Lovers of classical art in the city are in for a treat
in the first week of 2013 as Sangeetha Sambhrama, a music and dance
institute, presents Nirantharam, a national festival of music and dance
from 6th to 13th January.
Sponsored by Canara Bank,
the eight-day festival will feature Bharatnayam and Kuchupudi dance
performances, Carnatic vocal and Veena concerts, and a Kannada play,
‘Rabdi’, said a release by Sangeetha Sambhrama.
The
festival kicks off at 9:30 a.m. on January 6 with an inaugural
Bharatnatyam performance by B. R. Vibha. Rabdi, by theatre troupe Ranga
Vartula, will be staged at 11:00 a.m. The play revolves around the
struggles of a woman who became a surrogate mother in order to make
enough money to enrol her mentally retarded child in a special school.
Programmes are scheduled from 5:30 p.m. onwards for the remaining days
of the festival.
