Trail will pass through picturistic Sharavathi Valley and end in Bhatkal coast. Trail will include a water falls called BASAVANA BAAYI water falls. Trekkers will also have time to play in the sea shore. Night halts will be in tents in a designated place. 

Format of TREKATHON:-
There will be fixed 50 teams of trekkers in which one team comprises 3 trekkers.
Age group of the trekkers is 18 and above.
Individual trekkers can form their own group and register or if individuals registers we will help them to find team mates.
Teams have to trek for about 25KM per day and rest for the day at designated halting place.
The check in time of each team will be noted down at the end of the day when they reach halting place.
All 3 members of a team should reach the check-in counter together to get time counted.
Cumulative time of all 3 days check-in time will be considered to declare the winning teams.

Departure from Bangalore in a hired bus by 9 PM.

Date:-3-11-2012
Reach Jogfalls, fresh up and Have breakfast.
Flag off ceremony at jog falls.
Trek to basavana baayi and have lunch.
Continue the trek and reach Haduvalli night camp.
Have camp fire time and dinner.Retire for the day

Date:-4-11-2012
Wake up,freshen up, have breakfast and start off the trek.
Reach the end point and have lunch.
Relax for a while and travel by bus to murudeshwar beach
Play various water sports activities like Water Scooter, banana boat ride, Power boat ride, etc
Play till evening and have tea
Start back to bangalore.
In the mid way have dinner.
